A Mormon in the Oval Office?
Washington Post ^ | October 4, 2007 | Robert Novak

Posted on 10/04/2007 9:40:06 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.

Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

We sure do eat our own the force of darkness sure do roam these threads.

It reminds one of an encounter with road rage only now it is freeper rage!

Yes, everyone is frustrated with our options. Ever since the Republicans lost the last election, the level of discourse has plummeted.

Instead of getting together and leading, we have been reduced to squabbling among ourselves. The knife from a brother always hurts worse than from your opponent.

Salvation is a thing that is worked out on one’s knees in prayer and in repentence

Salvation...according to my bible...isn't anyway, shape or form...something that is "worked out".

Mormonism adherents at FR have tried to cite Philippians 2:12 to support their belief in 'after all that they can do Grace sets in and salvation can be had'.

Philippians 2:12&13

So that, my beloved, as ye always obey, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, with fear and trembling your own salvation work out,

for God it is who is working in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure. (Young’s Literal Translation)

This is not to be read as the believer is doing his own salvation. Notice that the passage says ‘for it is God IN YOU’ working, thus the presence of the God of the Creation of this universe is in you to will and to do the saving. The other key is what Paul implies with ‘not as in my presence only’ … they would fear his wrath if he were present among them and they failed to submit their wills to God’s transforming. If they would have proper fear with Paul there, they need to realize that GOD is there, within them! Thus Paul calls us to have the proper fear of the Lord that is warranted, such that we maintain our will bowing to Him within you, to transform as you submit the flesh for daily crucifixion of the adam nature.

You have a cheering squad of one, restornu. Good luck with that.

And if you have a proof based on QM of the non-existence of God, I’m sure there are quite a few string and multiverse theorists who would love to beat the intellectual crap out of you. I like my odds of being on the right side of that debate.

Hey restornu, Legrande is an apostate JackMormon atheist. You have often called those people devils. I’m waiting for you to apply your same good nature to LeGrande.

That is a very feeble attempt at a straw man.

Off subject, but using the word straw:

Watch out at restaurants this fall season, for some have placed displays with strawbales and other dried out foliage right next to their outside smoking areas!

At the Bob Evans® in Greenfield, IN the butt receptacle is sitting between a bale and the resting bench!!

With your failure above to demonstrate the existence of God, it is only reasonable to conclude that your belief in God is irrational. Hence you are irrational.

Then wouldn't the invesre be true as well???

With your failure above to demonstrate the NON-existence of God, it is only reasonable to conclude that your NON-belief in God is irrational. Hence, as an Atheist, you are irrational.

I will prove my case but first we need to define God. Do you believe God is omniscient and omnipotent?

I have no problem at all going up against the string theorists much less the multiverse people. They have no experimental evidence to support their position and they don't expect to get any either.

LOL Heisenbergs uncertainty principle clearly proves that an omniscient being can't exist. Hence anyone who believes in an omniscient being is irrational.

Well of course you are right. And that is why I hold in zero respect some of the views of certain posters, who seem to invariably leave out options every time they post to me, all the while claiming how stupid I am. I mean, Elsie, you have just pointed out a hole big enough to drive a truck through.

My, your hubris knows no end. You have just blown away any pretentions I might have had to being a pompous ass.

You have just written off the entire cutting edge of physics and the most brilliant minds because you apparently know something they don’t. Well, good luck with that one buckaroo.

You are a couple of years behind the times. The string theorists are going nowhere and they are starting to realize that now. The leading edge has moved on.

I take it by your failure to answer my questions and continue our discussion that you are conceding defeat. That is probably for the best, I have no wish to kick you when you are down.

“LOL Heisenbergs uncertainty principle clearly proves that an omniscient being can’t exist. Hence anyone who believes in an omniscient being is irrational.”

Heisenberg proves no such thing. The uncertainty principle discusses the inability to describe both the location and momentum of a particle to an arbitrary position, requiring a probabalistic view of information in general. However Heisenberg says next to nothing at the macroscopic to cosmic level, nor at the sub Planck distance level, so if you are trying to say God can’t be omnicient, it’s like a big so what. Even humans make statistical predictions everyday that are infallibly accurate.

If I tell you I will drop a brick on your head once a minute until the Heisenberg uncertainty principle kicks in and makes me miss, I suspect you will respect even this humble human’s omnicience.
