Last Thursday, 16 of the 25 Catholics in the U. S. Senate voted to overturn the "Mexico City Policy" to allow funding to overseas health clinics providing abortions. One of the 16 was freshman Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. (D-PA) who ran against, and defeated, Sen. Rick Santorum as a "pro-life" candidate. It's doubtful whether Casey, son of the legendary pro-life Pennsylvania governor Bob Casey, will ever be able to convince voters of his pro-life label again.

This will not hurt "Senator for Life" Casey with the brain dead voters of PA. The Republicrats will just run some liberal pro-choice nominee against him so that those of us who aren't brain dead will have no reason to vote for either of them.
True. A huge chunk of that 19 points are the Reagan Democrats who felt free to vote for Casey even though they had supported and elected Santorum twice before and had no reason to abandon him, but they were happy to toss a bunch of Republicans for Democrats who claimed to be "conservatives."
Under current church law, excommunication is automatic for any politician that votes for pro-abortion laws.
Ahh - therein lies the rub!
So I guess they can’t use Casey to justify a “Democratic big tent” on abortion any more.
MONEY TALKS and again MONEY TALKS.
Enough said.
The Catholic Church can own these guys!
I wonder how those pro-life Dems in PA who had voted for Rick Santorum in the past feel about this? I sure hope they've learned their lesson.
Just goes to show what happens when folks get themselves into a snit, and throw logic out the window.
“By that time the democrats will have their corruption machine so enthrenched it won’t matter anyway.”
Hell, by that time we’ll be in the middle of a civil war, so it doesn’t much matter what the Dhimms are doing because they’ll be hiding behind closed doors and shuttered windows, quaking in fear as the wussy pissants they are.
I’m still waiting for Bob Casey (and the rest of his fellow travellers) to be excommunicated....tap...tap...tap...
Quoted from the article above:
“Pro-life” Senator Casey originally voted for the Brownback amendment but returned to the floor two days later to ask that the Senate allow him to recast his vote against it.
According to National Review, Senator Casey said, “It was my intention to vote ‘nay’ [to upholding the Mexico City Policy]. Therefore, I ask unanimous consent that I be permitted to change my vote since it will not affect the outcome of that vote. “Casey must have heard from his supporters at Planned Parenthood who didn’t approve of his not following the “party line.”
Lifesitenews.com has reported that Casey declared himself opposed to public funding of abortion in the Voter Guide before the 2006 elections. He also indicated during the 2006 campaign that he “supports legal protection for human life from conception.”
This is sad news for the Democratic Party and the Church Bob Casey, Jr. had the opportunity to be the Catholic pro-life leader in a political party that desperately needs one.
The White House promises a presidential veto, explaining, “The administration strongly opposes this legislation, because it includes provisions which are inconsistent with the Administration’s international family planning policy.”
Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia and chairman of the U.S. Bishops’ Committee for Pro-Life Activities, urged the Senators to preserve both the Mexico City and Kemp-Kasten policies. Rigali said that without the Mexico City policy “abortion-promoting organizations will exploit their status as the conduits for U.S. aid to promote abortion to vulnerable women in the Third World.”
The USCCB expressed disappointment at the passage of the legislation and appreciation for the promise of President Bush to veto it. There was no mention of the 16 Catholic Senators who ignored the letter from Cardinal Rigali asking them to continue supporting the Mexico City Policy.
Here are their names:
Robert Casey, Jr. (D-PA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT). Ted Kennedy (D-MA), John Kerry (D-MA), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Susan Collins (R-ME), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Ken Salazar (D-CO), Tom Harkin (D-IA), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Patty Murray (D-WA), Jack Reed (D-RI), Christopher Dodd (CT-D), Claire McCaskill (D-MO).
It would have been 17 Catholic Senators voting to fund abortion, but Catholic presidential candidate Joe Biden (D-CT) missed the vote.
So Collins is a CINO as well as being a RINO.
“The Vatican makes idle threats about excommunication. They never do anything though.”
The Vatican doesn’t have to issue an official decree.
This would be automatic excommunication based on the action itself.
These senators should consider themselves automatically excommunicate and should not present themselves for communion, although they are allowed to attend mass.
In order to receive communion again, they would need to confess and reconcile.
A Special Request from the Diocese of Scranton:
PLEASE CONTACT SENATOR CASEY!!!
The Mexico City Policy is a policy that maintains that the US will not contribute to nngovernmental organizations (NGOs) which perform or actively promote abortion in other nations. The policy was announced by the Reagan Administration at a population conference in Mexico City in 1984.
On Sept.6, 2007, during Senate consideration of fiscal year 2008 State Dept/Foreign Ops Appropriations Bill, Sen Casey (Dem PA) voted in favor of an amendment that overturned the Mexico City Policy (Boxer Amendment).
He also voted in favor of the Brownback Amendment which was written to uphold the Mexico City Policy. On the following Monday, Sen. Casey then went on the Senate floor and stated that his vote in favor of the Brownback Amendment was a MISTAKE and was given permission to change his vote to “NO”.
According to the news source, Casey spokesman Larry Smar said the vote against the Mexico City Policy was a vote to REDUCE abortion. “His vote was to fund family planning services that would reduce the number of unwanted prgnancies and thus to reduce the number of abortions.” (NCR, 9-25-07).
Sen. Casey needs to hear from his constituents.

The bishops of the dioceses where these senators live should order that these senators be denied Communion.
Well if I see Bobby going up to communion, after this betrayal, I will personally block the aisle.
When a Catholic bishop actually calls out a pro-abort "Catholic" politician and tells him unambiguously that he's not fit to receive communion, some people will go so far as to accuse the bishop of "violating the separation of church and state" (huh? what? for daring to impose church discipline on someone claiming to be a Catholic?!?).
It's really amazing ... the bishop is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.
Then their punishment is a matter of faith, with no traditional pain or conditioned fear factors.
Not much incentive for a heretic politician to reconsider his or her view of abortion.
You cannot honestly think the Vatican is capable of tracking down every offender worldwide and issuing decrees of official excommunication.
This form of excommunication is spelled out plainly in the catechecism.
It holds true for those who have committed grave sin and have not repented.
Any catholic who isn’t aware of this does not know much about their own religion.
Whether or not this is incentive for a heretic politician is the problem of the politician.
In the end, he/she is the one who has to answer for their actions.
If they want to try and win catholic votes while promoting abortion and still insisting on presenting themselves for communion - then that is a serious issue they will have to deal with the ultimate judge.
there are many catholics who sit their fannies in the pew on sundays during communion knowing they shouldn’t receive until they’ve confessed.
