Mexican Couple Facing Federal Charges On Transporting Chinese Aliens (in TN)

A Mexican couple is facing federal charges in Chattanooga after their vehicle filled with seven Chinese aliens was stopped.

Venancio Perez-Martinez and Clara Rodriguez-Anaya were arrested after their red Dodge Durango was stopped on Sept. 20 on northbound I-75 in Bradley County for a traffic violation.

Officer Andy Radcliffe said he noticed several passengers in the car who appeared to be of Asian descent. He said Perez-Martinez claimed they were relatives of his wife and they were going to New York to visit other relatives.

The officer asked how they could be related "being the subjects are Asian and they are Hispanic."

But Ms. Rodriguez-Anaya said they were not her relatives, and she didn't know them. The officer said, despite the wife's statement, Perez-Martinez "remained adamant in his claim."

Authorities said they then learned that Perez-Martinez had been arrested on March 16, 1996, in Brookhaven, Miss., and charged with transporting 10 undocumented Mexican nationals to Houston.

Officials said Perez-Martinez finally admitted he was transporting the Chinese from Houston to New York for $400 per person. He said he had been contacted by what he believed to be either a Cuban or Puerto Rican man and asked if he would bring the Chinese to New York. He said he picked them up at a Houston hotel. He said he was given a phone number to call when he arrived in New York, and he would then be instructed where to take the Chinese.

My guess that they will get less time than if they had been transporting cigs from a neighboring state.

My guess is that your guess is right. Transporting cigs cheats the government out of tax revenue. Transporting illegal aliens merely cheats the taxpaying and law-abiding middle class.

the arresting officer(s) must have skipped ‘sensitivity training’ to not believe the couple....when it was said, “we are related”. An officer having graduated from ‘sensitivity training’ would have said, “sure, be on your way”

I got an idea.

If it is not illegal for an illegal to "be in the United States", according to Rudy Giuliani, how about a Duncan Hunter-Tom Tancredo introduce and others in the House of Representatives to introduce a bill ASAP that would MAKE IT A FEDERAL CRIME FOR A RESIDENT ALIEN IN THE US WITHOUT THE PROPERT RESIDENCE STATUS TO CROSS FROM ONE STATE TO ANOTHER, I.E. ACROSS STATE BORDERS. This would mean either a legal alien resident or legal tourist would have no problem. Others would, however, be in deep trouble.

We already have federal crimes against transporting weapons over state lines and also kidnapping across state lines, so it CAN be done on a federal level.

Illegals would essentially be prevented from going initially from California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas to the other 46 US states. Furthermore, if an illegal moved from Virginia to New York for example to get a drivers license, or to Connecticut to get an idea, they would also have violated a FEDERAL LAW.

As Federal Law breakers, they could be more easily rounded up or deported when detained.

I would bet with the current atmosphere in the USA, such new federal legislation could indeed pass. It would have strong support at least from many in states outside of the four border states.
