WND: How would you like to direct the campaign?
Cox: I have a lot of things to say, and I have a record of business success as a chief executive. I've been very involved in my community. I've been very involved in the Republican Party, and I didn't seek to be included in these debates by the major networks without doing some work myself. I started 18 months ago, traveling all throughout every single county in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire, speaking to Republican groups, visiting small towns, talking to Rotary and Kiwanis and all these other kinds of organizations, really gaining a measure of what Americans believe and what they want changed in Washington. I think I touched a chord there and I spent about a million and a half dollars of my own money doing this. But they've [media] just chosen to cover who they want to cover. If you want an issue to cover I think that's the first issue that really the American people need to address is whether they're willing to continue to just have celebrities and career politicians and political families like the Bushes and the Clintons as their representatives or are they going to reach out and get some people who have some substance from the business sector and from the real world to help out with the problems in Washington.

I’ve met Mr. Cox. He’s a great guy. I just wish he would run for something he would have a chance at winning. He could be a strong Congressional candidate, I think.
Just keep on telling us about him. He is worth a serious look.
WHO?
Sorry, Phil. Cox just disqualified himself from my book with this statement. He should be apologizing to his mother and other mothers of his day (like mine) who loved their children from the moment of conception.
I would like to hear more about Cox. I find that the media-darling candidates are pretty much liberals in drag (Julianne even more in drag...LOL).
I know Cox has done well in straw polls in some states, so I am surprised he has not received more attention
Ping! I suspect you two can have some lulz with this one.
Actually Perfect_Rovian_Storm sold me on Cox some time ago. He’s my third string twice removed back-up to my reserve candidate...
Good point, Cletus! Cox was well intentioned, but he just put is foot in his mouth.
I have his campaign slogan:
John Cox 2008: Because Duncan Hunter isn’t Obscure Enough.
Oh please go away Mr Cox!
ROTFLMAO!
It’s quite possible he and his mother have discussed this. She may well have told him that very thing. Doesn’t mean she loves him any less...but at the time she could’ve been young and unaware of things.
Perhaps Cox should try and get elected Governor or Senator first before making a presidential vanity run. Pretty soon plumbers and dog catchers are going to announce exploratory committees for president.
In 2000, Cox ran for the U.S. House, in Illinois’ 10th District, which had republican congressmen for at least the previous 30 years. The primary had 11 candidates, and he was fifth, with 9%. The primary winner was Mark Kirk. He won the general elections in 2000, ‘02, ‘04, and ‘06. He’s my congressman, and I don’t know why he’s a Republican, since he’s pro-choice, anti-Iraq surge, pro-illegal alien, pro-gun control, and pro-gay marriage.
In 2002, Cox ran for the U.S. Senate. The primary had three candidates, and he was third, with 23%. He says that he won’t run for a statewide office again, since he’s too hard for a conservative to win, in Illinois. In 2004, Sen. Kerry received 57%, in IL, and U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama received 71%.
It's likely this is a non-starter.
You should have heard of John Cox. He gave a speech during the Iowa Straw Poll and received votes there. In July, he
was interviewed by Tucker Carlson, on MSNBC. In June, in the Straw Poll of Linn Co., Iowa, the second-most populous county in that state, he received twice as many votes as McCain and Guiliani, combined. In May, an article about him was posted on the website of U.S. News & World Report.

I guess he figures the 270 electoral college votes will be easier to come by.
Cox2008
There's a slogan Larry Craig can get out in front of.
Cox ran for U.S. House and U.S. Senate. Please read post # 15. He was also the president of the Cook Co., IL, GOP for a year.
