Analysts Find Israel Struck a Nuclear Project Inside Syria
NYTimes ^ | October 14, 2007 | DAVID E. SANGER and MARK MAZZETTI

Posted on 10/13/2007 1:39:54 PM PDT by Dog

Israel’s air attack on Syria last month was directed against a site that Israeli and American intelligence analysts judged was a partly constructed nuclear reactor, apparently modeled on one North Korea has used to create its stockpile of nuclear weapons fuel, according to American and foreign officials with access to the intelligence reports.

That’s twice the Israelis have knocked out nuclear capability in the middle east. We should be incredibly grateful to them. Otherwise we would have been facing a nuclear-armed Saddam Hussein.

Let me guess—Ahwannastartajihad’s been donating funds for this little project too? You know, just because the Syrians need electricity and all that. Uh, huh. Sure. That’s the ticket.

There are still many details about this that are less clear. For example, I wonder if while the Israelis were lighting up the Syrians radar grid coming in from the coast, if a somewhat larger, slower, higher altitude, and not particularly noticeable aircraft came in from across the Iraq border.

The reason being that this installation was below ground, and it might be problematic to try and take out such an installation with the ordnance carried by high performance aircraft. However, a bunker buster...

Syria had better watch out and make sure Israel doesn’t mistake the bunker with all of Iraq’s WMDs for the nuclear one! ;-)

Too bad Israel doesn't have a colony in the North Pacific. :>)

Secondary reason for the raid.....Israel sought to get its mojo back.

A senior Israeli official, while declining to speak about the specific nature of the target, said the strike was intended to “re-establish the credibility of our deterrent power,”

Finally, the NY Times acknowledges a huge story that passed by them weeks ago. Haha. Still, it can be said, if the NY Times is forced to report it...it really did happen.

Israel’s September 6 strike deep in Syria probably explains Russia’s renewal of Strategic Bear/Backfire bomber flights starting September 13.

Russia has to go on the Offensive for the moment now that it’s patently clear that they can’t Defend their airspace.

Anywhere...

Don’t worry we got it covered...I’ll match any Times reporter against a couple of freepers who I know have been on this story since day one.
