I think another poster was correct in saying that libertarian views were grossly overrepresented, relative to the conservative movement as a whole.
These wings of the party are married to each other and the GOP can not survive without this marriage. Both the libertarian GOP and the social conservative GOP need each other.
While I’m not seeing “focus on the family” type stuff in this, the Heritage Foundation is a very socially conservative PAC.
Regardless, Dr. Paul is a Christian, who as a medical doctor has delivered over 4000 babies and is very pro-life. He has been married to the same woman for 50 years. He is a VERY socially conservative candidate.

You're right, they absolutely do need each other, but it's a shaky marriage, and near divorce these days. There are candidates who today who encompass both traditions, as did Reagan. I don't think Paul is one of them.
The trouble with libertarians is that many of them think that everything will be fine in the world if we follow economists like von Mises at home, and if we withdraw from the world internationally. The U.S. is declining for many reasons, but materialistic economic policies and limited government alone will not save us. Our culture must be revived and preserved, and immigration by unfriendly elements must be stopped.

Neither is Ron Paul. By the way, how many countries did Reagan invade? The only one I count is Grenada, to rescue some trapped medical students. And we were there about a week. So Reagan, in your book, was an "isolationist," I guess, because he didn't needlessly invade other countries. He won the cold war without invading Russia - just like we were beating Saddam with sanctions and had no need to launch a distrastrous invasion.
You might have to wait a long time. When he starts losing straw polls and caucuses, then we can talk - but I think he's won more than any other GOP candidate so far, hasn't he?
The Paulies were in great force there and annoying to say the least. I really think the poll was not moderated as well as it could’ve been. To be a more concise poll, they should’ve separated the votes based upon your party affiliation. If you were libertarian, they should’ve have tallied those votes separately and did the same for independents and republicans.
So...yes, this conference was one of those that was not quite what most would consider “conservative”. However, I feel that there are a lot of libertarians that relate more to the conservative movement. There was quite a mix of people there and if you look at what was taught at the convention, you could see why it gathered such a diverse group of people. The organizers of the conference stated that it was a libertarian-leaning conference. That means that most of those folks throw their hat to Ron Paul.
It’s not big news for Ron Paul even though you may perceive it that way. As I mentioned, if Ron Paul hadn’t won the straw poll, there would’ve been something wrong with the makeup of the conference. Ron Paul did have a booth set up at the conference and they cluttered up the hallways with their signs everywhere. It was quite bothersome.
I do not think that Robespierre is a conservarive ideal.

Robespierre was a lawless man. Ron Paul is the one demanding that the law be upheld. It is our current leaders who refuse to obey the laws. The Constitution is supreme over the land, It must be amended to conduct activities it forbids. Yet from the first amendment to leaving our borders wide open, the current government has no intention of upholding the law.
The responsibility for the destruction of our country is firmly on the shoulders of the lawless in power. It is not too late to change course and restore the Constitution. If we do not, our Republic will collapse like so many others before it on the ash heap of history.
