Exactly. I've seen "Eagles Nest" home videos of Adolf Hitler, Eva Braun, and their German Shepard. If not for knowing what an evil monster Hitler was, you'd never realize that this was someone who plunged most of the world into war and was responsible for way more than 12 million deaths.

So they’ll pick us off one by one, eh?

Spain falls. A Taliban-style government is set up. Sharia is imposed. Women are flogged for not being in full burkha, and shot for coming out in public without a male relative.

Meanwhile, the rest of Europe and the West continues on its merry way, with the situation in Spain making no impact at all on their people’s attitude towards Islam or Muslims.

Repeat as needed and eventually Muslims conquer the world.

I dont’ buy it. I admit we are still in the appeasement stage, similar to the attitude of most in Western Europe in 1937 or ‘38. Yet most even in those countries eventually fought, if not very effectively. And they were conquered militarily, they did not just submit in an excess of self-hatred.

I’m sorry, but I don’t buy your scenario as realistic. Like all I’ve seen proposed, it’s hyperbolic and assumes that people’s attitudes toward Islam remain unchanged as they see other countries forced to submit to sharia.

I think a much more likely scenario is that PC and multi-cultural cr*p are just leading to the MOAB, the Mother of All Backlashes, against Islam, Muslims, liberal elites, etc. The harder they tamp it down with their control of the cultural institutions and MSM, the greater it will be when it hits.

Every time I visit the horrors of Auschwitz, I ask myself...what would I have done if I had lived near by? as an ordinary citizen?

If you survived the war, by definition you kept your head down. Those who protested were by definition killed. For this entirely logical reason there were damn few protesters.

If protesting segregation in the South in the 50s had been an automatic death sentence for the protester and his family, very few would have traveled from NYC to the South to protest.

This is what makes me sick about the self-congratulation of today's "protesters." With very rare exceptions, they risk nothing more than an evening in the slammer, a couple of bruises, and the admiration of their peers.

Yet they lionize themselves as if they had stood up in courageous defiance of an actual police state. Yuckk!

I lived in Germany for a time, and I had an apartment in a small relatively obscure village.

My neighbors were wonderful to my family and me, and it was all in all a rather pleasant experience.

One day the National TV ran that silly little program series about the Holocaust for a week or so.

The uproar was astonishing.

The Germans that I knew seemed to be in complete denial of everything related, and besides, “It was so long ago!”

Well VOA, you replied to #22 with two of the exact controlled studies which I was going to reference. I would only add that Hurricane Katrina was a fine, recent, non-clinical example of how thin the veneer of civilisation really is, and how quickly a community can find itself between the covers of Lord of the Flies.

I would be suprised if Lord of The Flies is on the reading list
of many high-school English/lit. classes these day.

It would just introduce too much cognitive dissonance for teachers
and students raised on the Atheistic Gospel of Innate Human Goodness.

"Despite my asking for over five years now, nobody has yet presented a realistic scenario whereby Islamists conquer the world...."

. "If it takes me ten centuries to kill my enemy, I will wait a thousand years for revenge."

-Baluchistani Proverb

In the west we've become victims of our own dynamism which promises a solution to all problems through technology, and our humanism which leads us to believe we are the measure of all things. We want our murder mysteries solved in an hour, our illnesses, aches and pains cured or prevented by a shot or a pill, and our packages delivered overnight. Because our own lives have become increasingly busy and hectic, we have, as a society, lost sight of events that occurred before our lifetimes and tend to place very little focus on what occurs beyond our retirement years apart from, perhaps a will.

Moslems have, for lack of a better term, a "borg-like" assimilationist mentality. If you haven't read Londonistan by Melanie Philips, I would highly recommend it. In the US we typically have to win our wars (or at least demonstrate substantial progress) before the next election. Moslems have no such pressure and can operate much more incrementally than a western society. As clearly evident in western Europe today, they are staging a demographic takeover, and I would suspect that within most of our lifetimes, we'll see the islamization of more than one European Nation...and their perfectly content to take us over one nation at a time.

For like reasons, I'm surprised Milgram's study is as well known as it is.

