When the government subsidizes goods or services, everyone involved learns how to milk the system and the taxpayers end up as the losers. I used to work for a couple who owned several Section 8 rental properties. They were extremely fussy about who they would rent to: they not only wanted tenants to have Section 8 vouchers but to have jobs as well. Moreover, they created several different companies on paper so that they could charge higher rents to the local government agency that handled these rentals. Yet, they refused to maintain the properties and would repair them only if they were cited for violations or taken to housing court. These two pampered rich people didn’t have any qualms about profiting off the poor and the taxpayers.
I don’t doubt a word of that. May I ask which state that was in? I ask because I know this is not just a New York thang.
