Ann Coulter on CNBC Show: Jews Need 'Perfecting'

NEW YORK Appearing on Donny Deutsch's CNBC show, "The Big Idea," on Monday night, columnist/author Ann Coulter suggested that the U.S. would be a better place if there weren't any Jewish people and that they needed to "perfect" themselves into -- Christians.

It led Deutsch to suggest that surely she couldn't mean that, and when she insisted she did, he said this sounded "anti-Semitic."

Asked by Deutsch whether she wanted to be like "the head of Iran" and "wipe Israel off the Earth," Coulter stated: "No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. ... That's what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament."

Deutsch told E&P's sibling magazine, Adweek, today, "I was offended. And then, and this was interesting, she started to back off and seemed a little upset."

Asked to gauge her reaction, Deutsch said, "I think she got frightened that maybe she had crossed a line, that this was maybe a faux pas of great proportions. I mean, did it show ignorance? Anti-Semitism? It wasn't just one of those silly things."

A transcript, provided by Media Matters, follows. *

DEUTSCH: Christian -- so we should be Christian? It would be better if we were all Christian?

COULTER: Yes.

DEUTSCH: We should all be Christian?

COULTER: Yes. Would you like to come to church with me, Donny?

DEUTSCH: So I should not be a Jew, I should be a Christian, and this would be a better place?

COULTER: Well, you could be a practicing Jew, but you're not.

DEUTSCH: I actually am. That's not true. I really am. But -- so we would be better if we were - if people -- if there were no Jews, no Buddhists --

COULTER: Whenever I'm harangued by --

I didn’t mean to imply you thought she hated Jews. I’m sorry. I was trying, unsuccessfully, to illustrate how the transcript itself debunked any antisemitism on Ann’s part.

I would hope that every Jew felt the same way. I would be insulted if a Jew looked at me and said “No way. He can’t be a Jew”. If he said “I wish you were a Jew”, I would be honored.

Judaism, traditionally, has not prosletyzed, does not believe that everyone should be a Jew, and does not believe that gentiles need to convert to Judaism in order to be saved. The Talmud says that "the righteous of all nations have share in the world to come."

Good, don’t hold your breath, you won’t get it. They have their butts so tied into Rooty and the liberals, they would rather believe Deutsch than a conservative.

Quite frankly, I am done with the GOP and despise the Democrats.

When conservatives will no longer support a conservative and decide they will believe Deutsch, I have had enough.

I am greatly sickened.

My specific area of questioning was to Christopher’s own atheist fundamentalist belief he is advocating that the world would be better off without religion, Christianity in particular.

He’s written a book about it and defended the position in debates.

Much more advocacy for stamping out a religion than Ms. Coulter has done.

Um, yeah, I know. He voted No on one and Yes on another. Your point, in pinging me, is?

Well hell, it sure beats the muzzies invading our land, killing our weak selfish leaders, killing those that won’t convert to Islam, doesn’t it?

Satire evades the libs. Geez.

I hear what your saying, but Jews don’t try to convert people. With very few exceptions it’s a religion that one is born to. Therefore, you won’t see the impulse to argue theirs as the “one true religion”.

Coulter has gotten big stuff wrong before (Thompson), too.

Your words, were you speaking of another issue where Ann was wrong about Thompson other than Impeachment?

That’s OK. There is another thread on this subject with Debbie Schlussel defending Ann.

Christians aren’t running around holding heads and hands that people seem to suddenly be missing.
Muslims do.

Jews don’t run around screaming like crazed chipmunks before blowing themselves up next to teenage girls in pizzarias.
Muslims do.

Living in New York state, I can tell you that the 9/11 “wives” truly were enjoying the publicity brought by having lost their husbands.
It wasn’t about their grief, not anymore, it was about them and their spot in the limelight.
That’s, as they say, “Welcome to NY.”

Oh, and welcome to FR.

I am not in the habit of keeping score, but I would suggest that in recent times, perhaps nearly 20 years, he has written far more criticism of Islam than of Christianity.

Being one of the most vocal critics of Islam on the Left is a position that I believe to be quite important. Because, as I said, Coulter seems to mostly preach to the converted, pardon the pun.

Hitchens actually has the ability to change minds. That to me is far more important. I’m not a huge fan of organized religion in general, so I try to observe his anti-religion stance from a distance. There is much I do not agree with, and I am certainly not an atheist.

But he makes points supportive of America’s fight against Islam more effectively than many conservatives, which is no mean feat. And if the anti-religion stuff is the worst anyone can say about him—and that includes Mother Teresa—then I’d say what he brings to the table with his views is worthy if you consider the big picture.

"When I hear Ann describe what was actually said, I’ll start drawing conclusions."

I hope she said exactly what was reported - I agree with every word of it. It was pretty straight New Testament theology. Those who hate what she said also hate what Christ said - exactly as Christ said they would.

“and a few Cheese Burgers.”

Congrats on standing shoulder to shoulder with the epithet tossed out there by DU, 100% of the Libs, ClownPosse (May they rot in shame and contempt) and many other AF sites.

Ann was making a religious statement

Ann made a religious statement, which is her right as a Christian (just as it is my right as a Jew to reject it). But she also made a secular, political statement: that America would be "better off" if everyone was a Christian. That is demonstrably false, and is a slap in the face to every patriotic Jew who ever did anything for this country, from Haym Solomon on down.

Well, we know for a fact that one Jew did proselytize.

But then again Jewish proselytizing was the rule rather than the exception many moons ago.

Coulter was wrong about Thompson on a number of factual issues. If you are interested in details, you may go look at the thread for her weekly column yesterday. Among other things, she got the following two big things wrong:

(1) on which of the two charges — perjury and obstruction of justice — Fred voted against conviction. (She subsequently corrected the error); and

(2) she utterly failed to mention **the fact that he voted to convict on one of the charges** at all. In other words, she left the reader with the impression that Fred was entirely against conviction on the impeachment articles, when, in fact, had Fred’s vote carried the day, Clinton would have been out.

I’m not going to respond to any more stuff about the Fred/Ann issue. Ann is sometimes wrong, like yesterday (and about Chief Justice Roberts), but usually she’s not.

I take it you haven’t talked to many Orthodox Rabbis on the idea of Gentile conversion. They range from “No” to “HELL NO” to “Get out of my face you goy!”

And the trick is, to come to the same Rabbi all the time until he tires of you and sees you’re serious.
