You will recall in 2000 George Bush was depicted by the media and the Gore supporters as some kind of Hill-Billy from the sand dunes of West Texas, and look where it got him. All those Hill-Billys from the real hard working America turned out to vote for him. Theres an old saying among country folks, You can take the boy out of the country but you cant take the country out of the boy In spite of Yale and Harvard George still had a little of that brown stuff on his boots when he arrived in Washington. Hillary, Obama, Giuliani and McCain dont get it, theres such a thing as being to clever when dealing with the average American. Its not that the public doesnt get it its they cant see anything to get. Most of what theyre being spoon fed by the campaigners theyve heard a dozen or more times before. They may have bought it once theyre not buying it this time around.
There are dozens of platitudes to describe Fred Thompson. Simply put hes a country boy who learned how to play with the big boys in their sand box. Fred Thompson first came to the publics attention as the Senate Attorney who shut John Dean up in the Watergate Hearings. Hes since made a name for himself around Washington as a man of intellect and trust. The public knows him as an actor, a distinction thats often used to discredit politicians. Let me remind youll when a presidential candidate looks for money and media attention the first bus stop is Hollywood, actually theyre all actors some just better than others.
Jeri Thompson is about half country herself, she comes from Naperville, Illinois, thats not shanty town but its a ways down the road from affluent Park Ridge where Hillary comes from. Mrs. Thompson isnt that well known but I venture to guess we arent going to find any embezzlers or drug dealers in either Jeri of Freds family, [perhaps a Moonshiner or two but thats permissible in the South.] Fred Thompson may not be setting the Washingtonians on the edge of their chairs but you can bet hes catching on across America with the people who elect presidents. As long as his bus has gas and the wheels dont come off, by his plodding one town at a time crossing America Fred will get his message out and the public will know by looking him in the eye and not through a television or computer screen they can understand what you see is what to expect.
This may be one of the more critical elections in years. America is at a cross roads between a socialist oriented society and containing down the road of capitalism and free enterprise. Under a socialist system the government takes most of what you have and gives back a little. Under the capitalist system you give the government a small portion of what you have and keep the rest,
Fred Thompson understands this. Most of the countries who embraced communism and socialism in the 20th century have since rejected it, most of its functions have become archaic in this globalize economy and they are on the road to accepting the capitalist system of government. By their very nature governments are not profit centers and without profits growth is impossible. Individual incentive created this great nation. Its beyond comprehension why any politicians would want to change a system thats been so successful for over 200 years and provided such a wonderful lifestyle.
These days the public is more aware how political rip-offs influence their lives more than during previous national elections. The publics had the opportunity to see congress spend money like it was water flowing over Niagara Falls. Talk Radio Hosts, Conservative Cable TV pundits and Internet Bloggers are spreading the word, this country belongs to WE the People not the politicians, its our money their spending not theirs. Fred Thompson has an opportunity to sell conservatism back to the public, the voters are demanding accountability. What the mainstream media is peddling isnt what the public wants and as we come closer to the elections will demand more than empty rhetoric.
If Fred Thompson ignores traditional campaigning and goes directly to the public his message will be heard and understood. He may not still have the old Red Pick-up truck lets hope he still has what stood in the back campaigning for what won him a seat in congress.
Congress is out of control, this country needs a man of the people to represent the people. Washingtonians arent cutting it their stealing it.
Just the fact that 99% of the MSM’s attention tonight is on “How did Fred do?” shows he has more than a “chance” in this fight.
Fred needs energy? Isn’t that what Dobson said that got him into trouble with Freepers?
Watch out, byteback, for the demonization of what you said.
Of course he did.
He was the only one up there not acting!
:^)
***You honestly believe Fred Thompson won that debate??***
>> Fred said hed want Congressional approval first.
That’s not what I heard. As I recall his answer, the first thing he said was that he would *not* surrender the rights and perogatives of the executive branch (constitutional issue).
The second thing he said was (and I know I’m paraphrasing), all things being equal, it was better that Congress approve than not approve.
I know for a fact that he did not say he would need to ask Harry and Nancy for permission. That’s a bit of hyperbole, no?
I think if Thompson can sell these wares with a sense of optimism for the country, he will do just fine. I am a tiny cog in the Republican works in my city, and I can tell you people I meet (not necessarily party people, but the great unwashed - party people don't care who gets the nod; anyone with literature for drops will do) are desperate for such a person to move ahead in this campaign.
