The state housing agencys deep and systemic failure to properly oversee the rapidly dwindling supply of subsidized middle-income housing has led to the deterioration of the buildings, an increase in rents and a waste of taxpayer money, according to a report issued yesterday by the state inspector general, Kristine Hamann.
The Division of Housing and Community Renewals mismanagement and lack of oversight at 80,000 apartments in 189 projects built under the states middle-income Mitchell-Lama housing program also led to unqualified applicants getting subsidized apartments at the expense of legitimate tenants, the report said.

You're right. If they would simply let developers build to the market then things would work out as well as things can work out.
I must demur. They do corruption better than any.

Then try to picture the results of "HillaryCare."
Coming next: subsidized health care.

You're right. Some would learn to work the system while the rest would be left scratching whatever they scratch in puzzlement over what is going on.
When the government subsidizes goods or services, everyone involved learns how to milk the system and the taxpayers end up as the losers. I used to work for a couple who owned several Section 8 rental properties. They were extremely fussy about who they would rent to: they not only wanted tenants to have Section 8 vouchers but to have jobs as well. Moreover, they created several different companies on paper so that they could charge higher rents to the local government agency that handled these rentals. Yet, they refused to maintain the properties and would repair them only if they were cited for violations or taken to housing court. These two pampered rich people didn’t have any qualms about profiting off the poor and the taxpayers.
Ooh, ooh, ooh!!! Can we hurry up and put these guys in charge of healthcare already? What are we waiting on?
I don’t doubt a word of that. May I ask which state that was in? I ask because I know this is not just a New York thang.
In New York that's much been done. In terms of state budget, Medicaid is much an albatross on an albatross.
You have got to let the properties decay. Otherwise there is no repair contracts. Remember the union motto, “Don’t Kill The Job!”
Ohio.
I see your Ohio and raise you a Delaware.
Are you saying things are the same in Ohio?
I don’t know that things are exactly the same here as they are in New York City but there is a lot of fraud associated with these subsidized housing programs and it is not always on the tenant side of the equation.
Make one wonder how bad it is for the ‘low income’ susidized housing?
