NEW YORK Appearing on Donny Deutsch's CNBC show, "The Big Idea," on Monday night, columnist/author Ann Coulter suggested that the U.S. would be a better place if there weren't any Jewish people and that they needed to "perfect" themselves into -- Christians.
It led Deutsch to suggest that surely she couldn't mean that, and when she insisted she did, he said this sounded "anti-Semitic."
Asked by Deutsch whether she wanted to be like "the head of Iran" and "wipe Israel off the Earth," Coulter stated: "No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. ... That's what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament."
Deutsch told E&P's sibling magazine, Adweek, today, "I was offended. And then, and this was interesting, she started to back off and seemed a little upset."
Asked to gauge her reaction, Deutsch said, "I think she got frightened that maybe she had crossed a line, that this was maybe a faux pas of great proportions. I mean, did it show ignorance? Anti-Semitism? It wasn't just one of those silly things."
A transcript, provided by Media Matters, follows. *
DEUTSCH: Christian -- so we should be Christian? It would be better if we were all Christian?
COULTER: Yes.
DEUTSCH: We should all be Christian?
COULTER: Yes. Would you like to come to church with me, Donny?
DEUTSCH: So I should not be a Jew, I should be a Christian, and this would be a better place?
COULTER: Well, you could be a practicing Jew, but you're not.
DEUTSCH: I actually am. That's not true. I really am. But -- so we would be better if we were - if people -- if there were no Jews, no Buddhists --
COULTER: Whenever I'm harangued by --

Do you want Christians to just be phony, and NOT believe in redemption and salvation which is at the center of their (my) faith.
Would you rather Christians just say to themselves, 'ah, what the heck. who cares about other people. They ain't worth nothin'. Just let them stay the way they are.
I believe that anyone TRULY proud of their faith would like to see others convert to that faith.
I never visit those sites, so I will defer to your expertise.
Mr. Deutsch is worth more than the entire Media Matters organization, and the personal wealth of every employee at Media Matters, combined.
He doesn’t grind anyone, he NEVER talks about religion on his show. He neveer brings up religion, unless it has to do with something like marketing concepts or organizational concepts. Coulter brought this on herself.
Brought what on herself? Sell a hundred thousand more of new book? Get her a bunch more TV gigs? Ann carefully chose every word she said and the result will be exactly what she intended.
OK! We get it. You-don’t-like-Ann-Coulter. Fine. Now tell us, specifically, what was so offensive? And please get to the point.
Yes, she brought about a slap in the face to all patriotic non-Christians to build her book sales to patriotic Christians.
She injected religious hegemony dialect into her public persona to sell books.
She can do as she likes. She will lose more than she gains, that of course doesn’t mean she won’t continue to live comfortably eating a big slice of a smaller pie.
Don't try and defend her, or explain "what she really meant". How about letting HER do so for a change?
She openly attacked religious pluralism, and while probably a well crafted statement devised before being on stage, she also implied that non-Christians have religious traditions unworthy of inclusion in the American society while on stage.
She fundamentally attacked the basic tenants of a single religion, Judaism, but it has wider implications. She then questioned a man’s religious conviction on national TV, as a guest of his show, in his house, and then used a sterotype from a Jewish sitcom to back up her case, showing her absolute ignorance of first person experience on the subject....
She just piled on the stoopid and the ignorance in that interview.
Judaism is not a proselytizing religion.
Coulter used Falwell’s belief in “dual-covenant” theology as her basis for this outburst. If she believes as Falwell does, than she shouldn’t care whether Jews convert to Christianity, since they would go to Heaven anyway.
Touche, jwalsh, touche!
And people wonder who 90% of Jews vote Democrat.
Thanks, Ann.
Now the Dems can expect 98% of the Jewish Vote in 2008.

A religion that doesn’t believe in itself isn’t much of a religion

Too bad she didn’t talk about Salvation but she is extremely Bold to speak of her Faith.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Thank you Ann. But my Jewish wife and daughter are perfect.
And with her statement, Jews will be voting for Democrats is higher numbers than African Americans.
"Jews think the world would be a better place if everyone was Jewish, etc etc"Not quite. Jews just want to be left alone. Orthodox Judaism discourages conversion, but persistent and sincere requests for conversion are accepted.
I saw the interview. Media Matters is almost as left wing as the NY Times. Almost.
