A Mormon in the Oval Office?
Washington Post ^ | October 4, 2007 | Robert Novak

Posted on 10/04/2007 9:40:06 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.

Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

Not so. Ephesians 2:20 is Paul speaking to the church AFTER Christ was resurrected and ascended. He SPECIFICALLY specifies the foundation of apostles and prophets, with Christ as the chief cornerstone. Why would he say there were even needed after Christ left if your premise is correct?

You misread, dear heart.

I didn’t say I was “going away”.

I DID say I won’t bash you with juvenile insults, like you are wont to do.

I liked it better when I thought you were going away.

Go away.

What principle would that be?

The function of specific personal prophecy for Paul was a fact we read about in the Acts (he is told he will go to Rome, will meet scourgings, ect.). That form of prophecy is still valid even today, the personal prophesies. What form of prophecy is not valid today --because in the past God spoke the things of Messiah coming, redeeming, transforming, etc.-- via prophets of old, but He tells us in Hebrews 1 that now He speaks through His son, Jesus, and thus the written word of Him is the replacement for any more prophesies of doctrine and covenant. To claim that Smith was given 'new' doctrine and covenant is to contradict yet another thing the Word of God teaches us about how God speaks to His in these 'latter days', the days since the resurrection.

I’m keeping my eye on the prize. I’m not going anywhere. I’m waiting so I can watch Romney lose the primary.

I firmly believe the 2008 election is going to be one of the most entertaining, ever. And the grass-roots efforts are going to seal the deal this time.

Another one of your fantasies. There is NO scripture that says that. Interesting how you are the only one "adding" scripture here. Why don't you just stick to the text instead of adding your drivel.

You rely only on what they provide?

We weren’t discussing what I rely on in general. We were discussing how to test Greg F.’s accusation. And we weren’t discussing topics in general. We were discussing whether I am familiar with objective Mormon history. If he can come up with a list of books and it is objective Mormon history, I believe some library will have it. If it is in no library, probably it is not objective history. It is not a perfect test, but it will do.

That is not a religion. It is a denomination of a religion with thousands upon thousands of different denominations.

Did that denomination make you so hateful, virulent and viscous or did you come to the church like that?

Maybe someday your Church could help you find some peace and come to terms with your place in determining the fitness of other Churches and/or the disposition of the souls other than your own.

Now... spending hour after hour trying to defend one prophet after another is futile.

Are you senile? When have I ever defended one prophet after another? I am an Atheist : ) What I occasionally like to do is point out the lies and the distortions that the members of your cabal like to spew :) I win when they are reduced to cursing me. I wonder how many posts it will take before you run away, or curse me?

Where do you get that much energy to stay that frustrated with pent up anger? Do you ever take a break to just let your soul BREATHE?

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black, do you know what projection is? LOL

So how do I relieve my pent up anger? I must have some, but I hadn't really noticed. I feed apples to the deer. I go soaring. I chase my wife around the house. I help a neighbor save his business. I play Go. Pretty much the usual boring routine. I wish it would hurry up and snow so that I can go skiing. Nothing beats hiking up the mountain with a friend or someone I love and then making a fresh powder run. Sometimes I feel sorry for people who are too busy arguing over minutiae to ever experience life.

So what do you do to lighten up your miserable, pathetic existence? Don't you ever get tired of begging your God for relief from the toils and tribulations that he puts you through? The hardest chains to escape are the self imposed ones.

Evangelicals will never vote a Mormon for any office..

I'm an Evangelical conservative Christian.

I would rather support a Mormon who holds 95% of my conservative values than a self-proclaimed 'mainstream' Christian (Guliani) who holds practically NONE of my conservative values.

Like I've said before, do those who hate Mormons also hate Jews, or Jehovah's Witness', or non-sectarian Budhist monks? (all non-Christians)

It wasn't that long ago that Southern Baptists and other Protestants distrusted Catholics, and claimed they would never ever vote for a Catholic for President.

I love my Savior Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father for sending His Son to save me.

And especially for sending Moroni to Joseph Smith so that I can now have the RESTORED GOSPEL!!

It wasn’t that long ago that conservative Baptists and other Protestant denominations considered CATHOLICS to be a cult of sorts.

Please, just get over the Mormon thing.

Do you also completely forbid the idea of Jew being US President?

After all, Jews reject nearly all of the beliefs of New Testament Christianity.
