WASHINGTON, D.C., September 17, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Alan Keyes, a former US ambassador and articulate defender of pro-life and pro-family values, has now announced his own intention to enter the Republican presidential primary.
Keyes declared his candidacy Friday and stated on the nationally syndicated Janet Parshall radio program that not only would he be joining the nine other Republican contenders in the primary, but he would also be participating in tonight's Values Voter Debate in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
"I will be participating in the Values Voter Debate on Monday as a candidate, and I will be trying my best - as I forever have, in the course of the years that I have been involved at this level in politics," Keyes said.
"There isn't a standout," Keyes told Parshall in explaining his decision to run saying there needed to be someone who could clearly express the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people." Keyes said that he felt "like a lot of folks" who have been "unmoved" by the other candidates - including staunchly pro-life and conservative candidates Sen. Sam Brownback, Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Rep. Ron Paul - saying none of them possessed a "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration."
Keyes also told supporters on the website RenewAmerica that he had filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Friday making official his 3rd run for the White House.
While Keyes is known nationally as an eloquent defender of life, marriage, and family, he also is known for his unsuccessful ventures. He ran for Maryland Senate in 1992, 1998; the White House in 1996, 2000; then in 2004 relocated to Illinois to make an unsuccessful challenge to Barack Obama for Senate at the behest of state Republicans desperate for a champion after their own candidate withdrew in disgrace.
"The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard," said Keyes, "of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life."
Keyes entry into the race makes him the second black candidate running for president, placing him opposite Democratic contender Barack Obama. Keyes previously said that Obama had to be stopped saying he had taken a "wicked and evil position" through his radical support of abortion.

Way to go Alan. Welcome to the circus.
I’m slightly embarrassed to say... Who is “Red Eye”? I know O’Riely is on at ten, but at present I’m drawing a blank on who is on at eleven... ??
And never to worry about me taking things out of context. I’ll heat up good with an outright dig, but other than that, I got fairly thick skin...
“OK, OK, Im thinking, dont rush me.
I need a little time to think on this.”
keep thinking, maybe you can link Keyes to David Duke some
how.
I’d vote for him! what are you afraid of?
you sound just like the freepers who whined that Tom McClintock couldn’t win so “we must all vote for Arnold”!!
well we Got Arnold...and The democrats are laughing at us.
Keyes is a better man than any in the “Top Tier”.
pissant.
>Keyes is not going to blossom into the top candidate. I
>understand that you hope for that to happen. Please
>understand right now, that your hopes are an extreme long
>shot.
I’m not for Keyes, so much as I am for raising our expectations beyond a smooth talking rich man who offends no one, and will sell us out like all since Kennedy.
>Dont let yourself get burrowed into this to the point that
>you dislike conservatives because they wouldnt sign on.
OK. I’m just trying to raise our expectations.
>Still, his heart wouldnt been in it like Bushs has been.
I don’t care about our commitment in the Middle East if it’s not matched by a commitment to cut the national debt and close the border. Doing one without the other two, still destroys the USA.
>I think youd be better off looking for the best of the top
>tier candidates
I don’t know anything about Thompson, other than he seems smooth (bad sign), and everyone is gushing over him. The rest of the “top tier” I don’t like.
(cough...)
Ahhh... No. Never watched him before...

NATIONAL REVIEW; “Waiting on Fred” Aug 27 2007
The Supreme Court, and judicial issues in general, are Thompson’s strong suit. Not only does he have the background-the Watergate investigation, the Senate Judiciary Committee, private practice, and the job of guiding John Roberts through his confirmation hearings-he also knows the conservative legal stars who would likely be candidates for the Court in coming years. But he won’t name names, beyond the men already there, “I like Roberts and Alito and Scalia and Thomas” he tells me. “We’re in a heck of a lot better shape because of Roberts and Alito, and one more gain would put us in even better shape.” Should he become president, Thompson would undoubtedly try to nominate that elusive fifth conservative.
If at the end of the day all the top tier folks turn out to be RINOs, I’ll be staying home. I’ve had it with voting for RINOs. All we need is another term or two with a RINO in the White House passing most of the legislation the left is thrilled with, and this nation will be done.
I understand where you are coming from. Many of us are about ready to hang it up. This last eight years have been some of the most frustrating years I’ve lived through politically.
If the Republican party doesn’t pull it’s head out, I’d love to see it get zero votes just one general election. Perhaps they’d listen the next four years. They’re so damned headstrong when they decide to force through amnesty, or some such. I’m sick of it.
Keyes has had his bite(s) at the apple. Enough already!
>If at the end of the day all the top tier folks turn out
>to be RINOs, Ill be staying home.
Commit yourself to being vocal for the patriots then. I’m not saying you join the campaigns for Tancredo, Hunter, Paul, or Keyes for president, no I’m not saying that.
What I am saying, is that when asked, you voice support for them since the usual suspects always...
1) run up the national debt
2) leave the border open
3) abandon the unborn (I don’t care who he nominates to the court, he could lobby hard for a new law against abortion, he could heavily regulate the abortion industry, he could prosecute cases of statuatory rape not reported by Planned Parenthood, he could go to black communities and ask them why they vote for candidates that support the killing of their children (some large numbers of black children are killed by abortion.
I’m done with “front-runners”. In fact, I just changed my tagline to reflect this.
I mention Hunter from time to time. I like the guy.
It’s still early, and I’m not locking anyone in yet myself. I do know some people I won’t vote for, but I’m still not locking in at the top.
I’d love to see Hunter get the nod. One thing about Thompson, is that he is going to be able to look into the camera and persuade people. If that can be done for good, it’s going to be a very dynamic plus which I don’t think Hunter could equal.
Now, is Thompson as grounded as we hope he is. I’m not convinced yet. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t.
