I would like to take this opportunity to formally announce my candidacy for the Republican nomination for President in 2008.
Thank you.
... now Alan Keyes is no longer in last place . . .

Ive often wondered why intelligent people, that must know that they havent got a snow-balls chance in hell of winning, would run for President? One reason is to force the big guys in the debate down paths you want them to address. Another is the speaking circuit which pays more for people in the news...

Alan Keyes is an excellent advocate, and was probably an above-average UN Ambassador for Reagan. But he doesn't seem to have found an appropriate vocational use for his talents.
I don't recall his having a law degree, but he could earn one easily, and he'd probably be a first rate lawyer for the Rutherford Institute or something similar and could put certain important cases 'on the map', so to speak.
Alternatively, if he's adamant about working in government, he should probably take a page from the Jerry Brown playbook, and get elected mayor of a major municipality that's in trouble. He'd probably be able to do a turn-around for that city, and thus become qualified to run for Governor, if public administration is really his main interest.
Otherwise both he and Newt Gingrich will make interesting additions to the debates as advocates, but we should probably start seeing a series of more Lincoln-Douglas (one-on-one)style real debates instead of the Q&A's we've had so far.

But he does bring a lot of ideas to the tableAnd he's good at providing a contrast to "moderate" Republicans.

Maybe he is running for VP on the Thompson ticket.
Thompson/Keyes vs. Clinton/Obama... think about it.
))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
If the Thomson/Keyes won the Dems would increase Thompson’s Secrete Service funding for Presidential protection by 1,000 percent to insure Keyes does not get into the Oval Office.

I love Alan Keyes for one simple reason. He forces the other candidates to examine their conscience. Exactly. And he forces the audience to do the same.

Keyes is too much of an abortion demagogue to get elected anywhere. He’s a one-note candidate. He needs to realize there are other issues facing the world.

He'll draw support away from a couple of the other candidates which isn't a bad thing, IMO.
The field needs to be whittled down.

Didn’t Keyes also reject his daughter for being a lesbian? So much for love the sinner, hate the sin.
To: Calpernia
I dont understand why someone else would announce to run now. They already missed some of the deadlines to get on the primary ballots in states that moved their primaries up.
In Keyes’ case follow the money and the money circulating machine he’s involved with.
Next do you know which states have already passed their primary entrant deadline?.. Do you have a link to a listing of state deadlines?

Time to replenish his coffers. Keyes is shameless. It is all about raising money for himself. Follow the money.

And the debate will be even more fun to watch. --Although, the more people involved, the face less time there is for anyone to really shine. I'm been so frustrated wanting to see more of Duncan Hunter, and now...there's two more involved.

Great. There are already too many good conservatives in the race. We need some to drop out, not dilute the pool even further.
Sorry, Alan. I've supported you in the past, but not this time. Better to throw your support behind someone solid like Duncan Hunter than enter the race now.
