Ann Coulter is Not Helping
American Thinker ^ | October 13, 2007 | Richard Baehr

Posted on 10/13/2007 3:40:48 PM PDT by EveningStar

...The issue with Coulter is not whether she can sell books, but whether she helps or hurts the side of the political debate she claims to support. In my opinion, Coulter has never been a big help to the effort to build a conservative and Republican majority. Her most recent comments on the relationship of Christianity to Judaism, made on the CNBC show " The Big Idea" with Donnie Deutsch on Monday of this week , may prove particularly damaging...

At a time when party affiliation is fraying and a third of Americans consider themselves independent, to build a majority of 50% plus one requires persuasion. Independents will not accept all parts of either party's platform or approach but will choose a candidate for office based on which issues matter to them, and whether one or the other party connects with them on those issues. It is a skill to disagree at times without being disagreeable. Ronald Reagan had it, and it is one of the reasons he became so popular and patched together a large winning coalition . Coulter has clearly decided there is no economic advantage for her in this approach...

Then why so many versions of the same story, e.g. the Gospel?

Read the Gospels and you will see that each has a different emphasis. Likewise with Chronicles and Kings.

Apparently not Noah and Enoch, whom God labeled "blameless" and are from the same bloodline as all supposed sinners

Blameless and sinless are two different things. Read Genesis 9 and we see good ol' Noah get drunk on the first fruits of his vineyard. Salvation has been the same throughout human history. Even under the Mosaic law, it was not the Law that saved the Israelites, it was faith.

No entity on Earth can be perfect in all things as the definition of "perfect"

True enough, but in Jesus and his sacrifice we have something and someone who is divine and, therefore, perfect.

No entity anywhere can be 200%

No, but it can be two things simultaneously. This is a divine mystery, like the trinity, but it is key to the Christian faith. Jesus had to be man to die for man's sins, but he had to be God to be perfect.

Irrelevant to his teachings, but I'll grant it

To the contrary, each of those elements was key to Jesus's life and mission. Being born of the virgin fulfilled a prophecy (Isaiah 7:14) and was part of His claim to being the Messiah, being Crucified dead fulfilled others (The Suffering Servant of Isaiah, Psalm 22, etc.), and being raised from the dead is key to Jesus's claim to being God (after all, how could God be bound by death?).

This view of salvation discards every moral and teaching that Jesus ever taught to his followers and disciples and renders all morality meaningless

It does nothing of the sort. I cannot even begin to guess how you reach this conclusion. If it is because you cannot work your way to heaven (i.e. it isn't "good" people who go to heaven) then that was postulated anyway. We deserve nothing less than eternal damnation and there is nothing we can do about it, in order to be freed of this second death we MUST accept Jesus's sacrifice. The result of this acceptance is that a man's heart is fundamentally changed so that he wishes to do good. A regenerate heart cannot do all the good it wishes and an unregenerate heart cannot do the evil it wishes.

But I do appreciate your explanation and the civil tone of our discussion.

I also appreciate the civility. It seems a rare commodity on some threads.

Take care...

And you, as well, FRiend.

You are wrong! At leaset 30% of Jewish votes go to the GOP and the media deliberately downplays it. In parts of NYC in Orhtodox neighborhoods, Bush got over 80% of the vote. Do you have a problem with that?

Looking at the Electoral College I am more worried than you are. New York and California will definitely go for Hillary. Florida, Virginia and Ohio will be in play and I suspect are leaning Blue. Anne should not antagonize those voters who normally like her. Sometimes she is too smart by half. Some states in the West are now tossups.

As for the 10% of Jews that do vote Republican, they are gone.

As for the 10% 1% of Jews that do vote Republican, they are gone. There fixed it.

I’m sure Mr. Baehr has been a BIG help to the conservative cause.

Anne has a god complex - she thinks she is god which is why she never apologizes for anything. I strongly suspect she does not spend much time in “prayer”.

Ann seems to be doing quit well actually, book sales are sky high.

BTW who is she supposed to be “helping”? I always thought writers were writers, not spokesman.

Bump for this fair and honest article.

There was not much excuses for this kind of quotes during an interview, specially when you have such experience in talking in public.

It is 30% - and the media deliberately downplays it. And yes, many of them will gone now thanks to Saint Anne and her big mouth.

I doubt it. The 10% of Jews who vote republican probably have more reading comprehension than you do.

You are totally full of mud. What is it about some people on this site (like you) who run around in terror of saying something that might possibly offend someone somewhere? Do people like pelosi worry about offending anyone? No, of course not. Is anyone actually going to vote differently because a columnist said something that MIGHT have offended them? Maybe one or two, but to whine "many of them will be gone" is utter nonsense - just like this article.

The timing of her intemperate comments was also terrible. The woman should think before she speaks.

Is Coulter running for office? Those who are going to vote liberal will vote liberal those who are going to vote liberal lite (republican) will vote liberal lite. The comments of one columnist aren't going to make a bit of difference. Contrary to the tone of the article, the sky isn't falling.

Coulter doesn’t build the conservative base, never has, she preaches to the chior... Liberals and moderates aren’t buying her books, and those that do read them are not going to have their world views changed in any grand way.

I have no issue with her comments, she stated what Christians believe, period. There is nothing offensive about it.. she didn’t suggest we kill people who don’t convert, or anything, just the truth of the Christian faith, which is not offensive, unless of course you are so insecure in your religion that the thought that people don’t think the same way you do they must be offensive.

Coulter is not out there to help or hurt the cause, she’s just out the doing her schtick and making her $$.

Are you a troll?

Not only are you a fool, but an egotistical one at that. I disagree with your exalted and infallible opinion, so I must be a "troll" I have a question for you. Aren't you afraid of offending me so that I might not vote Republican?

“Oh, I don’t think he can avoid offending the extremists like Dobson.”

Do you happen to know how much of the Republican Party the “extremists like Dobson” (your words) make?

Apparently you don’t.

I don't believe that Coulter is a hindrance at all. She certainly says some off the wall things but if the author thinks that the left side of the country is gpoing to take any portion of the right seriously is myopic.

Look at what the media tried to do to Rush these last weeks, and O'Rielly before him. What portion of those attacks were based on honest journalism? Absolutely none. The left will not stop attacking the right regardless of how "reasoned" our approach is.

I don't think that all GOP candidates and supporters need to open up w/ both barrels like Ann does but one flamethrower doesn't hurt.

And besides that she's really funny sometimes.
