I have been following the Republican candidates for President. I am not impressed, overall. May people ahve their favorites, of course, but there is no passion for any of them. There is always "He is great!....but". Usually in the social area. Today my favorite, Fred Thompson ducked the Washington Press corps. I thought "Big deal. He wasn't going to get a fair shake from these folks." Then I got to thinking (always dangerous) WWRD(What Would Ronnie Do?). He would take the bull by the horns and gave a question and answer session that would have changed minds an made front pages. He was the "Great Communicator" Our curren president would not be in so much trouble if he would communicat more often. You dont have to be great.
But Ronnie was.
He was the best with quick quips "There He Goes Again!" was a favorite of mine. He was honest and sincere. He spoke from the heart and you knew it. He went toe to toe wiht the 'evil empire' and they blink, then imploded!
I like Fred, will send him money. But he isn't Ronald Reagan. No matter how much I wish he was. No one is. I sure do miss him. And John Wayne... but he deserves his own tread!
Fact he was an average actor who didnt serve his country but stayed safe and sound at home making films when the real heros were overesas getting shot at.
John Wayne had 3 kids and as a matter of fact tried joining.
He was rejected by his draft board. No strings pulled.
Get your ducks in a row before making an ass of yourself.
I agree completely except I don’t give Thompson a pass. He is not passionate about anything! I will vote for and give money to whoever wins the nomination but I will have to hold my nose for whoever it is. Anything to keep HER out, but I don’t have to like it.
And Rooty would not be the person to say “you are nothing but a tin star with a drunk pinned on it”
Principle counts.
John he was born May 26, 1907, making him 38 at the outbreak of hostilities - with a family.
After France fell in 1940, Congress enacted a pre-war (sometimes called peacetime) draft; conscriptees only had to serve one year. In 1941, by a one vote margin in the House, Congress extended the one-year draft. After Pearl Harbor, Congress extended the draft to men age 18-38 (at one point, 18-45). I would note the married men were not drafted after age 35.
I would also note that Wayne applied to the U.S. Naval Academy, (1924 or 25, I’m not sure) but was not accepted.
Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status, classified as 3-A (family deferment).
As for him being an average actor - I’ll leave that up to you. I’ve known him to be a likeable and considerate man.
Duncan Hunter, proven fearless leader. He would have faced the press corp, and he would impressed all present with the manner in which he did. He has the moxie, and the arsenal of experience, but he also has a wonderful quality of making friends where ever he goes. He gets things done and not an enemy in Congress on either side of the aisle! GO DUNCAN HUNTER!
I found it on the internet. There is a copy on my home page. Help yourself.
There is a copy on my homepage at the end.
I didn’t create it.
“Uh, “John Wayne” was an actor who played characters. They weren’t REAL.
We’ll do better sticking to actual people.”
No offense, but are you a complete moron or a total idiot? John Wayne WAS a real person. You need to read some biographies on John Wayne — one of the great social conservatives of the last century. He was an inspiration to Ronald Reagan and helped Ron discover the conservatism that was growing within himself even while Ron was still a democrat.
Read this, written by Ron Reagan about John Wayne.

Yeah - Reagan was a much better actor.
Thompson’s taken a page right out of the Gipper’s playbook. Ronald Reagan stood up the Washington press all often. It got to where they pursued him, which they will eventually do with the next President of the United States, Fred Thompson. I think it’s a Hollywood thing.
I liked Fort Apache as much as the next guy, but c'mon!
Thank you. That was a great read!
John Wayne was real.
Ronald Regan was real.
It is not the movies these men made that inspired. It is the lives they led and the way they fought for right in a period of so many wrongs.
If we are in deep do-do, it is for a want fo such men today that we are.
2. The sociopolitical climate that produced Reagan is GONE and is not coming back.
3. John Wayne was just an actor.
