Some Muslim medical students are refusing to attend lectures or answer exam questions on alcohol-related or sexually transmitted diseases because they claim it offends their religious beliefs.
Some trainee doctors say learning to treat the diseases conflicts with their faith, which states that Muslims should not drink alcohol and rejects sexual promiscuity.
A small number of Muslim medical students have even refused to treat patients of the opposite sex. One male student was prepared to fail his final exams rather than carry out a basic examination of a female patient.
The religious objections by students have been confirmed by the British Medical Association (BMA) and General Medical Council (GMC), which both stressed that they did not approve of such actions.
It will intensify the debate sparked last week by the disclosure that Sainsburys is permitting Muslim checkout operators to refuse to handle customers alcohol purchases on religious grounds. It means other members of staff have to be called over to scan in wine and beer for them at the till.
Critics, including many Islamic scholars, see the concessions as a step too far, and say Muslims are reneging on their professional responsibilities.
This weekend, however, it emerged that Sainsburys is also allowing its Muslim pharmacists to refuse to sell the morning-after pill to customers. At a Sainsburys store in Nottingham, a pharmacist named Ahmed declined to provide the pill to a female reporter posing as a customer. A colleague explained to her that Ahmed did not sell the pill for ethical reasons. Boots also permits pharmacists to refuse to sell the pill on ethical grounds.
The BMA said it had received reports of Muslim students who did not want to learn anything about alcohol or the effects of overconsumption. They are so opposed to the consumption of it they dont want to learn anything about it, said a spokesman.
The GMC said it had received requests for guidance over whether students could omit parts of the medical curriculum and yet still be allowed to graduate. Professor Peter Rubin, chairman of the GMCs education committee, said: Examples have included a refusal to see patients who are affected by diseases caused by alcohol or sexual activity, or a refusal to examine patients of a particular gender.
He added that prejudicing treatment on the grounds of patients gender or their responsibility for their condition would run counter to the most basic principles of ethical medical practice.
Shazia Ovaisi, a GP in north London, said one of her male Muslim contemporaries at medical school failed to complete his training because he refused to examine a woman patient as part of his final exams.
He was academically gifted, one of the best students, but gradually he got in with certain Islamic groups and started to become more radical, said Ovaisi.
You could see there was a change in his personality as time went by. During the final exams he was supposed to treat a female patient in hospital. He refused to do it, even though it would have been a very basic examination, nothing intrusive.
But he refused and as a result he failed his exams. I was quite shocked and disappointed about it because I dont see there being anything in our religion that prohibits us from examining male and female patients.
Both the Muslim Council of Britain and Muslim Doctors and Dentist Association said they were aware of students opting out but did not support them.
Dr Abdul Majid Katme, of the Islamic Medical Association, said: To learn about alcohol, to learn about sexually transmitted disease, to learn about abortion, it gives us more evidence to campaign against it. There is a difference between learning and practising.
It is obligatory for Muslim doctors and students to learn about everything. The prophet said, Learn about witchcraft, but dont practise it.
Although goats, camels and chickens have long been revered in muslim 'culture' for their 'vivacious childbearing hips' and 'comely dispositions', whenever there is any form of conflict within an interpersonal relationship it's always the female who is wrong and stoned to death in the village square.
If it is determined that the 'interaction' is with a male goat, camel or rooster (perhaps it took place in one of the popular homo-bestiality clubs in Medina) then both parties will be officially absolved of any wrongdoing, as homosexuality and all variants are nonexistent according to the pronouncements of a recent spokes 'person' of islam.....
Since they don't regard women as human to begin with, and infidel women to be even lower than muzzie women, I'm sure that they don't consider it to be anything more than a 'minor amusement'.
Is rape not considered to be sexual promiscuity?
Rape does not exist in muslim 'culture' because rape is a crime, and the vicitim needs to be human for a crime to have transpired.
Perhaps diseased women should be provided as bait for Muslim men - whose disease would be untreatable in Islam - since it is against Islam to contract sexually transmitted diseases.
An excellent plan.
Are infidel women still considered as "uncovered meat" as once described by a "pious" Muslim cleric?
