All told, 78 percent in this ABC News Good Morning America poll say they often or sometimes come into contact with people in this country who speak mainly Spanish rather than English including 55 percent who encounter it often.
I’m surprised the number isn’t higher. I run into multiple Spanish speakers every single day.
Like the busboys who brought me my chicken wings tonight at the sportsbar?
Um....and?
78% often or sometimes?
Does the ATM machine, or the automated phone system really count???
Where I live, find it hilarious how much bilingual stuff there is, because there can’t be more than 3 or 5% that are Spanish first or only here in the Tacoma area.
Now on the other hand, illiterate people probably be far more than that, yet I don’t see any hyroglyphics, or whatever you spell that, as an option...
Call me 1%
¿Qué?
Every time that I have a choice of either going to Home Depot versus Lowes,
I’ll pick Home Depot!
It totally pisses me off that every single sign, everywhere in the Lowe’s store, has to be in both English and Spanish!
Every friggin sign, whether it’s to locate a cash register, or to have you remember that you can wipe yourself with free toiletpaper, is in spanish!
Frig-em, and I told the local manager the same - but it’s corporate policy; even here in Rhode Island, where everyone speaks Portugese if not English!
okay.
43 items in the Express Line that bothers me!
LOL. I don’t care whom or who they are, more than the expressed limit is an aggravation on top of wanting to write a check or us an atm in a CASH ONLY lane.
Yea, I know, we all need to lighten up.
Press 2 for English - thank you, Jorge Arbusto.
PROTIP: Lot’s of contractors hire Mexicans, who often shop at Lowe’s when they need more 2x4’s, roofing nails, or whatever.
Yeah, the little (as in child) contact I had last year flipped me the bird. I was totally impressed with his bilingual communication abilities.
“Often”? You’re joking. How about every 5 minutes of every day.
“Yea, I know, we all need to lighten up.”
No we don’t, we need to insist that the language of this country is English and that if you move here, you learn to read, write and speak English.
I’m sick of “Press 1 for English”. It should be press 8,957,098,642 for frigging Spanish or take a hike. Back over the border.
Why don’t all the packages of screws or lightbulbs at Lowe’s also have Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, French, German, Tagalog, Russian, Gaelic, Italian, etc., etc., etc. on every package also?
Why don’t all the stinking illegal aliens and criminals learn English? The Germans and Italians, etc. that legally immigrated here did. It was a point of pride with them to do so. The Mexicans don’t give a damn. They’re just using America as an ATM and a toilet, then it’s back to glorious, corrupt, POS Mexico.
I thought we were supposed to have enforced “multiculturism” on everything. How about every language of the world on every pack of gum, screws, cereal, can of beans, etc.?
Try living in France, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Russia or Italy for a length of time without learning their languages.
People who are bothered by interactions with Spanish speakers are decidedly
more negative about immigration policy.
Oh, I get it now. I'm a racist for not having contact with Spanish speakers.
Yo tengo contacto con hispano-hablantes todos los dias.