The SS had three main branches: the Waffen SS, the Allgemeine [general] SS, and the Totenkopfverbaende [the Death’s Head’s Regiments]. The last group formed the original camp cadres, and ran the camp system. They also furnished, in 1939-1940, the original TO&E for the 3rd SS “Totenkopf” Motorized [later Panzer] division.

The Allgemeine SS furnished the personnel for: the early Waffen SS units [that body guarded Hitler during the rise to power]. At that time SS units were under the SA command [Roehm], and were not allowed to exceed 10% of SA strength; the SD [SS Security Service], Himmler’s staff, the RuSHA [Race and Resettlement Office], and various other SS amter. They also were the umbrella organization within the SS for the “Honorary SS”- usually industrialists and party members. They were not just “scum from the streets”.

While the Waffen SS had their own command structure, they served under Army command [except for disciplinary purposes at the front. In 1940, Himmler put the Inspectorate for Concentration camps under the staff of the Waffen SS. He also began transferring troops between camp duty and the Waffen SS and back again, blurring the lines [Mengele was originally a medical officer with the 5th SS “Viking” division on the Eastern front].

The Einsatzgruppen were composed of German police units, SD personnel, and Waffen SS troops. On many occasions Army units assisted them [and participated] in Einsdatzgruppen actions. Of the four Einsatzgruppe commanders in 1941. Stahlecker, and Ohlendorf were SD [as was the CO of Einsatzgruppe ‘C’ [can’t remember his name]. The CO of Einsatzgruppe ‘B” was Artur Nebe, the commander of the Kriminal politzei of the Reich.

As for the Waffen SS, aside from their murder of enemy military prisoners [Wormhout, 1940 LSSAH; La Paradis, 1940 Totenkopf; Falaise Gap, 1944 HJ; Malmedy 1944 LSSAH, and too many incidents on the eastern front and in the Balkans to count]; there were the murders of civilians [Ouradur sur Glane, 1944 DR, Belgium, 1944 LSSAH].

The structure and interdependence of the SS is a little more complicated than your post indicates.

I don't know why anyone is shocked.

All humans have a need to balance their "work" with some fun and frivolity. It just happens that the "work" of these Nazis was disposing of Untermenschen, which to them was perfectly normal. They were "just following orders".

I quite agree, and note that the intention to blur chain of command and authority were very considered throughout the Nazi regime, as Hitler wanted no clear concentration of power under any one subordinate.

Huh? You regularly go visit Auschwitz?? I find that.......disturbing. Once I can understand, but to go there again and again??

Weird!

I don’t consider it weird.

I happen to live in the region, and whenever I have visitors, especially young students, I make sure I take them to see the horrors.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t enjoy returning. In fact, these visits do take an emotional toll on me. But I see it as my duty to make sure that, at least in my watch, my visitors will learn something new and never forget.

And YET the Nazis conquered NOTHING.
They did not survive WW2 as an ideology, though of course
the Soviets did. Japan got the brunt of it all, and changed forever as a culture.
The Islamists could find any number of ways to continue on
being the Blight of the 21st Century, and not the least of those ways involve slow but steady legitimization through political representation, and our “certification” of Islam through “players” like CAIR and all the other anti-American pressure/interest groups we’d be seriously better without, and against whom some kind of campaign should have started ALREADY.
But, yeah, good cop/bad cop is a game that continues as long as we countenance it. As long as it serves some political purpose for both Democrats and Republicans to exploit, it will continue, and grow, but very slowly, as we become like that fabled frog that gasps for air as the water around him gets warmer and warmer, and we find we’re “boiled alive”. And there are only a few current candidates who offer ANY hope of dealing with their threat on ANY level. ANd BTW, there will be no radical surgery from us or the rest of the world to “rid ourselves of Islam”, if by that you’re talking about a concerted military/police offensive to literally kill them all.
Remember that the flaccid response in the UK to the bus and subway bombings was stepped- up police action, surveillance, more rhetoric, etc., NOT EVEN THE ENTIRELY HUMANE RESPONSE OF DEPORTATION, which is apparently UNTHINKABLE.....
