Rush Limbaugh, phony soldiers, and the Left’s desperate need for its own “Betray Us” moment
Michelle Malkin ^ | September 30, 2007 | Michelle Malkin

Update: Moonbats continue to push to kick Rush off the Armed Forces Network. More here.

*** So, word is that the Democrats will introduce a House resolution Monday condemning Rush Limbaugh for his remarks about phony soldiers. Brian Maloney points out that ABC News aired a report on phony soldiers and Operation Stolen Valor two days before Rush made his remarks. Asks Maloney: “Given the overwhelming evidence to support Limbaugh’s contention that he really was talking about phony soldiers who have faked their service, how does the left justify continuing this fabrication?”

Here is what this phony fiasco is really all about: It’s about the MoveOn.org Democrats trying to save face in the aftermath of the disastrous “General Betray Us” smear. They want their own moment of righteous (or rather, lefteous) indignation, their own empty proof that they really, really, really do support the troops. They want to shift attention away from MoveOn.org, its bully tactics, and its thug brethren at Media Matters. They are making a pathetic attempt to equate the “Betray Us” attack–which was deliberately timed for publication and maximum p.r. damage to our military command when the world was watching our top general in Iraq testifying in Congress–with a radio talk show host’s ruminations about anti-war soldiers who have faked their military records/history.

Bottom-of-the-barrel desperation.

I have written and reported extensively on the Winter Soldier Syndrome phenomenon...Winter Soldier Syndrome will only be cured when the costs of slandering the troops outweigh the benefits. Exposing Scott Thomas Beauchamp and his brethren matters because the truth matters. The honor of the military matters. The credibility of the media matters. Think it doesn’t make a difference? Imagine where Sen. John Kerry would be now if the Internet had been around in 1971.

Instead of confronting the problem, MoveOn.org/MediaMatters Democrats are preparing to shoot the messenger.

The reported sponsor of the resolution is Democrat Rep. Mark Udall. He’s running for Senate in Colorado. Yes, he’s trying to win a Senate seat by running against Rush Limbaugh. been drafted for that purpose.

Like the “Betray Us” ad, this, too, will ultimately backfire.

As my post yesterday ...underscored, the unhinged Left is beginning to alienate its own base with its any-means-necessary tactics. You can only shoot yourself in the foot so many times…

Glenn Reynolds spells it out: “…the intent is to limit the ability of people like Limbaugh or O’Reilly to drive stories in the mainstream news as we get closer to the election. Expect more of this, with more targets.”

Yes. In other words: A backdoor restoration of the Fairness Doctrine.

“Democrats will introduce a House resolution Monday condemning Rush Limbaugh”

What idiots!

Man, that would elevate this to a whole new level and man I really would look forward to this being discussed everywhere.

Let’s hope they really are that incredibly stupid.

I heard the broadcast when Rush said those words. There was absolutely no way anybody could have misunderstood what he was talking about. Take the words out of context and do not allow the rest of the conversation to be aired under any circumstances and then you manufacture a scandal. This will blow up in their faces again, big time, when the rest of the conversation is heard by all...............

It is only proper that John Kerry, who falsified his own war record, and lied about others’ war conduct, should stick up for Jesse Al-Zaid.

After All, Al-Zaid can’t stick up for himself. ... he’s in prison - for falsifying his war record and making up lies about his comrade’s conduct....

Meanwhile, Harry Reid opened the senate today by stating that he has a letter. The letter condemns Rush Limbaugh's comments against the troops & he's hoping that the Republicans will sign it...

Prayers for strength for Rush as he fights this phoney battle with the liberals out to silence the truth on the airways!!
He’s the front line right now! If we aren’t careful, the blogs and places like FR will be outlawed too!! :*(

“Democrats will introduce a House resolution Monday condemning Rush Limbaugh for his remarks”

The very idea of using Congress to regulate political speech shows an entirely new attitude towards free speech by the Democrats. If they gain control of the Presidency as well as Congress, criticism will become more and more dangerous. The atmosphere of ideological terrorism that dominates university campuses will prevail every where. I have no doubt that the FR will place high on their hit list, as will we all.

MoveOn, having shot itself in the foot with the ‘Betrayus’ ad is now getting ready to unload the other barrel on its remaining foot.

The Democrats are committing treason by supporting Jesse Macbeth with this resolution (they are refusing to acknowledge that there ARE phony soldiers lying about the Iraq war and their own “involvement” in it).

The dems are so childish. They supported the moveon add so now they have to shout, “oh yah, well you did it too!!!” by fabricating statements.

This is a fight that must be won. Media Matters must be exposed to everyone and anyone who will listen.

I don’t think this will do his Senate campaign any good. He is a hard-core Leftist trying to pose as a moderate in order to get himself elected to the Senate from Colorado. Aligning himself with MoveOn.org and the liars are media matters blows his cover big time.

As I said last week, Media Matters has been smearing and lying about conservatives for years. Just as Rush says that Republicans should counter every lie, this is one time HE has to do it as well; I know his usual stance is to say “it doesn’t bother me, I won’t give them the satisfaction,” but this is different. This is more than taking someone simply out of context - this is fabricating lies WITH MALICE. Rush’s attorneys should file suit in the appropriate court for slander, libel and punitive damages against Media Matters and all those broadcasters who simply parroted their mantra without checking the facts.

THe unabashed support the leftists are giving Al-Zaid is another attempt by them to use an unimpeachable mouthpiece for hating America, our troops and all things conservative.
