Fred Thompson has pulled to within 8 points of Mitt Romney in Iowa, and now occupies 2nd place alone in a new poll out by Newsweek. Below are the numbers from the Newsweek poll taken Sept. 26-27.

Perhaps just as significant as Fred's strong move up, is another set of figures from the Newsweek poll. They asked respondents just how strong they supported their candidate. Here are the numbers for Fred, Mitt, and Rudy, with"Strong" listed first followed by "Not Strong/Lean". . . . .

So long as that vote does not give us a Rudy v Hillary “choice.”

Where is the choice with those two in the runoff?

“Where is the choice with those two in the runoff?”

Hence the “ on either side of the word, choice.

My candidate, Ron Paul, has rejected that kind of nonsense.

Too bad the majority of his supporters haven't.

I guess that’s your attempt at being clever.

Gosh, Mitt’s been in forever, and along comes Fred. Maybe all of Mitt’s money isn’t going to buy him the nomination, after all.

Oooh! Yes! Fred, please play in Iowa. I would to see him put all his chips on Iowa with a full force of effort and still get beat! I was afraid he was going to skip it.

And one more thing, James Dobson’s organization is much stronger in Iowan than South Carolina. It should be interesting to see what happens.

Great news that Senator Fred Thompson is doing so well in Iowa, Florida, Georgia, South & North Carolina, etc. So sad that a truther peacecreep kook like Rep. Ron Paul is polling better than Rep. Duncan Hunter. Time for the Hunterites to join the Fredheads and unite to elect a viable conservative, IMO. Hopefully President Thompson will appoint Mr. Hunter to Defense, Homeland Security, FEMA, Veterans Affairs or some other appropriate post. Perhaps he can make Ron Paul ambassador to Antarctica.

That is true, but Iowans, like New Hampshirites, don’t like to be told who to vote for by anybody! That may balance it out. Also, I think Dr. Dobson was planning on supporting a Newt run for the White House, and the wheels came off of that bus today.

By his “organization” I assume you are refering to Focus on the Family?

Yeah, FOTF has distanced themselves from dobson’s opinion and said it was his alone. yes, there are many that give Dobson’s opinion weight. But it doesn’t appear he’ll be able to use FOTF at this time to target Thompson.

Yep, Newt decision puts Dobson in a bind. Does he go with Huckabee? Which would put Iowa in play for the Huckster. Or does he go with Romney which would mean he would be ridiculed for being religously tolerant.

Captain Kirk - you may recall Cyrano Jones quote while arguing the price of Tribbles: “Twice nothing is still nothing.”

The harder the anti-Frederalists attack him, the more Thompson moves up in the polls.

God, I love it!
