Pepsi, Coke rivalry becomes physical

Fri Oct 12, 9:46 PM ET

The long-standing rivalry between Coke and Pepsi took a physical turn Friday when a Pepsi deliveryman allegedly punched his Coke counterpart in the face at a western Pennsylvania Wal-Mart, state police said.

The two deliverymen were "apparently bickering back and forth" while unloading their wares at the Indiana County store, police said. When the Coke deliveryman left the store, his counterpart allegedly punched him in the face three times, breaking his nose and giving him a black eye, police said.

No charges have been filed, but police characterized the incident as a misdemeanor simple assault.

PEPSI was, is and always will be the better Cola, and the best drink in the universe.

**I think they still make it that way in mexico.**

I just pulled out a bottle of Mexican Coke, Hecho en Mexico.

On the paper ingredients label it has...HIGH FRUITCOSE CORN SYRUP.

Besides, I think Okinawan and Thailand COKES are better.

Boylan Sugar Cane Cola tastes so much better than either of those corn-syrup laden instant diabetes drinks that it's a wonder they don't withdraw both products from the market in utter humiliation. ;)

Nah, it's what delivery guys do.

In the 1980s, (probably from a Forbes Magazine article) a local NYC startup was offering their product in 20oz bottles for the same price as big guys.

The delivery guys for the big soda distributors had a fit, and besides the physical stuff, started posting fliers about a CIA plot to sterilize minorities, never mind the company was started by minorities, iirc.

<>for the same price as big guys. ==> for the same price as the smaller bottle of the big guys.

I'm a "simple" Texas A&M Aggie Former Student so please explain to me how "Coke is inferior to Pepsi."

For some reason this article triggered a wave of nostalgia.

Anybody remember the following soft drinks: Nehi, Hires Root Beer?

Thanks for sharing PopMan. Great insight. Here in the DFW metroplex I think there is a Cadbury Schweps dist. center in Plano. So we get a lot of the RC cola on the shelves. Like you said, when we put it out at parties it sits till the Choke/Pisspi is gone and THEN discover that it tastes better. To each their own, now pass me a RC.

Yup, we were bought out by the former bottler (Turner) before Cadbury bought the Dallas market.

I actually was part of the team that converted that Plano Market to the RC Cola / Seven Up bottler before we were bought out by Dr. Pepper Turner group many years ago.

“Yeah but diet coke is better than diet pepsi.”

I can’t let that stand. Diet Coke tastes bland - it has no bite. Diet Pepsi packs much more of punch :)

Pepsi was invented as a cheaper competitor to Coke during the depression, just like Budweiser was invented as a cheaper competitor for real beer. Now they’re both market leaders, proving Barnum was right. Flame on, I’m outa here.
