STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Swedish artist Lars Vilks, under a death threat from al-Qaida over his drawing of Islam's Prophet Muhammad, said Monday that police have increased his security and will not allow him to live in his home.
Vilks, who was whisked away by police when he returned to Sweden from Germany on Sunday, said he was currently staying at a secret address after security police described the threats against him as ``very serious."
"Police guard was nonexistent before this. It's 100 per cent now," he said in a telephone interview. "I can't live in my home, I've only been allowed to pick up some things."
On Saturday, the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, put a bounty on Vilks' head for depicting Muhammad's head on a dog's body.
"We are calling for the assassination of cartoonist Lars Vilks who dared insult our prophet ... and we announce a reward during this generous month of Ramadan," al Baghdadi said, according to transcripts of Islamic websites.
The bounty of $100,000 would be upped to $150,000 if Vilks was ``slaughtered like a lamb," the al-Qaida leader said.
He also offered $50,000 for the killing of the chief editor of a local newspaper, Nerikes Allehanda, which on Aug. 19 reprinted Vilks' cartoon.
Sweden's secret police, SAPO, declined to give more details on how it views the threats, but spokesman Jakob Larsson confirmed the organization had called in extra personnel at the weekend to work on the case.
Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has called for mutual respect between Muslims, Christians and nonreligious groups in an attempt to avert a wider conflict, in a country which has received more than 18,000 Iraqi refugees during the past year.

A dog, only a dog? Was I going to risk the Wrath of Allah, I'd put his head on a pig. In for a penny in for a pound. After all, they can only cut your head off once.
But you can shoot bunches and bunches of them before you run out of ammuntion. I've got about 1,500-2000 rounds, which should be good for several hundred at least, maybe more if I get a good hide and shooting position. That's just 7.62x51, .45 ACP and .30 Carbine. oh and a few hundred rounds of the Jihadies favorite, 7.62x39.
