I think we also need to take into account we don’t know what the subpoena is for. It could be that some of these congressmen were looking into this case themselves and gathered information. I would like to find more info.

So would I. But the simple fact of being subpoenaed in association with a bribery investigation tied to the radioactive Randy Cunningham is enough to torpedo a campaign.

Thanks for that detail.

I see Mark Garagos has expanded his law practice beyond celebrity theft and murder.

‘Exactly. But, if this is a fishing and smear campaign ala DeLay, then the prosecutor needs to sit in a cell for abuse of process. Enough of that crap, as well’

Does the prosecutor have the same history as that clown in TExas with Delay, and before him, Kay Hutchinson? I haven’t heard anything along those lines so far.

Perhaps this is why Hastert spoke out in defense of William Jefferson?

I believe that it was stated that Gerlach subpoenaed the congress men to prove that the so-called bribes were just business as usual in D.C., not necessarily that the Congress men were involved, themselves.

It’s a fishing expedition. Best they can come up with is subpoenaing possible witnesses, then find out their possibles have no idea of anything to do with the case and cut em loose.

Interesting that some of the people are Dems and they are FIGHTING the subpoenas. What? I thought we had to track down EVERYONE associated with Duke Cunningham!

Sounds like the defense contractor is singing. BTW my prediction, republicans who took bribes will respectfully resign, democrats will ignore the charges and become senators.

Hopefully it’s nothing, but it wouldn’t surprise me, corrupt congressmen is a fact of life in this country.

I seen all were identified by party but what I noticed is the word Republican used twice while the word Democrat wasn’t used at all in the naming of the “chosen” few.

Others who received subpoenas are former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.; California Republicans John Doolittle, Jerry Lewis, Duncan Hunter and Darrell Issa; Roy Blunt, R-Mo.; Jerry Weller, R-Ill.; Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas; Ike Skelton, D-Mo.; John Murtha, D-Pa.; Republicans Peter Hoekstra and Joe Knollenberg, of Michigan.

Ping,
I’m sure you can’t say much about this, but it will be nice to put everyone at ease.

Delay is a scumbag. He deserves more than he got.

Really now, what did he do that makes him your ugly name calling. I personally enjoyed seeing the liberals upper lip twitch when they heard his name or the sound of his voice.

While I’m a clear Fred supporter, I certainly hope and pray that Duncan Hunter is innocent in this. If he’s involved then I’ll be extremely dissapointed.

I believe that it was stated that Gerlach subpoenaed the congress men to prove that the so-called bribes were just business as usual in D.C., not necessarily that the Congress men were involved, themselves.

That's right. Those subpoenaed are anyone who had to do with the Military in congress. If you want bribes, favors, etc. look at the white house first. Wilkes did.

.[snip from the article]advertising Wilkes raised at least $100,000 for President Bush's 2004 re-election bid and provided flights on his private jet to lawmakers, including Blunt and former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas.

http://www.pacificviews.org/weblog/archives/002123.html

The Times article ends with Wilkes sadly thinking about his lost glory days when he could get his picture taken with President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Bush advisor, Karl Rove. Today they won't give him the time of day.

Hunter's records prove he took no bribes.

Agreements for Future Employment: 0 Compensation: 0 Gifts Received: 0 (Amount: $0) Payments to Charitable Organizations in lieu of Honoraria: 0 (Amount: $0) http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/pfds.asp?CID=N00006983

====== After Wilkes broke from Audre and started his own firm, Duncan Hunter continued to support Audre’s software against Wilkes’s. Thereafter, Wilkes started donating to Cunningham. http://recoveringliberal.com/?page_id=609

It’s one of those blunderbus witness supeona blitzes. Trying to rattle the cages a bit to see if some info can be gleaned to support their case.

Nothing will much come from it but the news writer is trying to tease the story into a MAJOR SCANDAL OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!(cue masculine echoing voice; C. Heston’s will do)....(phewwww, out of breath typing all those capital letters)!

"I see Mark Garagos has expanded his law practice beyond celebrity theft and murder."

I'm not convinced of that. I think he's still nothing more than an attorney you hire if you want to try your case in the press prior to going to trial. I suspect that Geragos is hoping to sling enough mud at these guys, some of it without a doubt deserved, to prove to a jury that ALL business in D.C. is done by his client's methods (and maybe it is!) If it weren't for O.J. monopolizing Fox, maybe Geragos was planning to go on Greta for a segment every nite to trash and expose these congressmen leading up to the trial.

This could well have been instigated by CREW, owned by the same man who owns MoveOn.org, George Soros. Act II of their latest hatchet job, see the NYT ad on General Petraeous? They must be getting nervous!
