WASHINGTON The nation's first baby boomer applied for Social Security benefits today, signaling the start of an expected avalanche of applications from the post World War II war generation.
Kathleen Casey-Kirschling, a former teacher from New Jersey, applied for benefits over the Internet at an event attended by Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue. Casey-Kirschling, who now lives in Maryland, was born one second after midnight on Jan. 1, 1946, making her the first baby boomer a generation of nearly 80 million born from 1946 to 1964, Astrue said.
Casey-Kirschling will be eligible for benefits after she turns 62 next year.
An estimated 10,000 people a day will become eligible for Social Security benefits over the next two decades, Astrue said.
The Social Security trust fund, if left alone, is projected to go broke in 2041, though Astrue said he hopes Congress will address the issue, perhaps after the 2008 presidential election.
So, the answer is simple. Your generation must breed faster in order to support me in my old age. So, get to it.

Nixon and Reagan, too.
Thank goodness for those born after 1964, they will have to pay the 1000% increases in FICA taxes to pay for all these beneficiaries becaue Washington as failed to create the necesary reforms.

Broken homes, "Blended Families", 40 years of 'progressive tax codes', The end of pension plans, AIDS, Woodstock, dope-smoking 8th graders, the Clinton Dynasty, Code Pink....
Pretty impressive....
Yes. Americans accept things that were unthinkable a mere 20 years ago. Slow cooking the frog. By the time congress tries to pull this maneuver, the media propaganda will have convinced the majority of Americans that taxing Roth IRAs is our only alternative .........
to save our children and our planet
Nope, but we voted them into office.
Don't forget: The Reagan dynasty, computers/the internet, man on the moon, living longer, healthier, to say nothing of...you.... The argument is pointless and non-productive. Start breeding so I can live better, dammit.
One this is for sure after reading your post. There is no way Reagan gave you TB or herpes. No way.
computers/the internet--I'll give you that: largely a baby boomer thing
man on the moon--WWII Gen and Silent Gen working for NASA. The actual Space Monkeys were Boomers (who didn't dodge the draft).
living longer--true, don't trust anyone under 40. healthier--not so much...
to say nothing of...you--Nope, Daddy was Korea Vet. Mommy was boomer, left us to 'find herself'. The argument is pointless and non-productive. Start breeding so I can live better, dammit.
Got a kid and a stepkid who alllll of the Boomer presidential candidates are perversely interested in. Besides, married people live longer how about get to work on that end....
Of course not, but remember what I was hearing in 1983 in Middle School with all the dope smoking 8th graders--that Reagan caused AIDs and other diseases and was going to end the world with nukes....
That is why I applied online. Never talked to a live person and received by first payment(I did direct deposit) on time. Best not to have to talk to those disinterested bureaucrats. I still to this day have never talked to anyone at SS.
The inheritance the Boomers received from their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents and onward has been squandered.
I’m not spoiled but you’re definitely an ass. You seem to have a twisted view this only comes down to money. It includes money- our bankrupted country- but it is also about the loss of tradition, the loss of family, and the loss of any moral sense.
As you seem to be so fixated on the money understand this: I owe nothing to my deadbeat father but I will be supporting my mother in her old age. Both of them are in the leading edge of the Boomer generation and neither of them have made any provision for retirement until the last few years. They have nothing of real value but their homes which they will probably have to pull all the equity out of to support themselves. There is nothing there to inherit and I’ve never expected any. My mother cared for me my first 18 years, I’ll give her a more open ended commitment on her last years.

Gee, how's the therapy helping with your 'my daddy didn't love me' issues?
gooble-gobble...
gooble-gobble...
Nope. Worked Reagan's campaign myself. Also Nixon. Boomer elected him. Not your generation, not the previous. It was us.
"an on the moon--WWII Gen and Silent Gen working for NASA. The actual Space Monkeys were Boomers (who didn't dodge the draft)."
Nah. My dad's a boomer. He worked on it.
"Nope, Daddy was Korea Vet. Mommy was boomer, left us to 'find herself'"
1. He didn't have you, she did. 2. Did she ever find herself?
married people live longer "
Some days it begs the question....why?
