So Hillary Rodham Clinton had a pretty good week. But so did the Republicans.
How can that be? Answer: As the junior senator from New York closes in on the Democratic nomination, Republican prospects for the general election are improving - because concern for national honor eclipses enthusiasm for national health insurance.
As Clinton demonstrated during her pentathlon of Sunday talk shows, she is an effective Q-and-A advocate for her new health care plan. And that probably guarantees her the Democratic nomination.
But Clinton is ahead of the Republican hopefuls, although not by much - just three points or so - against the leading Republican, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani. And that's a surprisingly narrow margin, given the anti-Republican mood of the country; the best overall metrics of public opinion are President George W. Bush's job-approval ratings and the "right track/wrong track" question - and both are 2-1 negative.
In such a situation, one might expect the Democrats to be on their way to another big victory in 2008.
But they don't seem to be so strong, at least not at the presidential level. How come? One answer is that while the voters were eager to punish the Republicans, they still don't entirely trust the Democrats.
Moreover, it would appear that many Democrats, including Clinton, have misread the zeitgeist, the spirit of the times. In wartime, people tend to become morally conservative. They pray more, reflecting upon the sacrifice that others are making; they take patriotism and pride in the military more seriously.

She refuses to condemn an organization that calls a general leading our troops in the field during wartime a traitor.
If she exhibits such disrespect for the military, she can hardly expect the military or anyone else to respect her.
How did Hillary have a good week?
I saw her on Fox, she has a laugh that really grates on you. I think Hillary is going to be the next Al Gore who is the only Democrat who could have lost in 2000.
Says who? Last I checked the Dem Congress isn't doing too well in the polls.
Senator Clinton, How will you lead as Commander in Chief if you loathe the military and do not believe or trust your decorated Generals in the field?
TC, refer to Post 6.
Now that’s scary!! Just in time for Halloween.
Don’t forget the Chelsa at twelve anti military quotes.
I’m military. I am retired military. I am red, white and blue. I am the flag. I DO NOT WANT HILLARY KLINTON IN COMMAND OF MY MILITARY!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET THIS STRAIGHT AMERICA, NO HILLARY IN CHARGE OF THE MILITARY!!! GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND SEE THIS CREEP FOR WHAT SHE IS, A MARXIST’S PIG!!!
The media will be pounding the drum beat into us, that Hitlery is leading every GOP contender in every poll under the sun. They pulled this same crap with President Gore and President Kerry. Remember them? The polls conducted usually contain about 50% dem, 25% rep and 25% ind. Gore and Kerry were going to trounce W all the way till elecion day. Don’t believe a friggen’ word the leftist propagandists throw our way.
Ohhhh the Horror of that cackle. BUMP to remind to play for my leftist neighbors tonight. There is nothing possible that could be uttered, a question on TV no less, that could allow her to drop that out of her esophagus on TV. She’s forcing the “....Look I’m Human Too...” insert cackle.
Complete Gack and Dogbarf Alert.
Forgot to mention that the body lingo lady on The Factor last night said that her laugh was indeed EVIL!
I think Doug from Upland should do a video
