Flag of Mexico Flown Illegally Over Reno Business

This afternoon we received a call from a viewer who said a business near downtown Reno was flying a Mexican flag above an American flag... which is in fact illegal.

This, after photos and comments about the flag were posted on Craigslist this morning. When we were able to have a photographer go and check everything out we found the story to be true.

It also didn t take long before the situation provoked a strong reaction. We are now going to show you , unedited, what happened. Click on the video to see what happened.

It is not “illegal” to violate the code (4 U.S.C. 1) that specifies how to fly the flag.

It is a set of rules that applies to government agencies, although it it considered the standard for all flag etiquette.

Yes, if this were a federal government office flying the flag this way, there might be a small fine for the miscreant.

A great American took the flags down. He carried the American flag away and left the mexican flag laying on the sidewalk.

While the filming is going on, an older guy with a long white beard stomps over to the flags and brings them down. He then cuts them both off and leaves the Mexican flag on the ground. He gives his name and say he used a knife he got while in th Army....that he’s not giving up his country without a fight...and that he’s not giving back the flag (which he secures under his arm) back without a fight.

Any person who, in any manner, for exhibition or display, puts or causes to be placed any inscription, design, device, symbol, portrait, name, advertisement, words, character, marks or notice, or sets or places any goods, wares and merchandise whatever upon any flag or ensign of the United States, or state flag of this State, or ensign, evidently purporting to be either of the flags or ensign, or who in any manner appends, annexes, or affixes to any such flag or ensign any inscription, design, device, symbol, portrait, name, advertisement, words, marks, notice or token whatever, or who displays or exhibits or causes to be displayed or exhibited any flag or ensign, evidently purporting to be either of the flags, upon which shall in any manner be put, attached, annexed or affixed any inscription, design, device, symbol, portrait, name, advertisement, words, marks, notice or token whatever, or who publicly or willfully mutilates, tramples upon, or who tears down or willfully and maliciously removes while owned by others, or defames, slanders, or speaks evilly or in a contemptuous manner of or otherwise defaces or defiles any of the flags, or ensign, which are public or private property, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.

2. This section shall not apply to flags or ensigns the property of or used in the service of the United States or of this State, upon which inscriptions, names of actions, words, marks or symbols are placed pursuant to law or authorized regulations.

Wow, a vet on a mission walks up, lowers the flags, cuts loose the American flag, drops the Mexican flag on the sidewalk, goes to the news camera and states his name, says he’s not giving the flag back and marches off with it. Brave man!

The U.S. Flag was being flown BELOW the Mexican flag. A U.S. Army vet with a bayonet knife lowered the two flags, cut them loose and took the American flag with him, leaving the Mexican rag (flag) on the sidewalk.

He commented to the effect that this is HIS Country, and he won't allow it's flag to be desecrated and will FIGHT anyone who wants to argue about it.
