Earlier this month, fellow SFGate contributor Mark Morford featured a sort of "best of" hate-mail collection, proving that vitriol emanates from both sides of the political spectrum. It's a symptom of the Wild-West-frontier-like atmosphere of the Internet. Anything goes, and that's the beauty of it.
As a right-leaning columnist in a left-leaning town, I've been the recipient of some rather colorful hate mail myself. And, over the years, I've been collecting and posting it at my Web site. The following is a sampling of these e-mails, presented in their original condition, but with profanity obscured, names omitted, and, in some cases, shortened slightly.

Whenever I see this, I know that something’s not quite right with the writer. The right has never been in the same league with the vitriol of the left and when the writer starts out with moral equivalence, he loses me. O’Reilly frequently does this just before I change the channel - you can guess at which is cause and which is effect.
The left is only happy if you understand they are right, you are wrong and if you listen to them you are better for it...Anyone with other ideas is a fascist (if not worse)...these people are truly ignorant or stupid and the word describing them, moonbat and/or useful iditot, may actually be too kind to describe them.

The second word is particularly illustrative of the cognitive dissonance of the left - it shows the author is capable of simultaneously (in the space of one word!) accusing someone else of being a Nazi while being himself anti-Semitic.

One other interesting note. Notice how many Libs are anti-semites? I can’t belie=ve so many jewish people in America align themselves with the Libs. they should really read some of the comments from their political “alies”.
There is a type of personality which latches on to banal political issues and elevates them to life-and-death importance. These appear to be about equally distributed between Right and Left, with the Left's representatives offering more foul language and immediate threats of physical violence or government punishment to those they criticize and the Right offering longer-term threats of eternal damnation and God's judgment. While it's true that the Left's vitriol sounds worse because of the language and because it promises retribution in the here and now, the derangement factor isn't really any different.
Basically, mugged by reality is what I meant.
9/11 mugged a lot of lefties, especially those in and around WTC.
Please, if you want to wish death on the moonbats of the Bay Area, wish for something that leaves the buildings standing. As a physical city I love SF, its residents notwithstanding.
I think many of those replies are from Arab Muslims, like the Palestinian "students" at San Francisco State. They affiliate with liberals for the sole purpose of attacking Israel. Liberals won't attack such anti-semitic outbursts because they've been taught that in the clash of civilizations, the poor brown man is always right.
