I’m trying to understand how Giuliani can be at 27% when we hear so little from him.

I respect Rasmussen’s polling but wonder how many of these likely voters are Republican voters?

Post debate, Thompson should rebound. I think that what we are seeing in this poll is the effect of the unrelenting hammeirng Thompson was taking in the press and on TV.

I think enough people got a look at him in the debsaate to restore his credibility and we’ll see that in coming days. If not, I think it may be the end of the pavement for Fred.

Dr. Dobson effect. The Rasmussen poll is a rolling 4 day average. We are now seeing the effect of Dobson appearing on Hannity and Colmes. It is only a 5 point, I think Fred can rebound. But, I also think this race is really fluid and any of the top four could end up on top.

How can a man like McCain get 11%?

I don’t believe this poll.

Come on folks, let's be smart about this. Other common sense conservatives, like Ann Coulter, can see it. If you want to stop Rudy (and then Hillary), support Mitt Romney. He's the only one with the strategy, stamina and funds to do it. If we continue to split the conservative vote - Rudy wins.

ANN COULTER from the Glenn Beck interview:
I think the Republicans, we have a choice between Rudy Giuliani and Romney, and with Giuliani struggling to get to the right of Hillary on the social issues, I certainly have a preference there.

Ann is absolutely right. Rudy or Mitt. Pick one. The choice is clear to me and Ann.

From an earlier Hannity & Colmes..... Ann threw her support to Mitt Romney for President:

"When asked who she likes for President either McCain, Gulliani or Romney, she responded Romney twice. This appears to be the trend among most "common sense conservatives". They are recognizing that Mitt Romney is the only capable and qualified candidate for 1600 Pennsylvania Blvd. Mitt's positive vision is resonating with the Reagan generation."

And, we know what she thinks about Fred too. Ouch.

Hunter fans, I know she likes Duncan Hunter too. We all do.

I don’t get:

A-why Thompson has lost so much support and

B-who it’s going to, and why...

and

C-WHY PEOPLE LIKE RUDY SO DAMN MUCH!

Why even bother with a national poll at this point? Whats the polls look like in the states with early primarys?

You forgot to mention cut and run Paul’s numbers. I am sure they must be at at least 75%. (At least according to the paulie girls.)

I believe the Rasmussen poll results - and I'm not encouraged by them, although I realize that early polls don't carry a lot of weight. I'm another conservative who wonders where Giuliani's support is coming from, as he seems to embody the definition of RINO. I'll assume this poll is more about more name recognition than anything else and doesn't reflect the opinion of a majority of Republicans who actually vote in the primaries.

Fred Thompson's numbers are disappointing but I believe he has more support than this poll indicates. He still has mine, although I very much want to see Fred taking some unambiguous stands on the serious issues that concern most conservatives...and I want to see him do what Rudy Giuliani has been doing and criticize Hillary Clinton for her far-left ideology that the media glosses over or outright hides. If Fred can't rise to the occasion than he'll lose a lot of primary voters who would back him if he shows more determination and takes the tough stands any conservative has to take to be viable with the grass roots base.

Today, I would vote for Fred Thompson in a GOP primary. In 90 days, barring Fred declaring that he's a communist, I'll still vote for Thompson. If he loses and Romney or Giuliani is the Republican party presidential nominee, I'll very likely vote for that person over a Hillary Clinton. I refuse to 'stay home' and forfeit my right to vote.

However, if Giuliani is the GOP nominee, I fear that the Republican party is doomed on many levels. They may very well lose the '08 presidential election. Even if Giuliani wins, I'm quite sure he'll 'turn left' within a year of his election and we'll have a liberal, Democrat-Lite president, just a bit less of a full-blown socialist than Hillary Clinton. I hope I'm wrong. I really do.

I'm still trying to figure out the chart options in Excel 2007, but this is what I have so far using the Rasmussen data.

Rudy is about as high as he will get. The question is, who will be the Anti-Rudy?

Also, if it continues as is, we could go into a convention without a candidate who locked it up. Can you imagine trusting ‘the Party’ to pick a good candidate? There’s a reason I haven’t sent the Party any money in 10 years...
