One Giant Step for Goatherder

Iran’s “president” announced Monday that there are no homosexuals in Iran. Barney Frank said further *research* is needed.

Ahmadinejad is holding American hostages, shelling the Kurds and killing Americans in Iraq, exporting arms and munitions to Hezbollah, denies the Holocaust, denies he denies the Holocaust and says he wants Jews and Israel wiped off the map, so he gets invited to speak at Columbia University, as if already there weren’t enough nuts loose on campus who should be tasered. Liberals could hardly wait to hear from this “leader” who sounds so much like Dennis Kucinich.

Despite the pressure mounting over the weekend to cancel the invite, I knew his visit to Columbia was a shoo-in when it was reported that Ahmadinejad “prepared” for the trip by having a “military parade” in Tehran featuring trailers painted with signs saying “Down with Israel!” and “Down with the U.S.!” and other slogans popular with Columbia faculty.

As part of his charm offensive, Ahmadinejad stood before a banner that said “Death to America!” just before leaving Iran.

Ahmading-a-ling’s visit to Columbia Monday was a sort of consolation prize for poor libbies, who — despite their best efforts in the Senate all last week — failed to get America to surrender in Iraq, even after running their brilliant “General Betray Us” ad in the New York Times, which backfired.

Liberals constantly attack America as a horrible tyranny and police state, but for 24 hrs (on Monday) we were all supposed to feel better about America because a university had a psycho tyrant from a police state speak on campus. It’s such a beautiful thing!

Before speaking at Columbia, Ahmadinejad expressed shock in a speech (via satellite) to the National Press Club that his request to visit Ground Zero was denied, saying all he wanted to do was lay a wreath at the site to “pay his respects” to all the victims of 9/11, not just the hijackers. (Or, as libbies and Ahmadinejad insist, all the victims of Cheney’s Inside Job.)

Columbia University President Lee Bollinger, who promised to be really, really super-duper tough after being criticized for lending the school’s prestige to a madman, introduced Ahmadinejad with this: “Mr. President (take that!), you exhibit all the signs of being a petty and cruel dictator” (and that!). Sinking his teeth into Ahmadinejad even further, Bollinger told him that he looks “brazenly provocative or extraordinarily uneducated” (TAKE THAT!). With Ahmadinejad quaking in his bloodstained shoes, Professor Bollinger then went for the jugular: “When you come to a place like this it makes you simply ridiculous.”

After fully recovering from laughing so hard, I noticed the rousing applause from students — for Ahmadinejad. Ahmadinejad said beastly Israel is treating Palestinians beastily (APPLAUSE!), that Palestinians are in lousy shape because of Israeli helicopters (APPLAUSE!), that America can’t preach because America has capital punishment too (APPLAUSE!), that freedom of speech exists in Iran, that Iran is a free country and there are no homosexuals left in Iran, not one — at which point angry students rushed the stage in protest and . . . Oops! Wrong event.

As for Midgetman Ahmadinejad’s opening lecture, it was hard to make out — even the translator had trouble translating it from its original German.

Speaking of which, Columbia honcho John Coatsworth in an interview sought to assuage concerns that the university is having a double-standard in hosting Ahmadinejad, a racist, Jew-hating, genocide-lover, by noting that they would also have invited Hitler, a racist, Jew-hating, genocide-lover.

“If (Hitler) were willing to engage in a debate and a discussion and to be challenged by Columbia students and faculty, we would certainly invite him,” said Coatsworth, but only before Hitler invaded Poland, not after, since Hitler would’ve been too busy by then — busy doing the work of the German people!

If I understand this right, Bollinger justifies hosting Ahmadinejad on the grounds that he finds his views disgusting and therefore it’s culturally enriching for students to be in the presence of Ahmadinejad and exposed to disgusting views and because it’s a great opportunity for students to learn about world affairs and learn about . . . Ahmadinejad — this obscure, platform-deprived, little known figure who has no access to hundreds of microphones everywhere he goes.

Agreeing with Bollinger’s absurd logic, “student leaders” said in a statement that “in a university setting, no view is too disreputable to be excluded.” Columbia must be the center of academic freedom! A susceptible breeding ground for ideas! Don’t tase me, bro!

Everything and everyone should be welcomed on campus, unless “everyone” includes the R.O.T.C. or Minuteman Project.

Columbia has kept a ban on the R.O.T.C. allegedly because of the military’s ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy regarding gays and because Columbia loves free speech so much. If you’re a student and want to enlist in the R.O.T.C., you’ve got to travel to other universities to meet your obligations, due to Columbia’s commitment to “tolerance”.

Showing it’s commited to tolerance too, Iran’s government not long ago had two gay teenagers hanged in public for . . . being gay — this after 228 lashes. Liberals are OK with this since neither teenager was named Matthew Shepard and the killer is an ‘influential leader’ who, not being American, has a right to “free speech”.

