Dr. James Dobson Caught Between a rock and the other Rock

In a surprising move Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family announced in an op-ed in the New York Times that he and some 50 colleagues met and discussed what position they would take in the upcoming Presidential race.

According to a report on Fox news October 9, 2007 Dobson said “If neither of the two major political parties nominates an individual who pledges himself or herself to the sanctity of human life, we will join others in voting for a minor party candidate. Those agreeing with the proposition were invited to stand, and the result was almost unanimous.”

My motto is 4 years of Hillary isn’t as bad as 8 of Rudy.

I won’t be leaving the party, they will have left me. I have no intentions of belonging to a party that treats its pro-life members like the democrats treat the black vote.

Very cogent arguments. Thanks for the post.

Most Rudy supporters suffer from UFOH.

Unatural fear of Hillary.

“Also, the instances of impregnation by forcible rape is not nearly as common as is generally thought.”

It matters not.

“Carrying an unwanted pregnancy to full term and giving the child up for adoption is physically and emotionally far less damaging than abortion.”

That depends entirely on the woman and her husband. If my wife were under a high risk of serious complication resulting from pregnancy, there is no way I would ask her to give up her life for a child that might not even survive birth. Absolutely no way. If she were raped, there is no way I could insist she to carry to term. I just couldn’t do it.

I can not get behind “no exceptions” legislation on abortion. I certainly respect your opinion but I do not share it.

The crux of the matter is that this is a task for the states and not the federal government.

“We are a throw-away society—a utilitarian culture when we offer up these innocent lives in sacrifice to the unbridled lust of those who rape.”

That’s a bit overly dramatic. More realistically, no lingering, constant reminder of the horrifying incident is wanted.

“Your boy Rudy is toast. He will split the party right down the middle if nominated.”

No he won’t. A fraction of you “cut off your nose to spite your face” types will stay home and grumble but other than that, he’s in good shape. Either way, it won’t be him splitting the party, it will be YOU.

Stick to religion. You know jack about politics. “SoCon”? You know what a social conservative is? A liberal who reads the bible. You love a big old fat government to keep all the sinners in line. You need a grandiose cult of personality with the divine right of kings. YOU are the problem with this party. You have forgotten what a republic is, if you ever knew. You have forgotten what conservatism is, if you ever knew.

You keep your big fat intrusive, monarchistic government out of my SOCIAL life, libbie.

>> James Dobson is a licensed psychologist and is in private practice. <<

Yes, and if Dobson wants to give his expert opinion on child care and psychological impact he's welcome to do so.

Instead, Dobson has become a self-appointed holier-than-thou "Christian leader" who feels the need to lecture America on who fits his narrow definition of "Christian". (Apprently you must be a weekly church-goer to qualify) Dobson does not hold ANY position in a church authority, is not an ordained minister, has no training or experience in overseeing spiritual bodies, lacks any edcational studies in religion, and basically has ZERO quaifications to speak out on religion matters.

Dobson has as much crediblity yapping about religious matters as I do. And it appears that he's as phony as Je$$e Jack$on when it comes to putting on the dog-and-pony show portraying himself as America's spirtual authority (perhaps moreso... at least "Rev" Jack$on managed to earn a degree in theology first)

>> Me, too. I took my name off the FOTF mailing list after over 20 years. I am considering selling the Dobson books I own. I don’t need advice from someone with such TERRIBLE judgment. <<

Dobson appears to be as big a phony as "Rev" Je$$e Jack$on. Dobson has as much "qualifications" to speak out on religious matters as I do. It seems he thinks having a nationally syndicated radio show about child care makes him America's premier religious authority.

ColorCountry,

I'm "not" a rabid Mitt Romney fan ... but even if Mitt's flip-flopped on Pro-Life issues in the past (and now he's on the right side) ...

Obama, Edwards and Hilliary NEVER have been Pro-Life ...

And Mitt Romney WOULD NOT BE RE-ELECTED if he switched to Pro-Choice during his first term of office.

Here's an interesting observation (by myself) of Mitt Romney ... with me speaking as a Born-Again Christian (and former Dobson supporter) ...

Mormons and Jehohva Witnesses are generally DESPISED in the United States ... and we ALL know that's true ...

Mitt Romney is an intelligent, talented, good looking man who's had the opportunity DECADES AGO to dump his (ridiculous) Mormon beliefs ... for the political convenience of becoming Roman catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, etc.

