Ann Coulter Refers to Tabloid Report of John Edwards Affair; Will MSM Pursue Story?
Newsbusters ^ | 10/10/07 | Jason Aslinger

Posted on 10/10/2007 6:24:30 PM PDT by Kid Shelleen

Ann Coulter did her best to drop a bomb on the October 10 episode of "Tucker" on MSNBC. At the conclusion of her interview, Ann Coulter announced that the National Enquirer was just reporting that John Edwards had an 18-month affair while on the campaign trail. You can read the story here.

Before going any further, this allegation must be met with a healthy degree of skepticism. First of all, the story is originating from the National Enquirer, which in and of itself, raises questions as to the story's reliability. Secondly, Coulter had a notorious run-in earlier this year with Elizabeth Edwards on an MSNBC episode of "Harball." Coulter would have every motivation to repeat a salacious tabloid sex allegation about John Edwards.

even if the info about an affair is true, i shudder that anyone would use it with Eliz Edwards being ill. Miz Edwards turns me off, and i dislike her tactics, but i have to draw the line at torturing her with this kind of information about her husband. hope all will take the moral high road, Republicans and/or Democrats.

I call nonsense on your post. Because she has cancer she is beyond inclusion in the campaign? Bull. In fact, she seems to be doing more campaigning that John. I rarely hear reports of what John said or did today, but almost daily I hear something on the news about what Elizabeth did.

She has inserted herself into the campaign as the primary spokesman for the Edwards campaign and the campaigns #1 attack dog.

She is as fair game as any other participant.

Cancer or no cancer.

Didn’t she accuse him of being gay not that long ago?

No.

That’s it then. Man, this women is ruthless, how could she do this to Mrs. Edwards? Well, I hope karma catches up with her someday.

What? If the story is true, then it is 100% legitimate to mention, discuss, and promote the story.

And with Elizabeth being John's #1 spokesman and #1 attack dog, she if absolutely fair game.

I agree.

I was just stating that for Hillary’s attack machine (this is her tabloid paper), to do this deserves some karma right back at her.

No. Drudge broke it after it was spiked by Newsweek.

This is so typical of the ‘Rats.
I am already enjoying this story way too much.
The National Enquirer was reputable enough when they attacked Rush, so I expect this to pick up steam in the Lamestream...sarc.

Thx, I remember the Enquirer breaking something, maybe it was Hart’s Monkey business or something else.

Note to Mrs. Edwards: If this story ain't true, why the HECK aren't you screaming bloody murder?

I'm sure they'd rather keep this whole thing as quiet as possible and say, if asked, that they don't want to give any credibility to the rumor by reacting to it.

If a vicious rumor surfaces, the subject of it has two choices - keep it quiet and hope nobody notives or loudly voice denial and raise the visibility of the rumor.

If the story stays in the tabloid world, Edwards can probably ignore it and get away with it. If it works its way into the MSM, he may switch to a vocal denial or he may continue to stonewall the way the Clintons generally did.

I saw Anne yesterday on TV and she was NOT for Rudy. Are you saying today she changed her mind?

I guess that is what I am saying. On Hannity early in the week she argued with Shaun that it was to early to settle for Rudy. She said at the same time that Duncan was her guy.Same program she tells people, don't vote for Fred.

Next day on another program after the debate she says Rudy is looking pretty good..

The next day on MSNBC she is given the 3rd degree over this sudden support for Rudy. Contessa Brewer ? asks, you claim to be pro life how can you support Rudy....I actually agree with the MSNBC co host over Anne Coulter. I have never disagreed with Anne before.

First of all, the story is originating from the National Enquirer, which in and of itself, raises questions as to the story's reliability.

While the Enquirer likes to run with Bigfoot stories for the entertainment value, they are subject to the same libel laws as any other paper. I doubt their lawyers would allow them to run the story unless they had some evidence to back it

OK, thanks for the response—I just wondered. Since I like Anne and would never vote for Rudy—your comments surprised.
