WASHINGTON, DC, October 3, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Homosexual acts are immoral and have no place in the US military says the United States' most senior military chief, General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
In March Pace, a Catholic who is to retire this week, raised a storm of controversy when he told the Chicago Tribune in an interview, "I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts." The general said his views stemmed from his personal upbringing where he was taught that some types of behaviour are immoral.
He did not believe "the United States is well-served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way."
Reiterating this position last Wednesday, Pace, said at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing in Washington that he had been misquoted in the press in his original comments this spring. While anti-war protesters sitting in the committee chamber jeered and called him a "bigot," Pace clarified his position saying that while it was a fact that there are "wonderful Americans who happen to be homosexual serving in the military" he wanted to be very "precise".
"That we should respect those who want to serve the nation but not through the law of the land, condone activity that, in my upbringing, is counter to God's law."
Pace said he would be "very willing and able and supportive" to changes in policy "to continue to allow the homosexual community to contribute to the nation without condoning what I believe to be activity - whether it to be heterosexual or homosexual - that in my upbringing is not right."
Pace's comments this spring resulted in a backlash from homosexual activists and support from the Catholic Archbishop of Denver, Charles Chaput, who said he deserved respect for telling the truth in the face of heavy opposition.
"Note that Pace did not say that, 'homosexual persons are evil,'" the Archbishop wrote. "He said that homosexual acts are wrong. And of course he's right. We might question the general's choice to comment in the context he did, but not his content. He simply stated the Western moral tradition. We should respect his courage for saying it."
In a speech on Monday, President Bush praised Pace thanking him for his key role in planning the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, calling him one of "the most respected and accomplished military leader I have ever known" and noted his "resolve and guidance during difficult times".

The Supreme Count legalized homosexuality in 2003:

SUPREME COURT STRIKES DOWN TEXAS SODOMY LAW
In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court struck down Thursday a Texas law making homosexual sex illegal, ruling that the ban unconstitutionally infringed on privacy rights.
Works for me!
cool...a real man!
The democrats may call Peter Pace a “bigot,” but I would like to call him Senator, or Mr. President.
Hope he runs for high office.
We should not condone it in our Laws, but neither should we denounce it.
The only exception is military Laws (UCMJ), in which it should absolutely be forbidden.
canidate = candidate
I wonder what Larry Craig’s stance is on all of this...
(sorry I couldn’t resist.)
“President Pace”
I like it!
:^)
I salute Gen. Peter Pace. I agree with him. Sadly our godless Government No longer lauds the more distinguished
character of Christian—as Gen. George Washington expected of the distinguished Patriots he led. Indeed since we quit
the cold war we tossed out policy that promoted the founding principlesand now the Christian SOldier is no longer an ideal our godless government desires to be
associated with.
And Lawrence v. Texas is an invalid decision. It lacks any
Constitutional /legal merit. It is a promotion of modern myth and a construct of an errant and godless oligarchy of despots.
Same as Roe v Wade.
I wonder if the General’s remarks are a warning from the military to the pols?

Very true -When the principles in a legal dispute turn and take legal action to overturn or have some legal separation -yet the Courts refuse to revisit it smells worse than a dead skunk under the bathroom when the
pipes clog up.
General Pace is a Good man and a good Leader.
A few Fridays ago, he paid a Visit to HQ USSOUTHCOM on his Fairwell tour. (Gen Pace was SOUTHCOM CDR a few years back)
He related to us a few anecdotes and provided encouragement. He also made a joke about the Gays in the military comment.
In closing he offered to shake each of our hands and give each of us a CJCS coin. There were about 1500 of us present.
A finer man I have not had the privelege of serving under.
