Yup, advertisers cancelled, revenue dropped and the editorial board were given a consequential 10% salary and budget cut and a hiring freeze...LOL

Ironically, they created an accelerated microcosm of exactly what is happening with the Drive-By media today - spout left wing crap -lose revenue and circulation as a consequence - learn to make do with less...

At least they are getting a real education...LOL

That is the only reason why they are even trying to explain their action. Seems to me their salary and budget cuts should be tied to the drop in advertising revenue!

"While student journalists enjoy all the privileges and protections of the First Amendment, they must also accept full responsibility for the choices they make," Penley said in a prepared statement. "Members of a university community ought to be expected to communicate civilly and rationally and to make thoughtful arguments in support of even unpopular viewpoints. I am disappointed that the Collegian's recent editorial choices do not reflect the expectations we have of our student journalists nor the standards that are clearly articulated by student media policies. I also have every expectation that the readers of the Collegian will make their viewpoints known to the editor and the Board of Student Communications, which serves as the newspaper's publisher, and that ultimately, the newspaper will answer to its readers."

It's hard to find anything to disagree with in this statement.

"It was never our intent to disenfranchise our advertisers and our readers," McSwane said, adding that he hopes people will focus on why the Collegian published the editorial.

That's okay,you disenfranchised no one.They disenfranchised you!

...thoughtful arguments in support of even unpopular viewpoints.

Popular viewpoint or unpopular, whatever - media types seem to think it's a popular one. But this dude is right, The Collegian's comment is the opposite of thoughtful.

Responding to the tasering (is that a word?) of a yoot at a Kerry event with "F___ Bush". Not sure for what purpose other than an opportunity to once again display their open hatred for the President. Most papers that editorialize in this way address something with which the President is at least remotely connected.

But no, the Collegian just wants everyone to know they have the constitutional right to print anything they want, any time they want, and for any reason or none at all. And, of course, they do.

Best hope is the paper falls to financial ruin, and the good people of Colorado demand there be no bailout.

"Are these student reporters and editors really that ill-informed?"

Yes.

"Alternatively, if it is not a question of ignorance, is their capacity for logic that impaired?"

Yes.