What the mainstream media is peddling isnt what the public wants and as we come closer to the elections will demand more than empty rhetoric.
I believe the MSM looks at Thompson with trepidation. I believe that is why these people are doing anything they can to derail him.
“You honestly believe Fred Thompson won that debate??”
Does anyone honestly believe that these are “debates” that can be “won”?
They are round robin Q@A with petty gotchyas thrown in.
Fred has them all outsmarted already. He was a little nervous, but he will explode in the next one.
Indexing benefits to inflation is stealthily bold - he is the only one of this group who could ever get away with such specificity on entitlements. The Matthews smackdown was even admired by Rudy, who couldn’t wipe the smile off his face during the next question.
Why Fred Has a Chance:
“No one asked you your opinion, Christopher.”
Leno just mentioned Fred and one person clapped.
So? At the debate, RON PAUL got the most applause. Which simply tells me WHO was at that debate in the audience.
Hint: They’re not GOP primary voters.
Well, kiss my grits, pal. Nice attempt to make Jeri look kinda like a hillbilly-ette from Hog Hollow, Naperville compared to Her Heinous who sprang from "exclusive" Park Ridge.
When I do my snow-birding from Florida, I live two towns over from Naperville ( a far west suburb of Chicago ). It's a sophisticated MIDDLE-WEST city of almost 100,000 strongly conservative, educated, work-ethic Republican souls.
It's been one of the fastest growing cities in Illinois.....home to stately houses, estates and parks, colleges, high-tech clean industry, a superior primary and secondary school system, home to countless Chicago business execs and millionaires, and real estate taxes not too many of us peasants could afford.
Hillary's town of Park Ridge has lovely areas, but doesn't come close to Naperville as an all-American city aspirant.
The per capita income in Hillaryville is $36,646.
In Jeri Thompson's Naperville the per capita income is $39,725.
Do reporters do ANY fact-checking any more, or do they just grab things out of the air to be cute or to make someone look tainted (like being a half-hick).
Don't worry, I know the answer to my rhetorical question. We all do).

Petronski is as much a psychopath as I am Britney Spears.
Not exactly. But it looks like if he felt it necessary to strike Iran, he’d be in favor of getting Congressional approval before doing anything...
>>>I don’t think anybody running for president should diminish the power of the office before he gets there and take side in a hypothetical dispute. But I would say that in any close call, you should go to Congress, whether it’s legally required or not. Because you’re going to need the American people and Congress will help you if
they’re voting for it or if they support it, or leaders, especially inthe opposite party, are convinced and looking at the evidence that this is the right thing to do, that will help you with the American people.<<<
Well, I didn’t watch the full debate but I’ve been watching a few clips and observing quotes from the debate itself.
From what I can tell a few things stood out.
Romney and Rudy’s fight.
Romney stating something about checking with his lawyers first, though I haven’t read the context of that.
Romney’s quip about law & Order, and Fred’s rebuttal about not being the best actor on stage.
Fred’s closing line about it starting to get boring without him being there.
And, Christipher getting smacked down.
I haven’t seen the whole debate, I haven’t watched most of it. But these are the items that I see popping up everywhere on blogs and TV.
Only two of these stand out to me. Romney checking with lawyers...I REALLY need to read the full transcript to see if it’s as bad as that sounds. And the Christipher smackdown. If Romney’s statement IS as bad as it sounds, it’s not the final nail in his coffin but it’s a self inflicted flesh wound.
No one cares about the Rudy/Romney fight.
Fred’s closing joke and the Romney/Thompson exchange added some levity but it’s forgettable.
That leaves “Christopher”. That’s what REPUBLICAN voters are going to take from this and remember. They hate the media, they love when the media gets smacked, and Thompson did so effectively. So, yeah, I’m going to say long term he won this round. I don’t know if it’ll show up in the polls, but his smackdown of Matthews is the main item folks will remember a couple months from now. It’s the main item that resonates in the GOP base.
I’d like to see a daily YouTube address from Fred, sort of a video version of Rush Limbaugh’s Morning Update.
If he runs out of material, he can always check out Fred Republic. Er, I mean, Free Republic.