Four hundred other gays have been murdered by the government.

Human Rights Watch reports that Iran’s dress code police several months ago raided thousands of homes and arrested around 150,000 people as part of a campaign called “Countering Immoral Behavior”. A witness in Esfahan said police raided a birthday party, arrested 87 people, dragged them to the street, then stripped and beat them until they were bleeding. Eight of the arrested were accused of cross-dressing, which ‘doesn’t exist in Iran’.

Women in Iran are beaten if they hit the streets without a ‘bag’ over their head, or for lighting up a cig, but Ahmadinejad is no Larry Summers.

As for American hostages in Iran, the mullahs were so distraught at such allegations that they recently released another one from prison! ‘Just’ four months after being kidnapped. On the eve of Ahmadinejad’s visit. That makes four American hostages released in a month!

Liberals blow all of this off and Ahmadinejad gets a pass because, for libbies, Iran’s got all the right “enemies” — America and Israel being the biggies. Given a choice between Chimpy’s Blackwater Zionist Neo-conic Joooo-run War Machine vs Ahmadinejad the Neo-Nazi Persian Prince, libbies are sticking with the neo-Nazis. If someone like Shah of Iran Mohammed Reza Pahlavi were running the joint, the Columbia students “grilling” Ahmadinejad as if applying for intern gigs with the mullahs would instead be screaming about human rights in Iran (lack of ‘em) and how the racist Chimperorship won’t do anything to ‘fix’ it. Well, Jimmy Carter “fixed” it with the ayatollahs.

Which brings up the point of who really runs the joint — the mullahs. Sen. Harry Reid said that “as goofy as (Iran’s) leader appears to be, based on his speech in Columbia, I still think there are many other powers in Iran that we could be dealing with.” As goofy as Harry Reid appears to be, he’s even goofier in goofily following the mullah script by calling Ahmadinejad “goofy”. If you’re an Iranian nuclear mullah, having a clown and laughingstock nobody takes seriously as your front guy works swimmingly if lulling the unsuspecting infidel — as the Mullahattan Project carries on — is the goal. If you want to pinpoint how some illegit-born loser anti-Semite who bailed high school ended up almost wiping out European Jewry and bringing on WWII, that’s it right there. Even after his running start, Hitler wasn’t taken seriously at first, not in Britain anyway. Germany? Oh, don’t worry. Top-to-bottom washed-up/has-been country, goofy tinpot dictator, big friggin’ deal. No threat to us. We know what happened afterward.

But the lulling job isn’t lulling the chap in the White House, as four U.S. carrier groups in the Gulf and the Revolutionary Guard Corps getting properly labeled would suggest. In fact, the signs of coming action are so clear, even Democrats are figuring it out — and they’re ready to surrender in Iran. Stay tuned.

Sowing And Reaping

It seemed innocent enough at the time. I had just come home from high school and told my mom that I was going to a friend’s house to play football. She insisted that I stay home and do my homework. Instead, I slipped out the back door and spent the next 2 hours making tackles and touchdowns in my friend’s backyard. But on the last play, I was tackled into a swingset and knocked out my front tooth. It hurt like crazy, but not as badly as telling my parents.

That choice to disobey put me on a 10-year path of dental problems and pain that have continuing implications today. Ballplayer Roy Hobbs said in the film The Natural, “Some mistakes you never stop paying for.”

Centuries earlier, Paul captured the same idea in the universal law of sowing and reaping. He said, “Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Gal. 6:7). Our choices often have a reach and impact that we could never imagine. Thus the apostle’s words remind us to choose wisely.

The choices we make today produce the consequences we reap tomorrow. It’s far better to avoid sin in the first place than to struggle to overcome its consequences.

Lord, we need Your wisdom to help us make good choices, and forgiveness when we make bad choices.

The day that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was given the opportunity to speak at Columbia University in New York, the powers that be over at Seton Hall University in New Jersey were cancelling the appearance of Sirius Satellite Radio's Andrew Wilkow and former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Wilkow and DeLay were invited to speak to the campus as part of their college tour by the campus Republicans. However, the Seton Hall administration decided to cancel the appearance claiming that Tom DeLay would cast a negative light on their institution.

So in the minds of the head honchos over at Seton Hall, Andrew Wilkow and Tom DeLay are more "dangerous" than the likes of Ahmadinejad. It's disgraceful that the liberals in this country were whining and crying that the leader of Iran, the world's leader in state sponsored terrorism, should be given his right to free speech. Yet, they deny and they cheer the denial of the free speech rights of Andrew Wilkow and Tom DeLay. Yes, hypocrisy at it's finest.
