Police chief’s proposal to add fuel to already hot immigration debate (VA)

A new report by Police Chief Charlie Deane showing how an illegal immigrant arrested on suspicion a traffic violation or minor crime could soon face deportation proceedings in Prince William County is expected to set off a strong debate over the issue Tuesday.

Although many Prince William County residents have been pushing for tougher immigration enforcement, others have warned that Deane’s proposal could make life tougher for the community’s Hispanic population.

“It will instill fear and distress for police in the community and increase racial tension,” said Nancy Lyall, coordinator for Hispanic outreach organization Mexicanos Sin Fronteras. “It will drive down property values, and people will leave the county to find a more friendly place to live.”

LOL! When I was in LA during 1995-2005, the Los Angeles Unified School
district would routinely alter/switch standardized performance tests.

And then the LA Times would report the results with “buried in the back pages”
explanation that the current year test scores weren’t directly comparable
to test scores from previous years!

But I must say that for my driving around, The San Fernando Valley
looked a LOT nicer than East LA or some of those semi-Wild West towns
in the south-eastern part of the LA basin.

I live near Manassas Park there are 50 - 60 empty homes that once belonged to latins that “cashed in” on the real estate bubble. When their construction jobs went so did they...a once vibrant bedroom community near DC is a wasteland wit decrepit houses and the attendant crime. The PWC shriff is trying to combat a rise in crime due to high uneployment...

50 to 60 vacant houses is peanuts in Northern Virginia. Clean 'em up, paint 'em, and sell them at the right price and the problem is solved.

BTW, I know where that neighborhood is. We know people who live near there who were overrun with crime everyday when those former residents came home from working illegally or went out to break in houses or steal cars in the evening.

The Board of Supervisors has declared Sept. 15-Oct. 15 "Hispanic Heritage Month" to honor the Hispanic contribution to this area. Board of Supervisor Chair Gerry Connoll is quoted as saying that as the number of Hispanics increases, crime goes down and school scores to up.

To my knowledge, no other ethnic group is honored.

Furthermore, the BOS officials are said to complain of hostility in nearby communities to Hispanics. IMHO that is a blatant lie.
