While I would love to leave California, I have wondered if this is really the case. We could leave California and be vilified for being from California in the new place.

I live on a cul-de-sac in my new neighborhood in Idaho. One of my neighbors is a native of Idaho. All the other houses are occupied by former Californians. Frankly, the guy from Idaho is the most liberal of the neighbors. There is a certain level of concern on the part of the native Idaho population with respect to Californians. The area isn't a conservative utopia. There's plenty of loony Democrats. There's plenty of "old boy" networks in the business and political community. Thus far I've opted to maintain the "mind your own business" approach. I have friends at the local gun shops, computer shops and restaurants.

We’ve thought about Idaho, Utah, Oregon and Texas, but the more I think about it, the more sense it makes to stay here where our family is. It’s probably more like daydreaming out loud on our part. I don’t believe there is really any conservative utopia we could escape to. The liberal anti-gun PC mentality is everywhere now, and we would be in a new place away from family and conservative friends where they despise Californians.

Thanks for the dose of reality. LOL!