Since all of the bleatings of muslim 'clerics' are taken as the word of Allah, I would imagine that any of their prehistoric belches are still revered and will be for as long as there is a muzzie who draws breath.
Pious Muslims should be banned from the practice of medicine in the entire Western World....
No non-Muslim patient should be placed at risk with a Muslim doctor who can choose which diseases he will treat..
Agreed. It's insanity to even consider this.
You won’t have a choice when your dumped off in a E.R., on a ventilator, after a wreck.
Yahh right. England will bend over for this just like they do whenever a muslim bitches about something.
I’m sure all british hospitals will now be ordered to stop treating alcohol or STD issues so muslims will not be offended.
Nothing like sticking by your beliefs in times of tribulation.
Small wonder that doctors of Middle Eastern origin seem to have serious problems building a practice. But not to worry, they have a larger and larger pool of their own countrymen from which to draw patients.
I just wonder how not treating women goes along with the hippocratic oath ?
To Muslim male doctors, treating female humans, even Muslim females, is veterinary medicine.
And obviously, they are better than that. That is womens’ work.
Almost as stupid as arguing against an immunization because the disease can only be contracted as a result of immoral behavior.
It seems that the 'do no harm' part of the Doctor's Oath has been relegated to the dustbin of history after the acceptance of the murder of children ("abortion") as being 'just another procedure' and so making other 'ethical' choices is quite easy....such as not treating women, not treating Jews, not treating Buddhists, etc. etc. and all such such choices will eventually be approved by the Government as a nod to 'multiculturalism'.
Also, since the Word of Allah (may pestilence and decay be upon his name) supersedes all oaths given to infidels, any oath, promise or pledge given by a muslim to a medical school or any Governmental agency is meaningless and done only in order to get the diploma.
Welcome to Free Republic :-)
Yet this is a perspective that will be embraced by a growing cadre of muslim 'doctors' and eventually supported as in compliance with practice and law by the Government on the grounds that it serves the 'cultural' needs of an 'oppressed' population.
Welcome to Hell.
“”Yahh right. England will bend over for this just like they do whenever a muslim bitches about something.””
Really? What proof have you got for your statements?? I live in England. My life has not in any way been disturbed by any muslim demands or b!itching.
“”Im sure all british hospitals will now be ordered to stop treating alcohol or STD issues so muslims will not be offended.””
How much would you like to bet on that? LOL. Care to put your money where your mouth is.......I mean if you are so ‘sure’ that is?????
That locks it - - never, ever be treated by a Muslim physician.
In an emergency and you need help a doctor like this would be able to refuse to treat you based on the idea you are a woman, smoke, drink, etc. Could you imagine the chaos a doctor like this in an ER will cause?
Think about these folks in a hospital setting...sue ‘em, flunk ‘em. They are seat warmers in medical school and other students who have more respect for the profession got bumped to accommodate these radicals.
The patient died of complications from religious reasons. It is jihadi murder.
On another line of thinking...these folks are now trained to treat their jihadi brothers on the battle field.
Every demand is a step down that slippery slope. Soon the public will be used to the notion that Muslims are exempt from all sorts of things, so that when they demand sharia, it will be allowed — as it is in parts of Canada. Then it’s honor killings, stonings, the entire panoply of ninth century ignorance, violence, and stupidity. There goes western civilization, with barely a whimper.
Damn! I never really had to take Calculus after all!!!
After you examine the list of things they won’t do....its obvious that the only work they would be qualified for....for your local animal vet. I think we could always use more vets....even if they were Jihad boys. But it seems...if they want to continue down this path...they need to pack up and move to Pakistan. There is no place for a doctor like this in the western world.
I’m sure that the silly-ass practitioners of PC will pass them anyway and let them become doctors. Anyone who objects to being treated by a member of the cult of death will be called racist and jailed.

My recommendation:
1. Flunk them out.
2. Deport them back to their sandboxes.
3. If they're British citizens, tell them to LIGHTEN UP already!
I wonder if they'll treat people for SJS?
Nor do I, but I pray you never “accident”ly get one. It happened to me, and all I can say is that I was not very politically correct.
