Despite efforts, nothing much changes. Peripheral issues (embryos, bioethics, etc.) seem more fluid somehow. Perhaps by winning those battles, the abortion debate could be better framed in our favor.

The teaching is already there - it’s been there for a long time and catholics who don’t abide by it will eventually answer for it in the end.
I’m wondering why a non-catholic is so caught up in trying to tell the Church how to handle these matters.
You got it. Anyone can call themselves a Christian but the proof is in the walk. "By their fruits you shall know them". Using this standard these are not Christians. It's one thing to slip, sin and repent for it. These people made a conscious decision to reject Christ for worldly gain and admiration.
I live in the second most Catholic state in the nation, yet it is also the most pro-death. We must, as always, distinguish between Catholics and CINOs.

Without the church publicly chastising them in some dramatic fashion, they will continue to get Catholic votes while being directly responsible for promoting abortion.
Simply informing them of their after-life penalty doesn’t seem to be working. I am quite certain they chuckle at it.
I agree that the Bishops should publicly call these proabortion Catholics on the carpet. There aren’t too many Bishops today who have the cojones to declare a public excommunication.
I miss men like the late Cardinal O’Connor.
