Likely explaining the President's reported desires to see the Iranian IRGC and/or Quds Force designated a terrorist group, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this morning that any strikes against Iran require Congressional approval.
"We don't believe that any authorities that the president has would give him the ability to go in without an act of Congress," Pelosi told ABC's "This Week" program.
"Any president, if we are attacked, if our country is attacked has — even under the War Powers Act — very strong powers to go after that country. But short of that, he must come to the Congress," said the top Democrat in the House of Representatives.
Pelosi said Bush had not requested any congressional authority to take military action in Iran, despite growing U.S. concern over Iran's nuclear ambitions and its support for militant groups in Lebanon and Gaza.
Perhaps, considering the not unpredictable contempt for General Petraeus displayed by some members of Congress, President Bush harbors doubts that any congressional decision would be made in the best interest of national security or force protection for the troops in Iraq, still targeted and killed by Iranian-made and supplied weapons and Iranian trained 'Special Groups Militias.'

Sorry,Nancy. But you can always try impeaching Bush. That would be a great fundraiser.
I thought the congressional approval for the War on Terror covered Iran?
You mean the same authority that Clinton got for bombing Serbs in Kosovo?
She has that in common with too many people in both political parties. Our Nation does not have a will to fight. It’s a shame.

Our Illegal War
*by Congressman Helen Chenoweth*
(R.I.P. Congresswoman Chenoweth)
She doesn’t realize that the president can go to war for at least 30 days .... or am I mistaken?????
Hey San Fran Nan— Brush up on your Forrest Gump, STUPID is as Stupid does. The writer of that movie must have had you in mind when he wrote that phrase.
So we're going to conduct war by committee now huh? Give all of our military secrets to the seive of pacifists in the Congress huh?
That's a recepie to lose ever conflict we enter. It's bad enough that the President - The Commander-in-Chief of the US Armed Forces - can have the legs cut out from under his stand against some of the worst tyrants on planet Earth by having the troops funding cut, but Asking the worth less congress if he can declare war or not is simply idiotic.
We'll lose every war we start, but we'll never start any that way.
Right and wrong and the future of America don't rule congress, petty politics does. And I don't want my children's futures settled by petty politics in the midst of people who have a 12% approval rating because they're a bunch of dunces.
That’s why I wrote “or am I mistaken” which meant I did not know exactly how many days the president had .... but thanks for enlightening me ....

Jane
Glad to be of service. 8^)

Information
Group Info Name: Stop a backdoor war with Iran...1,000,000 strong
Type: Common Interest - Politics
Description: Whats Going On
The job of the Executive branch of government it to protect the US
The job of the Senate is to make laws
The job of the Congress is to allocate monies.
The job of the Judicial branch of government is to interpret the law, based on the Constitution.
So, if the President in his office as protector of the US, declares war on Iran, the only thing that congress can do is deny funding.
Thats what I get from the Constitution.
I know I will get many corrections to my interpretation, so be it always up for an educational experience.
But didn’t the approval of the war on terror already authorize the monies for where the fight took the war?
Tell that to Pelosiedit.
It took me much longer to become interested in politics. And at first, I was more of a libertarian than I am now.
