RENO, Nev Federal agents raided 11 McDonald's restaurants in northern Nevada and made dozens of arrests Thursday as part of an investigation into illegal immigration.
Agents for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made at least 56 arrests in Reno, Sparks and Fernley after raids at the restaurants and a franchise corporate headquarters in Reno, agency spokesman Richard Rocha said.
"They are people suspected of being in the country illegally. As far as I know, they were all McDonald's employees," he told The Associated Press.
The investigation began five months ago and was sparked by an identity theft complaint, Rocha said. A local law enforcement agency then gave ICE information that illegal immigrants were working at specific McDonald's restaurants, he said.
Luther Mack, who owns at least some of the restaurants that were raided, insisted that his businesses require employees to provide documentation.
"As an employer, I do not knowingly hire or employ undocumented or unauthorized workers," Mack said in a statement.

The raids drew immediate criticism from Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and activists, who estimated the number of arrests to be closer to 100.

"We don't approve of the Gestapo methods ICE is using," said Gilbert Cortez, a Latino leader who urged Hispanic workers to stay home from work in protest Friday.
Cashell, a Republican and former lieutenant governor, said that if identity theft was involved, that was wrong, and that he opposed a protest that would keep workers at home on Friday.
He said he would contact Nevada's congressional delegation and ask the city council to look into the raids. He said that he opposes illegal immigration, as well as immunity for illegal immigrants, but that "there has to be a better way to do this."

Upon reflection, if I.C.E. really had any cojones, though, they would pay a visit to THE CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS OF McDONALDS and go after some of the gated community BIG WIGS who make the 6 figures, not some loser assistant shift manager flunkies in flyover America making $20,000 a year who basically hired cheap Mexican/C.A. labor as they were instructed from on-high.
For ONCE I would like to see the shackles and handcuffs on some of the empty suits who thought they were clever by cutting labor costs to raise their perks and stock options, and screwing American workers, teenagers looking for summer jobs, and average American consumers everywhere who simply want their English to be understood when placing what would hopefully be comprehended orders. This is a massive, nationwide, structural problem. Do I have a witness?

It wasn’t on the radio, it was on the huge sign that McDonalds, has in front of their restaraunts. It is at the McDonalds on North Druid Hill and Lawrenceville Hwy.
I started working down in Buckhead about 5 months ago, I take N.Druid Hills to Buford Hwy. You would be hard pressed to find ANY non-hispanics in that area. They have this community bus service, it’s not MARTA, the buses are smaller and orange, they must cater exclusively to the spanish because everything on the bus is in spanish except for the DOT info on the back.
You know, we all need to head on over to the Latino American Association down on Buford Hwy, you know they offer FREE spanish lessons. /s
Same thing with a large KFC banner, in Spanish only, in rural Virginia. Why on earth does an employer think it's good for business to hire non-English speakers to perform customer service in an English-speaking country? We've witnessed numerous times a counter person struggling to translate our order into Spanish so the sandwich-makers could fill it. And they still get it wrong.
We witnessed numerous health violations at DQ, too, that had about a dozen Spanish-speakers chattering away in the back while they assembled food orders. No rubber gloves, wiping hands on the back of filthy jeans and going back to making sandwiches, picking noses, dropping items on the floor and picking them back up, sneezing and wiping noses with hands, even one cook lifting up his shirt and rubbing his bare hands on his bare belly. None of whom washed their hands after these incidents we witnesses in the five minutes we were waiting for our order. My sons, who had just come from wrestling practice and were famished, threw their bags, drinks and ice cream treats straight into the trash. I immediately wrote a letter to the Health Department and cc: the manager of the DQ. Nobody ever responded. But we will never eat there again, and I spread the word to everybody I know.
Our "never again" list includes the local Mexican food diner, KFC, McDonald's, Buger King, Dairy Queen, Subway and Taco Bell (duh). Praying illegals don't invade Panera Bread....
This might be true. For $125 supposedly you can get a complete (high quality forged) documentation package including Ga driver's license, ss card and "green" card if you go to the right spot on Buford Highway in Doraville. Probably similar in Nevada.
The owners complaint that he doesn't knowingly hire undocumenteds is a useful fiction on his part. I'm guessing that he's gotten the usual letter from the IRS that several of his SS numbers don't match.

My son plays travel baseball, we have traveled to all four corners of the state of Georgia and all points in between. I tell you, the hispanics have taken over towns all over the state. So much loitering it is disgusting and disconcerting. We’re moving to the Walton/Oconee county area, when you you’re out there you still feel like your in America, for now at least.
You know, I admit, I was awfully sheltered before I started working outside of my immediate area. Just the other morning I stopped at QT on Sidney Marcus Blvd. Right behind it is a Home Depot, I had never seen really how the whole day labor thing worked. Anyway, this poor man in a pickup had to stop at a stop sign, I could not believe the way they converged on his truck, and then they chased him. At no point did he make any jester at all that he was looking for workers. He merely stopped at a stop sign. I swear there were at least 10 of them, with their hands all over his truck.
Don't try that here in Dallas. You will starve or get to be a pretty good cook. We are talking ALL of them. McD's, Wendies, BK, JackintheBox, Arbies, LongJohnSilverfish, Golden Coral, Pizza Hut, Whattaburger, Pizza Inn, KFC, Churches Chicken, Popeyes Chicken, IHOP, etc etc, ALL of the restaurants, car washes, convenience stores, gas stations BANKS, grocery stores, shopping malls, furniture stores, mechanic shops, buddy... we are talking everything-everywhere. EVERYTHING. We are up to our eyeballs in the grinning little bastards and there are more, LOTS more coming across the Texas border every day.
If we could get rid of them the unemployment for real American Citizens would drop to ZERO. You could get a job by walking down the street from your house and saying "here I am, what do you want me to do?"
As far as McD's we have the crappiest service and worst food from them I have ever had. The owner is Luther Mack and he is well...connected. I was laughing my a$$ yesterday at the story. Of course our gasbag Mayor Cashell who is a big crook and former casino owner is wringing his hands and whining because the law was being enforced. He also "rushed to the scene" of the third aircraft accident two weeks ago at the Air Races like he could do something.
We will see how many protest today and how long it lasts. FWIW if they can prove Mack knew of the status of these people he could actually do time but I doubt it.

I just don’t eat fast food, and I’m reluctant to eat at restaurants, too.
I work in the food industry. They (the restaurant crowd) have been throwing the idea around of paying for English lessons for their (illegal) employees, for one reason:
They do not understand the health issues, like washing your hands before touching food. They can’t read the signs about it. They (the restaurant owners) have taken to posting instructions on how to prepare and keep food in Spanish so there’s no spoilage - it’s a serious issue. If you can’t communicate with the worker (who’s sullen and resentful of the gringo owners and chefs and managers anyway), how can you tell them “meat left out goes bad”? The worker’s attitude is, “I don’t get paid enough to care”.
I’m just not interested in eating food these illegals prepare anymore, it’s too risky. I see too many people get sick from restaurant food these days to bother. I don’t want to eat food that was prepared by someone who doesnt know that you have to wash your hands after using the restroom.
And we’re not even talking about intentional sabatage of your food, by sullen illegals.
