As I said come say that to my face and see how you make out. I have all the self respect I need and more than you have apparently. I stay here to try and make it better. You don't leave as each state becomes liberal, eventually you run out of places to go. The correct thing, and the courageous thing, and the thing that commands the largest amount of respect, to do is to stay and try to make it right. In other words to go down fighting or to win out and restore conservatism to CA.
What you and the other dumb ass** are advocating is the same thing the Dems are pleading for and that is surrender. You think "self respecting" conservatives should leave CA and surrender to the liberals. You jerks are the ones without self respect, not I and the other conservatives still here fighting. Your idiotic reply sounds as if somehow I embrace liberals and the idiot who is governor now simply because I think we can win out eventually.
Good luck on your surrender, you are the ones who will be saying hello to "new masters" as you put it because you are willing to cave in and run like rats when things look bad.

Actually, since before he was elected. Remember Prop 49? And then there was marrying a Kennedy. ;-)

To the Members of the California State Assembly:
I am signing Assembly Bill 1471.
While I appreciate and understand that this technology is not without limitations, I am
signing this bill to provide law enforcement with an additional tool for solving crimes
committed with semi-automatic handguns in California.
Public safety is one of the most important roles of government and I encourage all
stakeholders to work on improving this technology so that it may become an even more
effective crime fighting tool.
Sincerely,
Arnold Schwarzenegger
AMEN.
“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” — Sir Winston Churchill
Good luck, Californian gun owners.
Thanks. What is it with Austrians and gun-banning?
Great post!
Seriously, that rocked.
And some of these yahoos forget that the alternative last year to Schwarzeneggar was Phil freaking Angelides, who was like John Kerry on a bad day. I guess we were supposed to write in {insert tough-talking non-CA FReeper’s name}.
I lived in Texas for a few years, so I know how easy it is to get “spoiled” but we need to stick around here in CA and get out the vote and stand our ground. I am active in the GOP here, somehow I wonder just how active the critics are in their own “perfect” states.
Maybe you should ask Jim Robinson, seeing as FreeRepublic originates in California.
Some of us know that we stand in the mouth of the beast and fight it here or else it winds up at your doorstep. Best you show a little respect for that.
My family has been in So. Calif. for over 150 years and my wifes even longer and we aren’t going anyhere!!
I hear the COPS were exempted...so THEY will still be able to buy UNSAFE handguns! UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Where do I sign?
Completely lame, Ahnold.
Interesting discussion regarding leaving California vs. staying to fight the good fight (not to mention family, friends, the coast, Tahoe, Yosemite, redwoods, mountains, etc.). I’d planned on moving to a gun-friendly/zero-state-income-tax state right before the housing market changed. The desire to live where I can cc and buy an AR-15 vs. the desire to stay and challenge all these wanna-be commies who create their alternate Give Peace a Chance nightmare incrementally via slimy legislation like this bill. All I know today is I am grateful for Free Republic because I know I’m not alone. Sacramental is seething with libs; like a grade-d zombie movie but real.
Well said!
CA suffers from Jerrymandering, creating a practical one party dictatorship. This has resulted in an unbalanced and undemocratic political process here.
Most Californian’s are part of the muddled middle, with a moderate to conservative bent on most issues. However, our government picks the voters, not the other way around.
Thanks for the "heads up". In 1999/2000 I was reloading about 1,000 rds per week. After moving to Idaho, I was no longer able to spend 4 or 5 sessions a week at the range. My work schedule and the weather cut my shooting down to 2 or 3 times per year. I still have some old primers. The ones I purchased today are the first new stock since moving. Storage time wasn't an issue in San Diego. Most of what was loaded was fired within a week. Sunday nights with Matt Drudge on the radio and box after box of ammo being reloaded.

In an earlier post, elkgrovedan said liberalism was a national problem. I also believe the emergence of one party is a national problem as well.
How different is a democrat from a republican? Mostly, they seem to work together to destroy America from within.
Amnesty. Gun control. Free trade. SPP. Both sides are working to make these things happen. Some of the worst offenders in this regard are republicans. McCain and Bush for example, regarding immigration. Guiliani was mixed up in gun control. I believe all but a very select few are dirty with trade votes.
California does have it’s share of insane leaders and voters, but this evil is widespread and may not be stoppable at this point. California is but one breeding ground, not the sole source of this madness.
Money is not the root of all evil, love of money is. Most of them, no matter what side they’re on, will sell anyone here for a few more dollars or votes, with no regard for the long-term disasters they are creating or have already created.
And they do pick the voters. If they can’t get enough of them from inside the country, they do everything they can to import them.
I live on a cul-de-sac in my new neighborhood in Idaho. One of my neighbors is a native of Idaho. All the other houses are occupied by former Californians. Frankly, the guy from Idaho is the most liberal of the neighbors. There is a certain level of concern on the part of the native Idaho population with respect to Californians. The area isn't a conservative utopia. There's plenty of loony Democrats. There's plenty of "old boy" networks in the business and political community. Thus far I've opted to maintain the "mind your own business" approach. I have friends at the local gun shops, computer shops and restaurants.
I want it to be free again.