Yet, Mitt Romney STUCK TO HIS GUNS ... ala Ronald Reagan ...

THAT's THE KIND OF HONEST MAN the United States needs to elect as President in 2008 ...

Never Surrender,

No, it is not “overly dramatic”. Nothing could be more “realistic” than the reality of abortion. A child given up for adoption does not have to been seen again if the adoption is done properly and there is no “visible reminder” that way. Actually, it is the memory of these two actions that doesn’t go away.

Making a real life decision in this matter and having a personal experience of it is different from deciding from a distance and a hypothesis, I can assure you.

I'm an expert on IRS 501 C-3 tax-exempt status for religious corporations ...

And I guarantee you that Dobson (et al) WILL BE SHUT DOWN BY THE U.S. Justice Department ... if Hilliary wins in 2008 ... and Dobson would deserve EVERY BIT of IT ...

Frankly, Dobson is acting like an idiot ...

Send me your e-mail adress (in a private reply) ... and I'll e-mail you exactly why I'm the expert I am ... Better yet, telephone the lawyers for Falwell, Dobson, Oral Roberts and Pat "Korean War Combat Veteran" Robertson ... they KNOW who I am ...

Stick to religion. You know jack about politics. “SoCon”? You know what a social conservative is? A liberal who reads the bible.
***What on earth are you doing here on a socon forum if you have such disdain for socons? Why don’t you go to WideAwakes where you’ll feel more comfortable? Your antichristian bigotry is sickening.

You love a big old fat government to keep all the sinners in line.
***You presume to tell us socons what we want, what we love, and what we need? You are incredibly arrogant.

You need a grandiose cult of personality with the divine right of kings.
***Wrong.

YOU are the problem with this party.
***Hey, dimbulb: This is a SOCON forum. You come onto a SOCON forum and say that YOU SOCONS are the problem with this party? NO! YOU Rockerfeller republicans or RINOs or whatever you antichristian bigots are, YOU are the PROBLEM in this party. AND you’re the problem in this forum. Get lost.

You have forgotten what a republic is, if you ever knew. You have forgotten what conservatism is, if you ever knew.
***You deserve to be zotted, which is something I think you will know. Go on over to the bugzapper thread to see what JimRob thinks of Freepers like you.

If these same people had bothered to vote back then, we would never have been subjected to Bill Clinton. I think most people can see what’s going on here. Ego trips.

***Fascinating. See what JimRob has to say about turning out the lights on a very similar thread. Since you don’t agree with the founder of this website and you want us out of the party, maybe it’s time for you to consider leaving Free Republic for WideAwake, since this is, after all, not a GOP website.

Comment:

I know full well Jim Robinson's sentiments, so do not use him as an enabler for your arguments.

As I said before my wife refused to do abortions and I backed her even though it meant eventually losing her staff position.

You’ve obviously not ever read a book on salesmanship or how to win friends and influence knot heads.

Hargar The Horrible said “Friends come and go but a good enemy will last a life time”.

You spout a lot of words wanting, like Dobson to control those who do not share you fanatical jihadists views.

Jim Jones wanted control to the point of having his followers commit suicide.

Dobson wants control or he will not vote knowing full well he is selling out Gods chosen country.

Where did I say anyone wanted you out of FR.

You made the threat and I took you up and simply asked you not to be immature as a small minded juvenile.

I also asked you not to turn out the lights on those wanting to stay and fight for America.

I want you to stay because if you leave then the rest of the clear thinking patriots would not have a group of hard headed knot heads with which to argue.

It’s clear that anything I say or do will not change your self righteous opinion of what you really want to do to America to show your machismo.

One thing for sure is that if Hellary and the Clinton machine do get elected your going to need a lot of Preparation H to relieve the pain of having your ego molested big time and quite often.

This whole thread about Dobson reminds me of the song by Ray Stevens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_067ahbXfg about a Mississippi Squirrel turned loose in the First Self righteous Church of Pascagoula Mississippi.

BTW you said 50 leaders were there, yet I don’t know that I have ever voted for any of them much less know their names.

Could it be the same narrow minded ones who try to tell me what a conservative is and how to vote?

The religious zealots want to shut down anyone who differs with their thoughts like those at MoveOn that do not speak their scripted words.

Repeat after me, you can in good conscious vote Republican because your helping save Gods chosen country.
