Slash-and-burn columnist Ann Coulter shocked a cable TV talk-show audience Monday when she declared that Jews need to be "perfected" by becoming Christians, and that America would be better off if everyone were Christian.
Coulter made the remarkable statements during an often heated appearance to promote her new book on advertising guru Danny Deutsch's CNBC show "The Big Idea."
In response to a question from Deutsch asking Coulter if "it would be better if we were all Christian," the controversial columnist responded: "Yes."
"We should all be Christian?" Deutsch repeated.
"Yes," Coulter responded, asking Deutsch, who is Jewish, if he would like to "come to church with me."
Deutsch, pressing Coulter further, asked, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians?" She responded: "Yeah."
Coulter deflected Deutsch's assertion that her comments were anti-Semitic, matter-of-factly telling the show's obviously upset host, "That is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews."

Jews are alot more rational than you may think. Many Jews will not be offended by Ann Coulter. They will know she is a friend, she does not threaten them.
If Jews viewed Ann as a threat you would see it in Jewish blogs all over the place that she is a threat. But she is not and the most Jews will do is have a discussion about it and conclude ‘no big deal’. This is mostly non-news to them. They know that most Christians or people calling themselves Christians have her view, that the Messiah came whereas they believe He has not yet come.
I wouldn’t worry about losing Jewish votes. Most Jews vote democrat because historically they clustered in urban areas controlled by democrats. Jews that get out of the urban areas start to gravitate to Republicans over time but not right away. Look at Palm Beach and Broward counties, many Jews there are transplants from NYC, a liberal democrat bastion.
The Jewish experience is one of identifying like with like, of clustering together to find common themes and histories, of discovering purpose together. They cluster together because it is natural to do so. And if their cluster leadership is oriented to democrats then the rest follow suit. Same as unions.
But look at Rabbi Lapin. Is he going to be insulted by Coulter? No, he’s far too intelligent for that. In fact I would wager he won’t give it a second thought unless someone presses him about it.
From #62 of the link:
Name: Geoff
City: New York State:
She is not threatening us with violence, and, as long as we know who we are and why, she really doesn`t represent any kind of a threat to Jews or Judaism. If we don`t know, whose fault is that? Not hers. However, you do have to wonder why she says these sorts of things. Could it be because she loves the attention it gets her, not to mention the reactions from various people?
And if you look into the link you will see the full spectrum of viewpoints. Will Ann and her alleged faux pas cause a shift in the spectrum of Jewish viewpoints? Nah, this will be forgotten in a week, or less.
How to get the Jewish vote? Given them upward mobility especially along paths of merit and they will vote for you.
Now that is a really strange question. What make you think that I am angry about her for this reason? I am angry for the reasons I stated earlier and I stand by it.
It might be a pejorative to a Karaite Jew
What are the Jews doing now, Miss Coulter? Why is that even an issue right now? Aren’t we all having enough trouble with Islamofascists? Do we need to get into offending Jews?
As a Jew I think it is HORRIBLE what she said. Not that she believes it, but that she feels that saying this on TV for a reaction would somehow help ANYTHING (conservatism, her religion, you name it) or even have some kind of positive effect. It is getting altogether too “hip” to bash Jews.
To all my dear Christian fellow FReepers: We two basic religions of America (and I am not counting the liberals of either faith, LOL) feel the same on so many important issues relating to G-d. Let’s not start picking apart our differences as if it’s going to help anything. Jews do not need political correctness, but EVERYONE needs kindness and human sensitivity. Let’s stay together and focus on our strengths. Remember - when they come for us Jews, you’re next. We need each other.
There is no such thing as a perfect Christian, but as you know Jesus forgives your sins as far as the East is from the West. All you have to do is ask for his forgiveness. His forgiveness is so perfect that he does not even remember it unlike us humans. Do not let your sins stand in the way of your relationship with Jesus Christ. That is lies from the enemy.
Who was celebrated more, the Prodigal son or the Good son?

Why am I the recipient of this comment? Am I incapable of realizing Ann is not a minister?
. . . but our intrepid interviewer has no trouble lecturing Ann on being "tolerant" when she suggests that she actually believes the tenants of her religion and invites him to see for himself what its practice is like!
Historically, yes. Rose from the dead- sorry but no.
“some Christians who tell others they are “going to Hell” for some activity they engage in”
Truly, one must keep the dialectic of Law and gospel firmly before themselves. While the Law accuses and condemns, the application of the Gospel balm is what turns evil convictions such that the Spirit may work.
“The goal should be to win souls not to impress others on how well you can condemn others scripturally.”
While I would argue that we do not win but it is the Spirit who “wins souls” beyond anything we may say or do, we can rightly apply the full force of the Law (present judgement) such that the pagan may come to the realization that they have sinned and are in need of a messiah.
To be sure, we must know which battle needs to escalate and which can be won by by the application of the feather.
She was being very disingenuous with that invitation. It's not like she was saying, "My car is better than your car- come for a test drive and I'll show you."
Anne is a layperson (albeit a "priest" in traditional Calvinist thought ~ and she's a Calvinist ~ apparantly), but it would take a theologian to "modif(y).." her "laymanlike" assertion.
That's why I directed the message to you ~
Hope my description of a "mealy mouthed minister" didn't get you upset. Not all ministers are mealy mouthed.
Crucified, yes. Rose from the dead, no.
And ye shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free. John 8: 32
Because I know the truth about myself and that I need to make myself a good Christian first and foremost, I cannot and will not go on public TV and tell people from other religions that they need to convert to Christianity as Ann Coulter did.
That's rather Pauline ~
Are you Catholic?
There’s nothing to deny. Unless her mother was a Jew when Madonna was born or she converted to Judaism at some point in her life, she is not and has never been a Jew.
I realize that this is the polite way of saying that Christ is a false God, but it is still BS. The Christ in the Bible who, when asked by the High Priest if he was the living God answered 'I am!', whatever else he was was not a 'good man'.
If he is not God, but thought he was, he was crazy
If he is not God, and knew that he was not, he was a bad man
If he did not say it, the New Testament is not revealed truth
The only other possibility is that he was and is, God!
It would take a theologian?
Why should I get upset? You make no sense.
“Anne simply isn’t a mealy-mouthed theologically impotent mainline church minister.”
What are you talking about, ‘mealy-mouthed’? Is this a slam at ministers? I am not upset, you are confused. What this has to do with the discussion is a mystery to all but you I suppose.
While I am not a Jew, I am married to a Jewish woman who votes Democrat. From what I know from having Jewish friends and family is that they vote Democrat because they see the GOP as being married to the Christian Right. But yes, many vote Democrat because they live in the City but across America Jews vote Democrat at higher rates than African Americans, Mexican Americans or Muslims.
Really? I've never heard that one. The explanation I've heard is that because of the great pain it has caused Jewish families many years ago, it's prohibited for Jews to inflict that misery on others.
Either he is the Son of God or the biggest Fraud that walked the Earth. I believe he is the Lord.
There is nothing wrong with having this discussion in the public arena. I would not be offended if a Jew said just the opposite yet everyone is offended by Christians professing their Faith.
How do you really know anything about anyone unless you understand their core. I have a ton more respect for Ann professing her love of Jesus. Ann Rox!
