As more than a dozen universities and colleges across the country have done, the school is looking to install foot baths for ritualistic cleansing in a new Islamic center proposed for its more-than-1,500 Muslim students.
While a home for the center has yet to be secured, NYU is in talks with the Archdiocese of New York about buying its building at 238 Thompson St., where the student Catholic and Islamic centers are currently housed.
In a bathroom there by the Muslim prayer room - as well as in more-visible university bathrooms - Muslim students wash before each of five daily prayers, a task they precariously conclude by rinsing their feet in hip-high sinks.
Although students haven't been clamoring for foot baths, according to leaders and members of NYU's Muslim community, they would prefer them to standard sinks where washing leads to wet floors, dirty conditions and, at times, uncomfortable moments.
Graduate student Tahir Saeed, here from England, said he would welcome foot baths - as simple as a spigot and drain in the corner - like the ones he used as an undergraduate student at the University of London.
Imam Khalid Latif, the 24-year-old chaplain of the Islamic Center at NYU, suggested that securing a new home for the group was more important than planning what amenities it might have. He was also more concerned with expanding halal food options for Muslims at the central student dining hall.
But in an ideal situation, he acknowledged, "Would it be nice? Yeah, it would."
Non-Muslim students interviewed at the campus suggested yesterday that even if foot baths were installed in a public place like the student library, they would not likely create a stir on the liberal campus.

What should happen is the Islamist 'rituals' should be confined to the Islamist center and not be a public project. Let them fund their own footbaths. Now, if NYU is going to allow the baths and not any other religion to pray or worship in public, they should have all Federal funds pulled.

This is a pretty long process. How do they get to class on time?
The Islamic purification ritual, known in Arabic as “wudu,” involves a 10-step process, which includes:
1. Praising Allah while washing both hands up to the wrist three times, making sure that the water reaches between fingers and under rings.
2. Rinsing out the mouth thoroughly three times, using the right hand (the one not used for cleaning private parts) to bring the water to the mouth.
3. Snorting water into the nostrils from the right hand, three times, to cleanse them of demons that Muslims believe reside there, clearing the passages of any mucous using the left hand.
4. Washing off the tip of the nose with the left hand.
5. Washing the entire face three times from right ear to left ear.
6. Continuing to wash from forehead to throat.
7. Washing the right arm and then the left arm, three times, from the wrist up to the elbow, removing watches.
8. Moving wetted palms over the head from the top of the forehead to the back of the head.
9. Passing the wetted tips of the fingers into the grooves and holes of both ears, and also passing the wetted thumbs behind the ears and ear lobes.
10. Finally, washing both feet to the ankles starting with the right foot, including between the toes, then reciting: “Ash-hadu an la ilaha illal lahu wa ashhadu anna Muammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh” – meaning there is no god but Allah and he has no partners, and Muhammad is his servant and messenger.
I guess they will be amending class times for the group who want to cut off our heads with a dull knife.

I really want to know where all the footbaths are in Iraq. I am doubtful they wash their feet so many times a day. If they do how come the gas station restrooms don’t have them? hmmm I guess they use the urinals lmao
