McCartney-Wonder Hit Tops UK Worst Duets List

UNDATED -- The Paul McCartney-Stevie Wonder hit "Ebony and Ivory" tops a new list of the worst duets.

BBC Radio Six conducted the poll, seeking listeners' views on the collaborations they like the most -- and least. The 1982 tune is one of two tracks the former Beatle has in the top 10 worst list. "The Girl Is Mine," his duet with Michael Jackson, has the No. 6 spot. Elton John and David Bowie also have two collaborations on the worst list.

Elton's "Live 8" performance of "Children of the Revolution" with British rocker Pete Doherty is coming in at No. 7, while his version of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" with George Michael takes the No. 9 spot.

I'm the odd woman out on this issue. I'm probably the only person I know (around my age) who never liked the Beatles. I was too busy listenin' to real music (Stones, Doors, Floyd, Yes, Led Zep, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke, Jerry Lee Lewis, et cetera back then. ;o)

Stevie wonder was good when he was younger. Had an amazing voice, IMO. Kinda faded after a while, though.

Hard to make that call -- it was an era filled with horrible duets. Babs Striesand and Kris Kristofferson. Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams. Rod Stewart and Dolly Parton.....

Macca gets too much blame for his sappy material. Lennon had a weakness for sentimental English Music Hall pabalum as well. All the visionary qualities of the Beatles music (eccentric arrangements, production and song suites) were mostly MAcca and George Martin. Lennon just wanted straight ahead rock and reverted to it after the Beatles broke up (”It’s So Hard” )

When you have a fan base that thinks all music begins and ends with the Beatles catalog, you can put anything on a record knowing it will be gobbled up...and then defended to the end.

Everybody has different tastes, of course, but I don't know how you can call the music by the other artists you reference "real music" as compared to that of the Beatles when (i) the Beatles drew heavily from half of those on the list (Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis) and influenced heavily the other half (Yes, Doors, Floyd).

Speaking of duets, have you heard the song, Gone Gone Gone by Robert Plant and Allison Krause? Talk about an unseemly duet, I have heard a couple of tracks from the new CD and it rocks. I would have never paired the two of them but it works...

It was good, but looking back, it was the weakest song on the album, and unfortunately he has tried to remake that song many times since. But the rest of it is a pure masterpiece. "Too High" is probably the best anti-drug song ever.

I can actually do without ‘Visions’ and ‘All is Fair In Love’ neither are among his best ballads. I prefer Fullingness First Finale.
