The Right's Revealingly Cruel Treatment of the Frost Family (Free Republic Mentioned)
The New Republic ^ | Friday, October 12, 2007 | E. J. Dionne

Posted on 10/12/2007 6:13:47 AM PDT by kristinn

Conservatives claim to be in favor of stable families, small businesses, hard work, private schools, investment and homeownership.

So why in the world are so many on the right attacking the family of Graeme Frost?

SNIP

The kids were treated, thanks to S-CHIP. The Frosts spoke out so the public would know that real people lie behind the acronym.

Their reward was to be trashed on right-wing blogs and talk radio as if they were multimillionaires ripping off the system. The assault on the Frosts apparently began on the Free Republic website and quickly spread to National Review Online, Power Line, and Michelle Malkin's blog, as well as Rush Limbaugh's radio show.

SNIP

OK, the Democrats are "fair game," but a 12-year-old? No wonder nobody talks about compassionate conservatism anymore.

As a general rule, I am a fan of the blogosphere. It has broadened the public debate and brought new people into politics. And nasty stuff is by no means limited to the right-wing blogs. Left-of-center blogs whose political views I largely share have published offensive stuff, too. Shaun Mullen, who blogs at The Moderate Voice--yes, there are moderate blogs--is right to generalize when he says that the targeting of the Frost family reveals "the vicious underbelly of the blogosphere."

So rather than just condemn the right-wingers as meanies, let's take their claims seriously. Doing so makes clear that they are engaged in a truly perverse and incoherent form of class warfare.

SNIP

But here is a family with modest possessions doing everything conservatives tell people they should do, and the right trashes them for getting help to buy health insurance for their children.

There is no way in the world that someone buys a $450k house,

It would appear he paid $55K for the house in 1990, but, all other things considered, it's still MAN THE LIFEBOATS.

Ej is the poster boy for why Democrats use untouchables in political policy debates and the silent Republicans are the reason they get away with it every time.

The Democrats use 12-year-olds as human shields. Despicable.

Dionne was Bill Clinton's oran grinder monkey when Billappeared in Philadelphia.

Clinton handed Dionne a card Clinton had preselected from a deck of audience question cards. And when Dionne handed it back, Clinton patted him on the head and gave him a peanut.

Dionne is a shill, not a journalist.

I would rather be viewed as mean for exposing the truth about charlatans than be viewed as a coward for hiding behind and using children in a callous attempt to deflect any criticism or debate.

So, Mr. Dionne, it is your contention that the Left be allowed to tell lies to advance their socialist agenda, and as long as they're hiding behind the skirts of a twelve-year old those lies should be allowed to stand?

Small business owners can, if structured correctly, thanks to GWB, pay themselves a “salary” from their business and move the rest over as as dividends ( untaxed ) from the business.

While there may be a lot of things small business owners can do under the tax system to shield their income, dividends are not untaxed. Dividends are in fact taxed twice -- first as corporate income (dividends are always after-tax disbursements) and then again as personal income to the recipient of the dividend.

This idiot needs to get a clue. It is the RATS who are trotting out a child and hiding behind him for the precise reason that they think no one will take a pot shot at the kid.

Democrats are total phonies. They've been caught--again!!

“a family with modest possessions”

They have FAAAAARRR more than most of the people I have known all my adult life.
I don’t consider myself poverty stricken, but this family has more assets than I have—by far—and I have never expected any taxpayer program to pay for my insurance or medical costs.
I went over 9 years with absolutely no health insurance because it got priced off my place when I turned 55. I was also self-employed and providing my own health insurance. It more than doubled at that time, and I went without a safety net. I never thought the rest of the taxpaying population should pay for health coverage for me.

I still don’t know why her AUTO insurance didn’t pay the costs of the kids damages.

Did she lose her license???

STOP IT. You need a 12 step program for your Rudy obsession. It’s going to be a really tough 8 years for you. :)

I am sincerely wondering when truth has become “cruel treatment.”

<<

Revealingly wrong in the first sentence.

The kids were treated by medical professionals. Thanks should go to them, but more to the point of this article, thanks must also go to people who, on net balance, pay more to government in the form of direct and hidden taxes than they cost government.

But, if EJ is so concerned about the family, he should really start with the reasons that the wife in most families must work, and that is the cost of government coupled with the seizure and destruction of private wealth through the so-called Social “Security” program.

The tax system introduces its own distortions in family behavior. Indeed we should not anymore have a health insurance crisis than we have a life insurance crisis, or any other type of insurance. Health insurance has assumed the higher status of an entitlement because most employers provide it as part of the tax-advantaged fringe benefit package which does two important things, both bad: it hides the full cost and it imposes a plan that the employee would probably not purchase if they were spending their own money.

The fault for this lies entirely with government, for it was during WW II that government changed this part of the tax code in order to give workers a raise without seeming to violate wage controls.

Further, it is government on the state level that wants to keep its political fingers in this pie by keeping tight control on what companies are licensed in each state, and what benefits policies must pay. It is also states, and the federal government that have granted insurance companies exemptions from anti-collusion and anti-trust laws with respect to the “reasonable and customary” fee schedule that for some reason seems almost identical from policy to policy and company to company.

This is a mess. The mess starts and ends with government. All other players in this mess are only responding to the incentives and rules that government allowed them to gain through the political system.

The Press is who I am after, I and most folks here have great sympathy for the children. Here’s where the facts are at for the ‘black ice’ explanation to be questionable;

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1909842/posts?page=89#89

The date, December 4, 2004, a Saturday: from;

http://www.kennedykrieger.org/kki_touch_article.jsp?pid=4884

On December 4, 2004, the car the children were riding in hit a patch of black ice and spun into a tree.

.
The weather shows there was rain on 1 Dec 2004 that ended by 10:54 am, 8:54 am daytime high occurs at 55.9 degrees, 15 hours later, on the 2nd at 2:54 am the temp nears freezing, daytime highs are around 50 degrees throughout the week; that leaves 2 1/2 days of the road drying off before 4 Dec 2004, if everything given here is accurate.

The week’s weather;

http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KBWI/2004/12/1/WeeklyHistory.html

The rain on the 1st;

http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KBWI/2004/12/1/DailyHistory.html

The weather on the 4th;

http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KBWI/2004/12/4/DailyHistory.html

.
By 9:54am on the 4th, the temp was above freezing at 39 degrees.

The time of day did the accident occurred is still unknown to me.

.
Do we allow the Press to embellish an accident to furthur the Democrat agenda?

I still don’t know why her AUTO insurance didn’t pay the costs of the kids damages.

I had the same question and thanks to Freeper Tax-chick, I learned that if you are the driver at fault (and the mother was the only driver involved in the accident), your auto insurance will not cover medical expenses.

Of course the Left will not mention that fact that Frost and his family are a complete fraud. A manufactured media creation to demagogue an indefeasible Democrat position on Schip. Seems now days the Left, especially that portion in the Left in the failed Media, find it objectionable when someone does THEIR job for them and shines the light of truth on political fraud.

Private-school tuition is not tax-deductible, even if the school is the “parish church”.

We send out daughter to Catholic school, even though we are not Catholics. Members in good standing of the local Catholic parish that runs the school whose children attend get a “parishioner discount” of about 15% off the full tuition. I think this arrangement is fairly typical, although the specifics may vary from one Archdiocese to another.
