Republicans from Lincoln to Reagan have belived in free labor and free opportunity. Democrats from Jefferson Davis To Sharpton have believed in division for the benefit of the non-productive. But that doesn't stop leftist conventional thought from trying to turn Lincoln into some sort of 19th century FDR.

I wouldn’t be surprised if “Spielberg drops” isn’t an apt mental image for these films.

Good casting. She’ll fill the role of a mentally deranged woman perfectly. Mary Todd Lincoln was not a very attractive woman either.

Maybe they’ll try to associate Lincoln’s suspension of the right of habeus corpus with Bush’s Patriot Act.
To: Colonel Kangaroo
Physically, she’s too pretty to play Mary Lincoln.
Mentally, of course, she fits the role like a glove.

What a shame. I thought they would have gone with Holly hunter in that role, since she and liam neeson read the letters of Lincoln and Mary together sometime ago on Cspan. They were absolutely superb.

Ah, well that means we can look forward to the American Civil War being blamed on a Jewish-Israeli conspiracy.

Lincoln was one of the sorriest Presidents in American History. (If not the sorriest).

With the magic that Hollywood can work, I would say that this one would be a piece of cake.

Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus for civilians, declared war without congressional consent, and issued a warrant for the arrest of the Chief Justice. But you will never hear about that in a history book.

Watch out for liberals trying to steal a Republican Hero He was a hero only after winning the Civil War. Before that the Republicans had dumped him for the 1864 election.

Every single social studies class I have ever taken has said that the parties gradually switched following reconstruction.
It took a fair amount of time before I even understood the implication. Democrats are responsible for every good thing in the country ever. I chalk up not seeing it sooner to youth.

Sally Field cast in Spielberg's Lincoln Why, does she have a beard these days? I guess she's getting on in years. . .

Is Lincoln a hero? Did you ever read “The Real Lincoln”? What do you find heroic about him? His prosecution of a war that need not have been? His jailing of opponents? His lifetime of racism, followed by the opportunistic freeing of (only) Southern slaves? His creation of the FedGov beheamoth in place of the small central government of the founders?

Wonder if Speilberg is going to mention the rumors that old Abe was bi-sexual. Liberals never pass up a chance to revise history.
