Thoughts came to me the other night after hanging with my Jewish friends, whose families are VERY liberal SF-Bay area anti-Bush anti-republican people. But post 9/11 a few came around, my friend and I are learning Krav Maga (IDF self defense) and I've spent many Jewish holidays with them. But follow me here - Christians and Jews know the Old Testaments. The state of Israel can die and the Jewish people will live. What I have learned, is that the most important thing is - LIFE. And compassion. And that god will save the Jewish people. The major Jewish holidays, His chosen people will always be saved. Passover, Hanukkah -- they are about God saving His People. An oppressed people.
So it goes traditionally. The important thing is to do The Right Thing. Give the homeless guy a dollar if you can, give all you can, encourage life and spread help and compassion far and wide while you are alive. I'm not saying this is a negative reflection on conservative philosophy - or any indictment of self reliance, responsibility, or any negative slant on Judaism. Just a point that hit me while ruminating on the state of Israel vs. the existence of a people. (Looking at YOU Olmerht) I am closer to my Hebrew brothers and sisters than most others I know (yeah, yeah, 'some of my best friends, eh?') Schnuck schnuk. So, I know the debate about why Jews vote DemoNcrat has always been a source of debate here on FR. It just came to me in a dream. Talk amongst, please.

I think that God is NOT to blame for our Earthly calamities, man’s evil, original sin if you will — makes us fallible. I think God rolled the ball and man’s response is our final judgement.
But the Jewish people are saved, and taught that they are the chosen people (with which I agree BTW)

Where’s the beef? You didn’t answer the question of why jews are so often liberal. ( They often are very high achievers, why do so many get it so wrong? )
If this means that Jews are meant to be charitable to their fellow humans, well and good.
But if it means that Jews think that treasure is to be taken Robin Hood style from others against their will, upon the force of Law, and spent as seen fit by the takers, then this is neither the "right thing" nor is it charitable.

I thought I detected an undercurrent of 'liberals-are-more-compassionate-to-the-poor-than-conservatives-are' in the above sentence. I hope I am reading more into it than is actually there, because conservatives are are known to be more charitable with their own money than are liberals.
On the other hand, the scumbag liberals are quite "charitable" with OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY - - which is why they so rudely go into the polling place and vote for Democrat politicians to confiscate more and more tax dollars from THEIR NEIGHBORS and then use that money to buy the votes of society's parasites (ie., the Democrat "base").

You may want to correspond with some residents of Isreal proper. Most likely they would want to survive.. to live.
Your Jewish friends in SF don’t have the same type of concern, the very compassion you speak of because they ARE NOT UNDER THE GUNS of 1 billion muslims every day.. over a million living with them IN ISREAL.
Before posing the questions to us safe at FR in America you may want to first run your suppositions to those who live in Isreal. They probably have a different feeling about life in general.
You may also want to challenge your American Jewish liberal “friends” if the want to die today or tomorrow. Do it while cleaning a gun. Look crazy and talk softly. See how esoteric their thoughts on living are then.
They will not be thinking it is okay if they die at your hands as long as the begger on the street has a dollar, or because others will live, and Judism will still be around. None of what you pose to us will matter to your friends as you reassemble your gun.
They will probably not be thinking of any thing other than you not killing them right then.

First, our God is capitialized.
Why are so many Jews secular and liberal ? The holocost is the answer. They never again want to be singled out and persecuted for being Jewish.
