Keyes looks to rescue GOP, announces run for president

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After two previous runs for U.S. president, former Reagan diplomat Alan Keyes has announced he's again seeking the White House in the 2008 election, and he'll take part in Monday night's Republican presidential debate here.

Keyes told syndicated radio host Janet Parshall he's "unmoved" by the lack of moral courage shown by the other candidates, among whom he sees no standout who articulates the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people."

He added, "The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard ... of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life" – and he decried the lack of "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration" from the current crop of presidential contenders.

As a result, Keyes said, "We're putting together an effort that's not going to be like anything before, because it's going to be entirely based on citizen action. We're going to be challenging people to take a pledge for America's revival," and elevate them from spectators in the political arena to participants.

Keyes has as much chance of winning as Donald Trump marrying Rosie O’Donnell.

Alan Keyes

Keyes was beat out by a Democrat called Obama
Yeah, Keyes proved he can't beat the guy who can't beat Hillary.
Looks like a sure winner to me...

At least Alan means well.

His talents are best used elsewhere.

“he is eloquent.”
One man’s eloquent (yours) is another man’s bombastic windbag. (mine)

I’m with you, Dundee. I had to have it explained to me who Alan Keyes is, and I’m in America. Still, he sounds like a good alternative to the other Republican candidates.

As for the Democratic candidates, I’d rather have some nice animal, like “Donkey” from “Shrek” as President. At least he wouldn’t be working for Moscow, Beijing and Iran.

Maybe he is running for VP on the Thompson ticket.
Thompson/Keyes vs. Clinton/Obama... think about it.

I’ve often wondered why intelligent people, that must know that they haven’t got a snow-balls chance in hell of winning, would run for President? Must be an ego trip. Maybe he saves the “Keyes for President” buttons and bumper stickers.

Keyes looks to rescue GOP

Like he did when he carpetbagged into Illinois to challenge Obama for the Senate?

That worked out real well.

Whatever the reason one thing is definite. The GOP needs another candidate. ;O)

He’s the guy that brought us the disease known as barack hussein osama obama... he lost to osama in a landslide. Brilliant Constitutionalist... but he makes newt look down right homey and hospitable. He says what he thinks without regard to etiquette or decorum. He was arrested once trying to force his way into a Republican debate. I think it is about time to cull the group by setting some reasonable standard... like polling 10%.

Well, I really love Alan... but he just can’t be serious.

I agree. I love Keyes' speeches and interveiws. Unfortunately, his decision to run in Illinois, when he is not a resident, let me down.

I am beginning to suspect Keyes is a bit of an attention whore.

You don’t have to be a winner to run for President , you only have to be a “winner” to win the Presidency.

Did I hear once that Alan Keyes is a Freeper? I liked him enough to vote for him in the 2000 presidential primary, and still like him now, but with similar conservatives already in the race (Huckabee, Hunter, Thompson), I don’t see him going anywhere.

If you really want a conservative, Keyes is your man. I would vote for him over any of the candidates that are now running.

While I do not give Dr. Keyes much of a shot, I will say, “Cut and run is not worthy to shine Dr. Keyes shoes.”

Taking a trip down memory lane...remembering the old saying...fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me...

1. Alan Keyes attained a record loss in his 2004 U.S. Senate run against Barak Obama...achieving an abysmal 27% of the Illinois vote, while Obama attained 70%.

2. Debt, tax questions surface for Keyes

3. Lest we forget reparations...

Keyes proposed that for a generation or two, African-Americans of slave heritage should be exempted from federal taxes--federal because slavery "was an egregious failure on the part of the federal establishment..."

The former ambassador said his plan would give African-Americans "a competitive edge in the labor market," because those exempted would be cheaper to hire than federal tax-paying employees and would "compensate for all those years when your labor was being exploited."

Under Keyes' plan, African-Americans would still have to pay the Social Security tax, because "it's not a tax in the strict sense," said Keyes, calling it instead a payment to support a social insurance program. Chicago Tribune

4. The mysterious missing Minuteman money and the Alan Keyes' web of deceit.
