Republican Presidential Candidate Debate #8 Dearborn, Michigan 10/09/07 - Official Discussion Thread
CNBC/MSNBC/The Wall Street Journal are jointly sponsoring the first Republican Presidential debate of the 2008 campaign focusing on economic issues. It will be held on October 9 in Dearborn, Michigan at the University of Michigan-Dearborn at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Broadcast is live on CNBC at 4 PM ET (1 PM PT) and re-broadcast on MSNBC at 9 PM ET (6 PM PT). CNBC's Maria Bartiromo and MSNBC's Chris Matthews will host the debate.
Candidates participating:
Based on your post history, Fred could walk in looking like Tom Cruse and speaking like Ronald Reagan and you would still trash him...

Yeah I had 1 post about Fred over a month ago. Wow. He still is dull as dirt.
Mitt, just stop it already, you’re embarrassing us...
“When do they go up against Hillary in a debate? Anybody know?”
After the primaries, I suppose ;-).
Boy, I can see it now...
Hillary, lit in soft-focus, dressed in pink, maybe the a subtle halo around her head, with his microphone filtered through a de-shrillifier.
The Republican Candidate will be lit from below (in the 5 shots he’ll be shown in) to resemble Satan as much as possible. The background will be solid red (even though that really should be Hillary’s color, all things considered). The questions will ALL be along the lines of:
(To Hillary): What do you have to say about your opponent wanting to starve children, screw the unemployed, and murder minorities?
(To Republican): How do you justify wanting to starve children, screw the unemployed, and murder minorities... and don’t bother to deny it!
This might be too painful to watch.
He and Rudy won’t stop talking about Hillary....
they know their only chance is to convince us that they are the only ones that can beat Hillary....
I am so over and beyond the “boogeyman” politics.....
That a nice slogan but what are the principals Rep Tancredo thinks we should be sticking to? You will get a vastly different answer depending on who you ask that of. Rep Tancredo needs to specify what exactly his principals are
No disrespect to the FRedHeads here, but I agree with your analysis here...
GO HUNTER !
Romney is hitting it out of the ballpark, you see it but just refuse to see it.
Thompson sounding a little weak on SS. No specific steps except PAs. He is suggesting linking COLAs to inflation. The real problem is that SS is structurally unsound. It is a pay as you go system. Starting in 2017, SS will be paying out more than it is taking in. Congress will have to do something. When this happened in 1983, they raised taxes and reduced benefits [including raising the retirement age for full benefits to 67]. It was supposed to solve the problem for 70 years. It didn’t. It is worse now. Th 1983 fix will last just 34 years. Kicking the can down the road again will just make the problem worse.
This is actually a good debate. It is the first one I have bothered to watch. Most of the candidates are doing a pretty good job and the NBC-WSJ leftists are not really skewing the debate. I do not like or support McCain but he has even done well. I feel the same about Romney but he has done well.Giuliani is being very arrogant by always injecting Hillary into every answer, he cannot answer a question directly, he tries to be too clever by putting his spin on every answer. Thompson has not tried to win the debate or impress anybody and that naturalness has helped him.
Like I said since my IQ is greater than 90. I sure don’t belong with this brain washed lot.
Mitt is exactly right on healthcare. We need to deal with the issue in a Republican way. If we ignore the issue Hillary will win.
That is soooo unfair!
Fred had not realized until the last minute that we would be having another presidential election in 2008.
Not someone LIKE RP. RP as RP himself. But, he has a following on FR.
I dont want to run your personel lives, I dont want to run the economy, I dont want to run the affairs of other nations. Maybe I should cut my pay check in half when I get to Washington because there wouldnt be much for me to do.
-Ron Paul (Nashville TN)
David honey you opinion might just be a BIT biased, hmm?
Another personal attack. Pathetic. Go watch the debate.
I am just LOVING Romney in this debate (so far ;-) )
No, he just wants more government.
Who? The rinos?
We are in total agreement... We must work are way out of this mess and stop sending billions of dollars to the middle east!
