ABC Lumps 'Christian Right' With 9-11 Terrorists as Driving People to Atheism

Editor's Note: ABC News broadcast the item equating Christians with 9-11 terrorists in being responsible for driving people to atheism. Mark Finkelstein wrote the article at NewsBusters CRITICIZING ABC. Please address your comments accordingly.

ABC may have set a loathsome new MSM low in insulting traditional Christians. On today's "Good Morning America," the network lumped the "Christan right" with the 9-11 Islamic terrorists as driving people to atheism.

Keying off an atheists convention being held this weekend, GMA ran a segment on the "Rise in Atheism." Seeking to explain the phenomenon, as images rolled first of the WTC in flames and then of a man placidly holding a sign that simply read "One Nation Under God" and of a display at a demonstration of the Ten Commandments, ABC's Liz Marlantes stated:

Some are reacting to religious extremism, like the Islamic fundamentalism behind the terrorist attacks of 9-11, but also the rise of the Christian right in the U.S.

So there it is. To ABC, traditional Christians are as responsible for making people doubt God as the 9-11 terrorists. People peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights by displaying the Ten Commandments or a sign containing an excerpt from the Pledge of Allegiance as faith-shattering as terrorists who murder thousands by flying airplanes into buildings.

Does MSM anti-Christian bias get any worse than this? ABC owes an apology.

NOTE: In making the case that atheism is growing, Marantes mentioned that "Congress now has its first self-proclaimed atheist." But while displaying his image [shown here], ABC didn't in any way identify him. He is Pete Stark (D-Calif.)

And when we sin against our brother, we still owe him an apology. Our relationship with God isn’t based upon that action, but upon our turning back to Him and confessing any miising of the mark through faith in Christ.

The same is true for the atheist, who still owes an apology when they miss the mark by being unjust to their fellow man, and they also may have a relationship with God, by simply turning to Him, and placing any such miss of the mark in His hands, allowing Him to handle the situation by His methods, again through faith in the Son of God who created them.

Who can take these clowns seriously, when they twists everything that is NOT according to their liberal template???

Just see how they made fools of themselves running with the lies and spreading it around every where about Rush Limbaugh's statement of ONE soldier (Jesse MacBeth). Put excrement in front of a liberal and he will step in it with both feet every time!!!

There is a rise in atheism because pop culture, controlled my the Leftist media elite, is hostile towards Christianity.

The media elite target young people because they are the easiest to influence. In such an environment it would be impossible for atheism to not be on the rise.

To blame Christians for the rise in atheism, excuse me but that is just a laughable joke. This is a clear case of the guilty blaming the victim.

You are exactly right. Leftist, secular, humanist, social engineering. A good example of this is the recent CNN special "God's Warrior's" by Christiane Amanpour. "God's Warrior's" was a total farce of moral relativism, comparing Christians and Jews to radical Islamists. That's the new meme - all religion is "dangerous".

Secular humanists, many of whom are atheists, have been spouting the same drivel for years. Religion is inherently "bad" and causes all the wars, limits people's "freedoms", blah, blah, blah. That's really what's being drilled into young people's minds in myriad ways.

Become an "enlightened, intellectual, atheist" kids, and you too can justify any or all of your behaviours. After all, it's all about you./s

I honestly do not see the Christmas tree as a Religious symbol, and there are a couple of reasons for that: A) The tree was a Pagan symbol to help ease the Heathens into Christianity, B) Christmas has become so commercialized that it hardly resembles anything religious unless you put out a nativity scene.

With the "Under God", it seems like such a simple compromise to not say it if you don't want to.

I don't get bothered by the typical Christian, because from the many Christians I know I get a "Live and Let Live" type of attitude that doesn't feel like anything is forced, it doens't feel like I'm being placed under attack. The type of Christian that bothers me is the one who tries to get rid of Halloween in the schools, who goes outside of High Schools with pictures of Aborted Babies, the one who tells children they are going to hell because they like "Harry Potter". That seems like they are forcing their beliefs onto others, and that is what I disagree with.

First thing that came to mind.

Inter-racial marriages were outlawed for many years due to religious reasoning.

If my wife were to be raped, some are seeking to make sure she could not obtain Plan B.

If I was in a coma, I’d be kept that way, even if I had no hope of recovery.

This meme of the "growth" of religious conservatives makes me puke. This country was 95% Christian until the late 1960s, so just the opposite is what has been happening. Even so, people who believe in God still number 85% or more.

Only since the 1948 the liberals have been minting "rights" to anyone of any stripe. Only since the early 90s have they elevated the logical impossibility of "multiculturalism", and only in the last 15 years have they purposely used immigration patterns to try to destroy American traditions and traditional Americans.

You are under attack from the world, the flesh, and the devil 24/7. I don't hear you complaining about that.

"Christianity is the only faith which promotes life"

Thanks for the tip. I'll alert everyone at my temple so we can tell all the other Jews that our faith doesn't promote life. Thanks again for the revelation, oh brilliant one. (sarc off)

...and Jesus' view, and the disciples' view, and the Church's view ever since. I don't think you should complain against them either.

That is your interpretation of their writings. Why are there so many different Christian denominations? Because they all have their own interpretation of the Bible. Yours is but one and I'm sure you are sure that yours is the "right one".

I’d say it’s a combination of two things: I the Church not truely preaching the world to people these days (not everyone, but a good portion does not)

2)Liberal Athiestic culture indocrtination and manipulation of people.

Probably more..but these are the major,..IMO.

That’s becuase it’s not just a theory it WAS forced upon (you) and I..(culturally), and it’s pathetic and sick, really I WOULD expect Parents-even non Christians to STAND up and say “wait..you can’t teach that to my child, or you can’t force me and my children to believe THAT!)”..But society has gone collectively ~INSANE~ it seems..

These people are just trying to find a rational way to reject God and keep a smile on about it. They’re complaining about Islamofascism and the so called “religious right” when in reality they’re saying in their hearts, “I'm an atheist/homosexual/pagan, ergo, I reject God.” The gospel is knocking on the door of their hearts and they won’t let it in. They would rather just sin and grin.
