...The issue with Coulter is not whether she can sell books, but whether she helps or hurts the side of the political debate she claims to support. In my opinion, Coulter has never been a big help to the effort to build a conservative and Republican majority. Her most recent comments on the relationship of Christianity to Judaism, made on the CNBC show " The Big Idea" with Donnie Deutsch on Monday of this week , may prove particularly damaging...
At a time when party affiliation is fraying and a third of Americans consider themselves independent, to build a majority of 50% plus one requires persuasion. Independents will not accept all parts of either party's platform or approach but will choose a candidate for office based on which issues matter to them, and whether one or the other party connects with them on those issues. It is a skill to disagree at times without being disagreeable. Ronald Reagan had it, and it is one of the reasons he became so popular and patched together a large winning coalition . Coulter has clearly decided there is no economic advantage for her in this approach...

It was obvious Danny was trying to get something he could pretend to be offended at and run to all the NBC properties with. It got him on MSNBC, the Today show and lots of press.
It's BS.
This stupid thread is not helping.
You don't have to give it up. In fact in lala land where you seem to be it might be a great comfort to you.
This forum is inundated with subversive trolls and they love showing up on the Ann threads. I’ll tease ‘em a bit and move on. It eventually reaches a point of diminishing returns. I was a little late to this thread.
Yes, and they are running with it. Why did she appear on this dopey show?
Oh, pleze! And you did not answer my objections.
Christians were, in a sense, "perfected" Jews. What she meant was "redeemed" or transformed. Deutch then pulled his skirt up and began screaming. He wouldn't allow her to explain and it was obvious he was going use this to give her the Rush/O'Reily/Imus treatment.
You didn't answer mine. I had nothing to respond to except your accusation that I'm a troll (because I don't agree with you) Lets sumarize I accuse you of hysteria over Coulter's remarks saying that A. Coulter isn't running for office B. She's just a columnist and anyone who is going to vote Rep will vote Rep regardless of what some columnists says, and then you throw a full scale tantrum. Grow up.
It was a long interview and towards the end she just dropped her guard and and answered a stupid question.
He's so excited about this he has re-run the interview several times as a "special". No one would watch his piece of crap show if he didn't.
November 28, 2003 Insight reported that the number of Jews voting Republican has been steadily increasing under the Bush administration. According to the article, "the 2002 results of exit polls from the Voter News Service (VNS)... show the GOP congressional candidates picking up 35 percent of the Jewish vote last year. By sharp contrast, from 1992 to 2000 just 21 to 26 percent of Jews pulled the lever for Republicans in congressional races. And the 2002 share was nearly double the 19 percent of Jewish voters that presidential candidate Bush received in 2000. The reason for this surge, by many accounts, is Bush himself. Campaigning strongly, he took a huge political gamble and made the 2002 election a referendum on his policies. And in foreign policy, at least, Jews found a lot to like in the president's strong support of Israel and general handling of the war on terrorism." Exegetes would be unemployed.
Whatever
You would not believe how many people at my job have asked me about her comments today knowing that I am a Republican and Jewish. I am sick of defending this woman!
“I hope the fraction of people that stupid is small enough not to matter. If not, were doomed.”
Don’t worry. It’s unlikely that Thompson will be the Republican nominee. And even if, on the small chance, he does become the nominee, I still doubt he would be so dumb as to alienate a large percentage of the Republican base.
This coming election is a huge one for the country and the Left will pull every dirty trick they can.
Don't get sick of defending her. She did nothing wrong. Jewish Republicans, like Israeli bus drivers and black conservatives, are the bravest people in the world. Hang in there.
Of course, you might suggest they actually watch the whole interview. It has to be on-line somewhere.
Christians were, in a sense, "perfected" Jews. What she meant was "redeemed" or transformed. Deutch then pulled his skirt up and began screaming. He wouldn't allow her to explain and it was obvious he was going use this to give her the Rush/O'Reily/Imus treatment
I never said that Coulter was an anti-Semite, nor do I believe that this is the case. I happen to agree with her most of the time (most, as in 95% or more). I have a great deal of admiration for her - most of the time. It is OBVIOUS that Jews don't follow the same set of rules as Christians - otherwise, we'd be the same religion. OF COURSE she thinks her own religion is the best (as in metaphysically correct), as I do mine. People who consider religion to be important and who wake up to the fact that the religion they were born to isn't correct, convert to a different religion, and I'm sure that Ann isn't in line to do that - nor do I have a problem with that, even though I believe her to be wrong.
Re: the bit about "perfected" vs. "transformed" - Ann Coulter is nothing if not intelligent and articulate (part of the reason that I usually like and agree with her). So why couldn't she make that distinction or correction. The term "perfected" necessarily implies imperfection in the Jews in this instance. That is, like it or not, at least somewhat insulting - even if it is her heartfelt belief. You see, there's a difference between believing something on the one hand (which is fine, whatever it is), and telling other people that they are wrong on the other. Yes, it is anyone's right to say such a thing - but it is also the right (and natural inclination, by the way) for the target person to feel insulted. If your goal (Ann's, actually) was to describe her perfect society, she stepped right into Deutch's trap by using the terms she did and thereby insulting a large number of people. I expected better from her than to allow the likes of Deutch to outfox her. "Redeemed" doesn't help, either - what that word implies is that I and my co-religionists need redemption. Again, that's Ann's or your right to believe and/or say, but it is my right to think that wrong, presumptuous and insulting.
Oh, and I don't hold any water for Deutch and his politics, or his so-called journalistic abilities/character. I barely know who he is (my assumption being that he's just another whiney, biased liberal, just like 85% of the other reporters out there), and this incident has lowered my previously low opinion of him.
Somebody at work today, a “Christian” liberal Demo from Connecticut tried to get me into trouble by mentioning that “I am a fan and read her books”. to my surprise, somebody who is very devoutly Jewish defended Ann’s right to believe what she believes. But I HAVE TO BE CAREFUL. I can’t lose my job over this!
Turning this into a condemnation is a purposeful misinterpretation. Whether you think it's right or wrong, Christians preach conversion and salvation out of love.
There's a place in the conservative movement for people like Ann, and it's limited to debating people like Carville, one-on-one.
Of course, don't do anything to put your job in danger. I think the interview is up on CNBC.com. Just suggest they watch it and drop the subject.
Anyhow, you're my hero.
